Irving Cares is a non-profit that provides local residents with the necessary tools to become self-sufficient, productive community members. It's been a pleasure and a joy to work alongside good-hearted individuals who understand the value of supporting those in need. It is extremely rewarding to interact with clients who are more than eager to access the resources to improve their circumstance and then give back to the organization to assist others that are in need. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to volunteer at Irving Cares and learn more about how this organization supports the community.
Irving cares and my family go way back. As a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, our troops joined in canned food drives and adopted families through Irving Cares’ Christmas program. The scouts gained an appreciation for those who don’t have as much as they did. Fast forward to 2009, I began as a food pantry volunteer and since 2018, I’ve served on the board. The scope of what we do at Irving Cares has grown- we don’t just provide food but also financial assistance and employment opportunities for our clients. We are the primary social services agency for residents of Irving.

Starting with my Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops in the mid '90s until today, I'm a longtime supporter of Irving Cares. Back in the day, our troops "adopted" families for the holidays through Irving Cares who worked with the school district to identify families in need. The parents came up with a list of gifts - both needs and wants - and the troops delivered them. The impact this made on our elementary school scouts, particularly my own kids, left an everlasting memory. In the years since I have worked with Irving Cares as a volunteer in the food pantry, assisted in case management and become a board member. Irving Cares is the go-to agency for Irving residents looking for a hand up, not just a handout.
Irving Cares supports the community in so many ways, through the food bank, through critical education and job training, and through rent and utilities support at a time when families need it most. They genuinely want people to have a hand up, not a hand out, and aim to help those in short-term need while also helping to set them up for the long-term.
As a board member, I've witnessed firsthand the incredible impact Irving Cares has on our community. They provide vital assistance to Irving residents facing financial hardship, offering everything from food pantries to job training programs. It's truly inspiring to see their dedication to empowering people and fostering self-sufficiency. That's why I joined – because their mission to help our neighbors in need is one I wholeheartedly believe in. If you're looking for a way to make a difference, consider volunteering or donating to Irving Cares. You won't regret it!
As a new executive to the Irving area about 5 years ago, I wanted to get involved in my new community. Specifically, I asked for social services organizations that focus on children, families, and elderly neighbors in need. Almost everyone recommended that I look into Irving Cares. I quickly learned that they were right. Irving Cares has been passionately serving our neighbors since it's founding and has made a tremendous impact. I'm honored to be a member of the board.
I have witnessed Irving Cares support the community, provide food, utility and rent assistance as well as financial coaching to the citizens of Irving for over 20 years.
The org has a fantastic staff and CEO who are genuinely interested in helping those in need and equipping clients so that one day they will NOT need Irving Cares.

My work group volunteered with Irving Cares and had a great experience. We worked in their food pantry re-stocking and setting up pre-filled food bags for family pick up. This service is incredibly valuable to the community to ensure families in financial crisis don't go without basic needs (such as food). We look forward to returning.
Irving Cares was very welcoming and eager for our company to spend the afternoon helping. Everyone that greeted us seemed very grateful for our time. My employer encourages volunteer work in our community. And my team picked Irving Cares. I had never been there. I had no idea what they did. But by the time I left that day, I was so impressed with the work that they do for the residents of Irving TX. It is amazing. My only regret is that I did not know about this organization prior to our assignment. The people working there truly have a heart for helping people. And I hope that we have the opportunity to serve them again. What they do there is so needed and so appreciated.
I was given the run around being self employed. Case manager was assigned to someone else in the middle of case. Communication was off and barley responsive.Applied in February and denied in July. Gave every personal information for being self employed and was denied saying I made too much. Small business has up and downs too.
Can’t go to deep in to detail but the love and compassion these ppl have for the work they do they literally do it for US it’s definitely not about the money they earn from doing there job it’s about the help they give and the smiles they see by helping.
I have been associated with this organization for over 15 years. It truly impacts people’s lives... I love their new Invest in yourself program

It is easy to get behind a charity that has such visible effects on the local community large and small. Every person that comes to their doors is given a shoulder to lean on and an ear to hear their request. From the one-time requests for food assistance to long-term training and housing assistance, families in Irving aren't just given a temporary patch for a problem, they are given tools and skills to help. This method of not just tending to a problem but setting recipients up for future success on their own is what speaks to the heart of this group. I am happily helping again, volunteering about 10 years now. It's also the best place for volunteers.

Irving Cares is both a great volunteer opportunity and community services organization. I feel privileged to have given 4-6 hours per week for six years at this well-run food pantry and social services provider in my city. There are so many volunteers who have worked longer and harder than I, and their dedication is contagious! I have met so many caring people, and I plan to stay at IC as long as I can.
The staff is extremely dedicated to the clients - our neighbors - and show appreciation for me each time I am there. I am totally impressed by the Case Managers who lovingly assist an average of 45-65 clients per day, five days a week, exhibiting patience and professionalism. They refer clients to other organizations in our area for special or additional help. The job-help program and weekly employment seminar is important to our people and managed beautifully. Our CEO and her small administrative staff are friendly, dedicated, and adept at keeping all the parts of the machine functioning expertly. Thank you all for the huge job you do so well and for including me. ~~ S. Gans, Irving resident.

It has truly been my privilege to be involved at Irving Cares for the past 3 years. The work this long term organization does is incredibly valuable to Irving residents and makes an impact on our community as a whole. What started as a response to tornadoes in Irving and West Dallas in 1957 to our current work providing: food pantry, rent assistance, utility assistance, job training and retraining, educational opportunities, case work management, and the best new program providing financial and holistic training for members of our community in need. I highly recommend Irving Cares.

Irving Cares has been an amazing organization to volunteer with! Participants of Irving really do appreciate the help up from their programs. In fact, I was at Tom Thumb last night and was confirming my Tom Thumb card was giving back to the Irving Cares through their Good Neighbor Program and the customer service staff member helping me was a previous participant in their programs. The programs helped her get back on her feet and helped her get a full time position that could pay all the bills. Thanks you Irving Cares for all your great work in the community!
My company has been a long-time partner of this organization and encouraged me to get involved in various ways; food drives, fundraising, virtual drives and assisting with training on any professional skills that are related to their services. I love that I can help with time as well as donations. I will continue to be an advocate for this charity when I learn someone is need and lives in Irving.

Irving Cares offers a valuable service to the citizens of Irving who need a little help. I'm very proud to be associated with this wonderful organization.
The Irving Cares team provides such an awesome service to our community. I've donated, attended the Great Harvest and volunteered many times and I always come away with thinking "wow, these people do great things here." The best thing I feel is what their slogan says - "Hand up, not a hand out". Irving Cares not only gives their clients help with immediate needs but also tools to help provide for a better future. Additionally when there is a crisis such as a hurricane, they rally and act as a funnel for a lot of the relief efforts in the community. I'm proud to continue to support Irving Cares and the great work they do for our people.
I am the administrative assistant at one of the middle schools here in Irving. I had a parent come into my office last week seeking any and all assistance for her children and herself. I called Julia Black at Irving Cares and Julia not only had groceries and diapers pulled and ready for pick up, she had information gathered for me to give to the mom and had me give the mom her name to offer any additional counsel she could. I am humbled by the generosity of my fellow Irvingites and people like Julia who give of themselves daily. Thank you Irving Cares - you do!
I first became involved at Irving Cares as a volunteer in the food pantry. It felt so great to help people in my home town. As I became more familiar with the agency, I learned that Irving Cares is more than a food pantry. They offer help with rent, utilities, employment and other services. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and caring. They provide services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect know that it's hard to ask for help.
Irving Cares stays very active in the local community. All members are committed to making a difference and care about their work. This non-profit is unique in that they successfully create relationships with businesses and, besides fulfilling their mission, bring the community together.
Healthcare Associates has worked with Irving Care now for 5 years. We host a casino night every year and they are the best to work with. They are so helpful with helping me put this on. They are always there and willing to do whatever is needed to make this night the best night possible and to make it raise the most money for their organization. They always go above and beyond to make things happen. I really appreciate all they do for our community. Glad we connected with them and will always be willing to help Irving Cares.
I have now worked at Irving Cares for 10 plus years. I use the term work rather than just volunteer as it a pleasure to work and to serve those families who need a hand up. It really is like work because I enjoy it and despite not being paid for it, it gives me as much satisfaction as work used to.
Irving Cares provides great service to the community whether it is providing emergency food assistance, employment search guidance, or referral services. I walk out the door after volunteering feeling uplifted, that somehow we are able to help each other. I'm honored to be a part of this organization.
To the Staff and Volunteers at Irving Cares:
Moved. Touched. Inspired! Those are the feelings I came away with after a morning spent at Irving Cares this week. I am so amazed by not only the many and varied resources available here, but also by the active participation of your community, businesses and individuals alike, working together to bring a ray of light and hope into the lives of your Irving neighbors who might find themselves in need of a helping hand.
After a quick tour of the facility, I had the privilege of seeing the impressive food bank in action, attending one of the Wednesday Job Search workshops, and sitting in on a case interview. I met some of the wonderful, dedicated people of Irving Cares who make this non profit organization such a growing success, and whose spirit of genuine care, concern, and respect, is positively uplifting.
Irving Cares, thank you for sharing your morning -- and your vision with me. Keep up the good work!

I have been a volunteer for only a few years but it is very fulfilling. They are very caring and work hard to supply for the needs of our clients.
I have been a volunteer in the food pantry since 2008. It was a great organization at that time, and I was honored to be a part of it. Since then, it's gotten even better. Under Teddy Story's careful and thoughtful management, and Kyle Taylor's ability to squeeze water from a stone, (i.e. wrangle and organize many more retail contributors, line up more volunteer groups), it has gained greater efficiency and served hundreds more each year since I started. The staff and office volunteers are hard working and dedicated. Irving Cares IS a Great Nonprofit!
Having worked for several years at Irving Cares I am so happy with the support given to families by filling baskets of food with both fresh and canned meat and fresh and canned vegetables. We also brighten the faces of many children with desserts such as brightly decorated cupcakes and other desserts. Fresh bread and dairy products round out the nutritional food we give. Irving Texas is the community that makes this all possible with volunteers that both live and work in the city. Great Harvest is the yearly fundraiser that helps fund the non-profit with many Irvingites giving generously to make it happen.Teddie Story and her staff make all of this possible with their leadership. Great place to volunteer!
It has been a pleasure to be a volunteer at Irving Cares for the past 10 years. The staff is
kind and compassionate and treats clients with dignity and respect. I volunteer in the
food pantry and it is deeply satisfying to make sure that those who come will leave
with bags of nutritious food for their families. Several years ago I filled an order for a
homeless man who had immigrated to the United States. He didn't have any place to
cook so the request was for "picnic items" only. I did my best to find canned meats,
fruits and vegetables with flip tops but was dismayed that there was so much more
I wished I could give him. When I handed him the sacks, he looked inside and then up
at me. He said, "This is beautiful food. Today I will eat beautiful food. Thank you." It is
a blessing to meet the people who come to Irving Cares for assistance and a joy to serve them.
I have been a volunteer since 2011. It is very rewarding to serve the people and to work with the great staff. Irving Cares is meeting the needs of families in Irving and helping them in many ways to move forward. I am proud to be a part of this great organization!
It has been my pleasure to volunteer at Irving Cares for almost three years. I am a case manager and also do intake a few days a week. It is rewarding to be part of this nonprofit which provides the basic needs to so many in the community. It is a very supportive environment with an extremely dedicated staff. All good!!
I have been contributing to Irving Cares for over 15 years because I believe in their mission of helping people in our community and have been impressed with how they carry it out. I started volunteering as an Intake Greeter about 8 years ago and feel that I'm helping to give back to our community. Our clients seem to sincerely appreciate the help we offer which shows them others care and gives them a reason to be thankful and continue their efforts towards improving their lives.
I spent 4 years as a volunteer at Irving Cares. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. In my role as Case Manager, I was able to interact face to face with our clients. It was enlightening and heartbreaking; courage and strength became a two way street; shared laughter and tears were a common occurrence; mutual respect was given and received. And yes, we also have a great food pantry which often includes fresh fruit and vegetables, a job bank and many resources to help clients get back on their feet. Often, encouragement, a warm smile and a kind word helped ease us to the next step. Thank you Irving Cares for the great work you do.
I have served on the board of Irving Cares for more than 10 years. The agency has an amazing staff that truly cares for its clients, the residents of Irving, TX. Everyone is treated fairly and with dignity. As a board member I can attest to the fact that every dollar donated is handled fiscally conservatively and responsibly. This enables the agency to help more people with continuously decreasing amounts of donations and funding.

I have been honored to serve on the board of Irving Cares for 9 years. The CEO, Teddie Story, and the small yet effective staff at IRving Cares are doing yeoman's work serving the community. The organization is run professionally and efficiently, but the clients always receive a dignified and personal touch relative to their specific and unique needs from the staff and volunteers. Irving Cares truly makes a positive impact to the residents of Irving, TX who need a lifeline or some temporary assistance.
Irving Cares employees and volunteers go above and beyond for their community. I have served on the board of this agency for 4 years. Each year I see how Irving Cares continues to improve by consistently helping clients, being fiscally responsible, and maintaining a solid reputation for the City of Irving and the people they serve. This organization is well respected and plays a vital role in the lives of Irving's citizens. How the client feels when they leave Irving Cares is 100 times different from when they first walked in - that's what a hand up does for someone who needs it.
Sorry to see so many excellent reviews when I had such a lousy experience with this place. I was in the Irving hospital, missed a few weeks of work at my Irving-based job, and needed help paying bills for the Irving house that I rent. Just for one month. It didn't matter that I've lived in Irving all my life (over 50 years). It didn't matter than my family has been here since the 1940s. They refused to help me because I don't have a lease.
Helping Irving residents in need? I don't think so. I won't ask them for help again and I certainly won't be recommending them to anyone else.
Without this group, Irving would have a giant hole in our care to people fallen on hard times. They are a great group of people sponsored by most everyone in Irving.
I have been volunteering at Irving Cares for only a short time but it has been a very rewarding experience. I have been amazed at the work that is put into ensuring that the pantry is stocked with all the appropriate food groups.....nothing is left to chance! Irving Cares does great work to assist our neighbors in need! I am proud to be a part of it.
I have been volunteering at Irving Cares for 6 years. I find it very rewarding to serve the people of Irving that need a hand up.
I work at Irving Cares weekly in the Food Pantry and enjoying seeing all the people both with and without families, and those that have homes and are homeless receive the help they need to get them through at a low point in their life.
Several people have actually shed tears when we have given them food so thankful to have something in their stomach. I am thankful through Irving Cares people can get help in desperate times.

When we wanted to find a way to assist in our community, we could not have done better than to volunteer at Irving Cares. This organization does remarkable and lasting work in Irving, and it does so with remarkable care and attention to every dollar. We know how fortunate we are to be able to serve with this outstanding group and, through them, see good things happen in the city where we live.

There is a genuine commitment to helping those in need and also directing them to other resources available in the community. It has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
I am a fairly new volunteer having only been with Irving Cares a little over a year. The reason I picked this Non Profit, is because it is not intended as a way of life, but a helping hand thru a little bump in life's roads.
I volunteer at the Irving Cares Food Pantry and have for several years. I just LOVE doing it. I can clearly see the need in the people who come there. And love to see the joy when they receive their food. Especially enjoy seeing joy on the little children's faces. I know that I am doing something good and sometimes feel like I get more out of it than the clients. Will be doing this for a LONG time, I pray.
I have been volunteering in the food pantry for about a year and a half. I love it!!! It is so rewarding to be a part of providing a temporary help to someone in need. They always say thank you and I feel I should thank them for giving me the pleasure of doing something for them. They are very proud people and there but for the grace of God, I could be in their shoes. I try to always be pleasant with them. I love my job at Irving Cares, and although I'm a "newby" I hope I can do this for many years to come.
I live in Irving. I am thankful that an organization like Irving Cares exists to help the least of us in my community. Losing a job or having an emergency that destroys your finances can happen to anyone. Those situations are humbling. But, at Irving Cares, they help people without heaping shame on them. In emergency situations, you just need a little help to get back on your feet. That's why I like Irving Cares.
Irving Cares is a fantastic organization. As a single person of my age,I really felt uneasy about having to ask for any type of assistance for getting groceries. However, the staff was very friendly and treated me with respect.I am between jobs and simply did not have any groceries left and I was able to get enough food to last at least a week or two untill I start getting a regular paycheck. All the items I received were fresh and some were a better quality than what I buy when I am working.I appreciate and am thankful to all who volunteer, work, donate, or in whatever capacity they help. I am very pleased with my experince at Irving Cares.
I began volunteering at Irving Cares when the arrival of Katrina survivors overwhelmed the ability of this agency to meet their emergency needs. But I have continued to volunteer there each week in the food pantry because of the truly dedicated staff and volunteers. Their commitment to improving the quality of life for Irving residents is outstanding. Each time I work, I am reminded that the opportunity to put good, nutritious food on the table is a blessing that many of us take for granted. I also want to recognize our vendor partners and individuals who donate excess food so that it can be redistributed to our neighbors in need.
Irving Cares provides emergency assistance to citizens of Irving, Texas who are experiencing a financial crisis in their lives. The Irving Cares food pantry has supplied 5 days worth of food for over 900 families within the past month, alone. Other services provided include vouchers for gasoline, payment of utility bills, job search assistance, and transportation to health care providers. The staff and volunteers of Irving Cares are committed to assisting our neighbors with care, compassion, and respect no matter what their circumstances. It is truly a joy to volunteer at Irving Cares each week.
Irving Cares meets basic human needs with compassion, customer service and experience. Its long-tenured staff is rare compared to "revolving doors" @ most agencies. I applaud board and staff for making specific pantry/funding asks, diversifying revenue sources & board composition. Service delivery with a temporary crisis focus gets clients on track. I routinely refer clients, prospective employees or volunteers, corporate citizens and community leaders knowing they will enjoy the association. As a governance consultant, it's marvelous when 501c3s take process improvement and marketing goals seriously. I'm blessed to see this former client improve in key arenas since 2011 goal-setting.
Irving Cares goal of "a hand up, not a hand out" says it all to me. They make amazing things happen with the thinnest of resources, and the biggest of hearts and heads from a very small staff and an expanding group of volunteers. Every dollar matters, every jar of peanut butter given matters, and they make sure of it. They are changing lives every single day in ways that restore dignity and trust and faith, and they bring about healing and hope because of it. The number of people living below the poverty level (or barely at it) isn't shrinking in our community. That weighs heavily on the hearts of the staff and volunteers that are Irving Cares every single day.

I have been a volunteer for about 5 years. I do data entry of volunteer time. I have assumed the responsibility that it is "my job" to enter the volunteer time each month for monthly reporting. This has added to my satisfaction of volunteering. It has also given me the opportunity to use some of my technical skills which help to complete the monthly task.

I have been on the board for Irving Cares for over 10 years. Teddie Story (CEO) and her staff do such a great job. Even though Teddie has a limited staff, she has lots of volunteers and together they are able to help so many Irving residents. There is so much need in Irving and Irving Cares is able to help those in need with rental and utility assistance, a food pantry and employment assistance. All of the clients at Irving Cares are treated with dignity and respect. And many of Irving Cares' volunteers and employees have been there for many years - another testament to Teddie's great leadership. Irving would not be the same without Teddie and Irving Cares.
