For more than nine years the SOFEI Group has provided the neediest patients of our dialysis clinic with food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmastime. We have been truly blessed by this partnership. Those patients without family and without adequate financial resources, typically feel abandoned and isolated at holiday time. When they learn that they have been selected to receive a holiday food basket, their faces light up. At times, the receipt of a basket enables one of our needy patients to invite a grandchild or a friend to join them for holiday dinner. Instead of being a recipient, the patient actually becomes a giver and has a renewed sense of purpose and dignity to their life. Projects such as these make the SOFEI Group a tremendous asset to the community. Not only are they a force for empowerment of economically disadvantaged women, they give a great deal back to the community. We are truly grateful to them.
The services provided by the SOFEI Group are those needed most in low-income communities throughout Maryland. Mrs. Avens through her own life experiences knows first hand the impact economic instability can have on one's life. She also knows the pathway from economic instability to economic stablity. Thus, the SOFEI Group empowers people through the many services provided to began the journey to a more stable life. The Group is a great encouragement to many and have personally enriched my life over the years.
I had a chance to meet and greet women that had been homeless and now they have gone to school, college and have gotten a job are in the working world raising children and taking care of their love ones. One young lady was homeless on public assistance went to college got a job now she have her own day care business and helping other women.
Another young lady was the first in her family to get off of public assistance and graduate from high school get a job and raise her children and taking care of an ill mother.
Just listing to these women encouging other women to move on in their lives getting education, getting jobs and helping some other women to move on. We need more funding to help aid these women and children to live more productive life in society.
The SOFEI Group is a great organization! I have attended several events hosted by this group. The SOFEI Group not only provides devolpmental skills for the work place, but they also provide skills in obtaining self confidence as well as self motovation. This group provides a different view to attack obstacles in life for single parents. The SOFEI Group gives encouragement for security and stabilbilty within the home starting with self, self-improvement. Basically the SOFEI Group sets out to enrich the lives of others and that's exactly what they do! I am truely thankful to Mrs. Avens for reaching out to strengthen our communities by empowering the lives of the people!
This organization has a positive and infectious effect on anyone seeking to develop a working skill set. This is the best mentoring, educational, confidence building and spiritually loving organization to be involved in. I've known this organization for many years and the inspired young people who come through this organization have definitely had an opportunity to excel. Keep up the good work!
I consistently donate to this organization because I believe in what's being done to build our self esteem, careers, families and communities. When this organization touch you individually it creates a rippled effect that will continue on thru your family, job and community. It will and can definately get you where you want to be in life with a positive outlook on any situation.
