Mission: Stuart''s is a regional leader in the arts community, a center for public expression and an economic development partner for Southeast Ohio.
Results: For the past twelve years, Stuart’s has been a community center for the arts. Last year alone, Stuart’s hosted over 75 events where 23,000 people came through our doors to many events including musical performances, theatre, film festivals, educational events and private rentals. This includes 3,850 students that participated in our Children’s Educational Program. We continue to be profoundly intertwined with underserved population of Nelsonville and surrounding communities through participation and preservation of the arts.
Target demographics: The characteristics of this Appalachian region are displayed as an economically depressed area with high unemployment, a lack of education and a high poverty level. According to the last Census, Nelsonville’s population has a poverty rate of 68%. Stuart’s Opera House’s continuing effort to provide exposure to the arts to the school aged children is based on the local school districts inability to provide such programming.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 19,000 adults and over 3,800 students attended all of the events at Stuart's
Programs: Stuart's self-produces over 40 events each year hosting international, national and local musicians. Our children?s educational program brings traveling theater companies into our theater and into the local schools. Over 30 additional events occur at Stuart?s as rentals. Over 20,000 people come through our doors each year.
