Exceptional group! They have always been helpful to me whenever I've had a rescue Keeshond in my home that needed extra special care. This group is also extremely supportive of the Keeshond breed in general.
KSRF helps lots of purebred rescued Keeshonden, just like me! My name is Birdie and I was recently rescued by a nice man who gave me food, a bath, and a warm place to stay. He took me on a long journey to meet my foster mom. Sometimes she calls me Birdzilla because I am small but mighty! Foster mom knows that KSRF helps with medical costs incurred by independent rescuers and rescue groups. Thank you to my rescuer, foster mom, and KSRF! Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation is the best!
I have been rescuing Keeshond since 2002, KSRF has always been able to step in and assist financially when I have needed help with a rescue. Their rules and restrictions are clearly outlined on their website and the form for submitting an expense is easy to use. These are just a few of the Keeshond I've been able to help with assistance from KSRF.

I have been rescuing Keeshond since 2002. KSRF has always been there for financial assistance. Thanks to them, I have been able to help dozens of Keeshond in need.
These caring individuals that I have been honored to know deserve to be recognized consistently. The love they have for the Keeshond breed is beyond words. Bless them always for their unconditional love and loyalty.
One of a number of Kees fosters with heartworms, Roger has been treated, adopted, and is doing absolutely fantastic! This treatment is expensive and would be difficult without the support of KSRF!
I love your mission, To provide financial assistance for the veterinary expenses of rescued Keeshonden in foster care through out the United States. My family has rescued keeshonden for the past 20 years. And I love this sweet, gentle breed and the KSRF mission so much that I have donated to KSRF. I even donated this custom, handcrafted wreath to the upcoming KSRF fundraising auction.
Meet Keeshi - an 8 year old female Keeshond, surrendered by her owners of two years in Maine to the American Northeast Keeshond Rescue in NY.
Keeshi has a pretty unique rescue story and she is blessed to have her new adoptive owners in. Boston, MA suburb. Imagine a kid, asking her parents if she can have a dog. Not just any dog, a Keeshond. The parents, knowing the child was very responsible, honest, hard working and that she loves animals, all animals, agreed to let her get a puppy. One condition, she could get the puppy when she could afford to buy it. The child started saving every penny she received. Money for birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, allowance and from doing odd jobs. She kept a tally of her savings, and started making lists of potential names. When that girl was 12 years old, she finally had enough money to buy a Keeshond puppy, from a breeder. Her very proud parents were honored to help her get that Keeshond puppy.
The young girl's dream came true at the age of 12. She bought a female Keeshond puppy she named Keeshi. She loved Keeshi more than anything. She was the primary caretaker of her puppy. She fed her, walked her, trained her and socialized her. The young girl and Keeshi were inseparable. Well, life went on and six years later, time came for the now young lady to go away to college. She was accepted to her first choice college which was a good distance from her family's home. She was devastated when she learned she couldn't take her now six years old Keeshond Keeshi to college with her. There was nobody in the family capable of taking care of the dog in the girl's absence. Devastated, but being responsible, she contacted the breeder and surrendered the now six year old Keeshond back to the breeder as she was contractually bound to do.
The breeder enlisted the help of a local rescue who found the perfect family for Keeshi. They were an upper middle aged, couple, who were both dedicated professionals from about six hundred miles away. The excited new family drove part way cross country and met Keeshi. Keeshi loved the new family and their current dog, and they all loved her. Keeshi was adopted and brought to the east coast with her new family, where she lived happily ever after. Happily ever after until the couple who by all medical professionals advice was statistically beyond child bearing years became pregnant. By all accounts, everyone, including the couple believed the pregnancy would not go full term, but because they had tried for so many years, they kept the faith and tried. The pregnancy went full term and the couple who never thought they be blessed with a child, bore a happy, healthy, full term baby boy.
Over the next two years, the child occupied a lot of the parents time, as children do, along with their careers... Over those two years, it became obvious Keeshi wasn't getting the attention she wanted or needed. The couple tried and tried and Keeshi was just not happy. The couple made the difficult decision to find Keeshi a family who could give her everything she wanted and needed. They reached out to the American Northeast Keeshond Rescue rescue. After meeting the family and evaluating Keeshi, it was determined, the rescue group had a perfect foster home. That approved family had adopted a senior Kees from the same rescue a few years earlier and the senior Kees had crossed The Rainbow Bridge about six months before Keeshi came into rescue. The family had contacted rescue a few months earlier and let rescue know they were finally ready to add another Keeshond in need to their family, if one in need came along. A greater force at work here? Maybe! Or it might just be coincidence if you believe in such a thing.
Rescue transported Keeshi to the family's residence to do a meet and greet with them, their current 8 year old dog and their two beautiful cats. The meeting went perfectly and the two dogs and cats all got along beautifully, as if they were lifelong pals!
Meet 8 year old Keeshi, now living happily ever after outside of Boston, MA. Thank you KSRF for being there if Keeshi needed any veterinary care.
If not for the vital financial assistance KSRF provides for some veterinary needs of rescued Kees in foster care, my rescue efforts would surely be hampered. When a Kees in need is identified, in an effort to pre-plan, I try to evaluate the Kees' needs, to know how best to proceed. We can never predict everything, so it's nice to know KSRF is there to assist with funding for some of the veterinary needs if needed. Whether I apply for funding assistance or not, it is essential to know KSRF is there if needed. I'm honored to be so deeply involved with Keeshond rescue in the northeastern part of the U.S. and KSRF makes it possible.
I was able to rescue this troubled young Keeshond girl from western Pennsylvania in early 2021. She was in need of minor vet care, a spay and somewhat extensive behavioral rehabilitation. Her name is GypZ and she is now a permanent member of my pack. Her behavioral training is a continual work in progress and she is now doing much better with meeting new people and new dogs in controlled settings and with supervision. Baby steps forward are leaps and bounds for some of the most challenged animals in need. Thankfully, she is responsive to positive reinforcement, interested in learning and is learning from her Keeshond brothers (Barkley & Cooper) every day. She has progressed significantly yet still has a ways to go.
Thank you to KSRF and to all who support KSRF whether financially or with donations of items for the fundraising auctions, or by volunteering their time to make it all possible.
My brother, sister and I are all ALIVE and HAPPY because of KSRF. I exaggerate ALOT, but they legit saved our lives. My bro Buddy Guy was dumped in a shelter because of his severe epilepsy. KSRF helped his Keeshond rescue organization with his diagnosis so that he could get medically stable and find his forever home. My original people wanted to euthanize me because they didn't want to pay for my amputation surgery after THEY caused my accident. Once again, KSRF to the rescue to help defray the costs of my surgery. When my sister Winnie was withering in a shelter in South Carolina due to untreated diabetes, KSRF helped connect her with a Keeshond rescue that could whisk her to safety. As far as my family is concerned KSRF are superheroes!
The Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation is a wonderful organization. They paid for the vet bills for a rescued Keeshond named Bella which enabled her to heal and to be adopted (by me!) and live a long, happy life. When Bella was found as a stray by her rescuer, her leg was broken and sadly needed to be amputated. Bella's vet bills were large and thanks to the generosity and caring of the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Organization her health needs were taken care of and Bella was given a second chance at life. I will be forever grateful for their kindness and generosity.
The Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation helps Keeshond rescue groups like ours (Turbo Kees Foundation) to pay for large &/or unusual Veterinary expenses primarily, though they help other Keeshond breed rescue groups & individuals all over the country with other expenses as well. The process to obtain funding is easy, and timely. I have always found the organization to be professional and easy to work with, and I highly recommend them!
This organization assisted in the care of my Berkie after she was rescued from a puppy mill auction in Springfield, Missouri. They paid to have her spade and took care of medical bills while she was being fostered. Berkie now is living in our loving home with her big brother Andy and two cats. She has a big backyard to play in and has made friends with not only the neighborhood dogs but also several of the neighborhood kids. No doubt she is living the life she only dreamt about living 5 years in a box. Thank you Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation!
In October 2019 I was involved in the rescue of 5 Keeshonden who are now in their forever homes. KSRF stepped up to help with the vet bills and we will be forever grateful. This month we will celebrate the One Year Freedom Party.
After losing our sweet Vi which was part Keeshond, we wanted to join a rescue group and help out with transporting and fostering. We were welcomed with open arms and finally given our first rescue to foster. Well let's just say we rescued and fostered and she never left. Thank you to this amazing group for all the opportunities we have as a family to share in such a great endeavor as to help these wonderful dogs!
I would not be able to foster without KSRF. The organization has supported my rescue and many others around the country for more than two decades

In the spring of 2000, I rescued a Keeshond who had been abandoned in a rural town 100 miles from me. I felt pretty good about my first rescue adventure, until the dog's first vet visit. He was diagnosed with heartworms. KSRF stepped up and helped; paid in full an expensive vet bill I would not have been able to cover myself. That has been the story ever since. KSRF has been there for me and other foster homes all over the country. I have lost count of the heartworm cases KSRF covered for me and fellow rescuers. I had a foster with mammary tumors in 2003. KSRF held a special auction fund raiser in 2005 to help my blind 4-year-old foster remove cataracts and get implants so he could see and have a normal life. All over the country, there are people who would not be able to foster and rescue if KSRF's help was not available. KSRF has helped countless dogs regain their health and go on to find the loving homes they so richly deserve. I will always remain a KSRF supporter.

KSRF helped us when we fostered a senior Keesie that came with health issues. We will be forever grateful for their financial assistance. Our lil man was only with us for 14 months until his congestive heart failure took him from us. I was hesitant to take on a senior dog but soon changed my mind, with all the love Bailey Timbit gave us and allowed us to give back to him. Still miss him daily. Thank you KSRF for being there for bringing hope and help for Keesies in need.
The Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation responded immediately when I emailed them about a Keeshond listed as endangered on the Rescue Me website. The dog was taken from the home and re-homed quickly. I really appreciated the rapid response time and the concern for the dog shown by the KSRF. .
Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation came through in a big way to pay the medical bills of the 5 mill dogs purchased by FAB 5 Keeshonden (Rescue) in late Oct 2019. They paid for much of the initial vet checkups along with the eventual spays and neuter while they were in foster care. I don't know that we would have been able to pay all these bills on our own. I support this group all that I can. They are a blessing to so so so many rescued Keeshonden. They provide financial help with medical care for Kees that come into rescue , and many times medical problems are why they were surrendered. But no matter the reason for them being rescued, or whether they end up with a rescue group or an individual to foster , KSRF is always there to help. ( Photo is of the 3 sisters rescued by FAB 5 that KSRF helped)
Meet Pippin - a 12+ year old, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania puppy mill rescue. Pippin was terribly matted, suffered from Tapeworm and Roundworm infestations, had terrible yeast infections in both ears, he is blind in one eye, totally deaf, has a frozen shoulder and elbow from an untreated and poorly healed prior injury. He weighed in at a mere 28 lbs upon rescue and he also has irritable bowel disease, for which he requires special prescription intestinal diet food only available from a vet.
Pippin is responding wonderfully to all the love, rehabilitation and care with his rescuer/foster family. He is a spunky, happy little man who will live out his time before being called to The Rainbow Bridge In happiness, and in as good of health as possible.
Thanks to assistance from the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation, which is only possible because of donors like you, Pippin is alive and well, happy, healthy and just about ready for his forever family.
Please consider making a donation to the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation so other rescued Kees in foster care who are in need can receive assistance.

Imagine being a 9 week old, male, Keeshond puppy who was bought from an Ohio puppy mill, then dumped at a high kill shelter a few weeks later, because of a birth defect. This birth defect made this him unable to urinate in a stream or in a sanitary manner. His condition was easily corrected with the help of a veterinary surgeon... So, what kind of person would bring this lil guy to be killed for this? Well, a heartless and clueless person that's who. I was told, his intake paperwork said, he should be put to sleep because he was "defective!"
This little guy was placed on the euthanasia list! :(
A worker from the shelter called Recycled Paws Rescue from NY, and they traveled to Ohio and yanked this pup from death row. Recycled Paws Rescue and their volunteers vowed to save this lil guy, like they have done for countless other unwanted, abused and/or neglected animals all over the country. Their vet enlisted the services of a urologist to perform the needed surgical procedure. Recycled Paws Rescue privately raised about $1,200 toward his veterinary bills totaling about $2,100. The remaining balance had rescuers worried about how they were going to pay it. The outstanding balance was generously covered by Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation (KSRF). It is their mission to offer vetinary expense financial assistance to Keeshonden in foster care/Rescue.
I'd like to thank KSRF for their kind and generous work and everyone else involved in saving Cooper and giving him a new leash on life! He's doing very well thanks to you!
I am a dog rescue volunteer who has witnessed firsthand the remarkable work performed by Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation (KSRF). Due to their generosity and compassion, my rescue group has been able to help a significant number of dogs in desperate need of veterinary care.
I will always be grateful for their assistance in helping rescue dogs get on the path to good health.
Always giving 100% for both dog and adopter . JJ (Jewel) came to me via KLU, and KSRF helped pay and get her ready for a home. A great group of dedicated people who do so much with so little.

Over the past 18 years, I have both supported and more importantly, received assistance from this wonderful organization allowing me the opportunity to foster and rescue needy Keeshonden who would otherwise not have been able to be rehabilitated and placed into permanent forever homes through a screened adoption process. KSRF is a highly ethical, honest and reputable organization that has been a Godsend to many Keeshonden in need and the rescue groups devoted to helping them.
Years ago as a rescuer, I would turn to KSRF for help with my foster Kees in need of medical help . Now, as a Board member, it's an honor to participate in the good work of providing medical care to rescued Kees, helping them on their journey to their "forever homes."
Zanna's Journey February 2017 Our Zanna was liberated from a puppy mill where she lived in a cage for the first five years of her life. She had to endure all kinds of weather those five years. When bad weather approaches she still shakes. We came across the Keeshond site where the Lucky 7 had been rescued from the Hell of Marjorie Kennels. Gregg Buddenhagen showed them being welcomed and loved at his house. One stood out , her name was Zanna. The connection was immediate. It was Love at First Sight. We began the process of submitting our application. All the time praying no one else would put in theirs for her. Many people made it possible for the Lucky 7 to get to their forever homes. Keeshond Sunshine Rescue funded the shelter and veterinary cost for them. Tri-State Keeshond Rescue made the long drive making it possible for them to get to their happy homes. On April 9, 2017 was a happy day for us because Zanna was finally with us forever. Her journey from living a horrible life in cage to a home where she will only know love and kisses that she deserves. And all the Tillimonk cheese she wants. That's her journey knowing only the best life we can give to this Sweet Sweet girl we lovingly call " Zanna-Do "

KSRF has been a huge help assisting with medical funding for the Kees I’ve fostered. If it wasn’t for their help, some of our fosters may not have been able to receive all the medical attention they needed as quickly as they did, which helped make the dogs whole and healthy for their fur-ever families.
This group is wonderful!! Our rescue took in a Keeshond and he needed a big surgery. We raised some of the money and the Sunshine fund paid off the rest of his surgery!! Cooper would never have had a very necessary surgery if they didn't step and help!! We appreciate everything they did. He got adopted by one of their board members and is a very happy healthy pup now!! Thank you for all you do!!❣️
They helped a Keeshond we rescued get a much needed surgery, so we could adopt him out to his new forever home. This group of people were absolutely amazing. You can really tell they care about the animals. Recommend them to anyone and everyone!
I am a veterinary professional who was called to assist in the euthanasia of an otherwise healthy senior Keeshond named Teddy who’s owner had passed away. The relative who contacted me to euthanize the unwanted Keeshond did not realize there were other options. I placed him in contact with a caring and wonderful independent keeshond rescue person from New York. Teddy was quickly picked up and transported three hours from Philadelphia to New York. He was placed with an experienced keeshond foster mom. The Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation helped defray Teddy’s necessary veterinary and grooming costs which allowed his foster mom to concentrate on his well-being and not on his veterinary bills. Teddy was given the chance to live out his life in comfort and with dignity. Before he crossed over the rainbow bridge to be with his deceased owner he was loved and cherished until his last breath. Thank you to the Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation and all their donors for helping rescued Keeshonden in foster care !
I've had personal experience with KSRF for close to 10 years. They have helped defray costs to our rescue group and our fostered Keeshonden since I've been involved in Keeshond rescue. If it weren't for KSRF, many of the dogs wouldn't have the chance at a fulfilled and healthy life they do today. There have been a few negative comments about KSRF, but I wonder if those people have actually had a dog helped by this foundation. I dare say they have not. They are part of another rescue organization who has been trying to discredit and besmirch the good reputation of KSRF. I say shame on them, and "karma" will truly get them in the end!

This was once an organization that I supported. I cannot in good faith donate, purchase calendars or bid on auction items again. They are secretive in financial matters and have lied about businesses and people involved in rescue. Very, very sad.
As an officer in a local keeshond rescue organization, we have turned to KSRF over the years when funding was low, needs were high, and a foster had an urgent need. KSRF has always been there and provided us with the monetary support needed to care for our fosters. We try to be independent and do our own fundraising, but sometimes it just isn't enough. It helps us to be able to take in that new foster with special needs when no one else can help them.
The funding criteria used by KSRF has always been published, known, and followed without exception. Even when others may not have agreed with their criteria, they knew what it was and that it would be properly followed.
As in all issues being discussed in social media today, there are extreme opinions on both sides of the issue. I hope the current dissention by a group of individuals currently in conflict over KSRF funding policies, do not irreparably harm everyone's ability to fundraise for this breed.

KSRF has been and still IS successfully aiding FOSTER parents of Keeshonden dogs all over the US from REPUTABLE rescue organizations. They have and will work hand and hand copacetically for the past 19+ years with these groups. BEWARE there are people and groups calling themselves "Rescue" or "experts" when in reality they may have been recipients of a rescue dog from a rescue org. That in itself doesn't mean they themselves KNOW or have DONE the actual rescuing. Many of the negative remarks here are from people who have a personal agenda for one group of Puppy Mill dogs. They have been secretive about where the numerous fundings are going and have tried on many occasions to by pass rules that have been set many years ago. The people I speak of are running an operation unethically, unprofessionally and irresponsibly. Just because they "helped" to drive a dog a few miles or are sitting on the bleachers cheering others on doesn't make them a rescuer. Many are just parroting opinions set forth by others without actual KNOWLEDGE of what they are speaking of, they may have contributed to one of the many auctions run by KSRF but they certainly have never supported them for all the years they've been doing their great work. Many of these people just learned about KSRF within the last 18 months and still have no clue about the work they've done for the Keeshonden community, many are ruining the good name of these organizations that have worked tirelessly to build successful relationships with trusted organizations and vets over the past 20+ years. ALL KSRF Financials are there for the public to see, no need to hide behind curtains. DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK. KSRF has and has always had a excellent record of integrity and support.
Thank you, thank you, thank you KSRF!!! My two sweet Keeshond babies were able to receive the medical care they needed (treatment for severe epilepsy and leg amputation due to a bad car accident) as soon as they came into rescue. This allowed them to eventually be placed in their forever homes - with me!
I too donated to the NY101 rescue and I am thankful that the funds are safe with KSRF - a reputable and registered 501c3 which is held accountable by federal and state laws.
The Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation (KSRF) is dedicated to providing financial assistance for
the medical expenses of rescued Keeshonden in foster care. KSRF's mission is to help rescuers around the country who take unwanted Keeshonden and give them a second chance at loving homes. KSRF relies on auctions, annual calendar sales and donations for their income. KSRF has been providing financial assistance to Keeshond rescue dogs in foster care for over 19 years. I have donated to KSRF auctions, purchased 70-80 calendars each year for fundraising plus many of our Keeshond rescue dogs have received funding request approval since the establishment of the 'Sunshine Fund'. KSRF is a great organization--they deserve support for their dedication to Keeshonden!
It saddens me to had put my faith and MY MONEYS toward this non-profit..I was more than happy to make said donation to go towards the Keeshonds in the NY puppy mill also known as the NY101. For the breed I love more than life,if my feet could have been on the ground when these dogs where pulled I would have. I could not so I asked what ever could I do to help,,,I bought Kennals and fed-ex them on new yrs eve as I recall. I wrote checks to go toward these Rescued KEES with the understanding it was to be used for these Dogs, under this NY KEES PUPPY MILL DOGS...
I was amazed at the THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dollars we as a group where able to call upon KEES lovers from across the world.....
Such a great cause,Such a Fantastic RESCUE.
However,it is now CLEARLY EVIDENT the aprox $30,000 dollars of charitable and tax deductible donations that where solicited on behalf of the NY KEES RESCUSE has never been deligated to actual cause where it stands now...
Why is there no transparency or no addressing this grieveice??
As a DONAR I believe I am justified to aggressively inquire as to why these donated funds have yet to be transferred toward the mission they where solicited for.
This is not a PETTY thing to most of us,,,OUR DOGS ARE NOT PETTY TO US...
I would certainly hope as I read the header to this page"GreatNonProfits" I could truly call this organization a great non-profit, sad to say I can not..
And will no longer make or ask my friends & family to make any donations toward this organization....If there was a negative star Id gladly give a -10
YOUR ONLY HURTING THE BREED YOU CLAIM TO CHAMPION....Nothing Sunshine about this.
SHAME SHAME.

KSRF has provided funding to all Keeshond rescuers throughout the USA for 19 years. The funds raised through auctions and calendar sales are used exclusively for the veterinary care of rescued keeshonden. With the help of KSRF funding, rescuers throughout the country have been able to rescue our beloved breed and provide the foster dogs with the veterinary care needed to get them healthy and into the safety of a loving adoptive home. I am a long time Keeshond rescuer and supporter of KSRF and will continue to be. KSRF recognizes the fiduciary responsibility it has to its donors to protect the fund from fraudulent funding requests. KSRF adheres to long established funding criteria to ensure the fund remains viable and able to continue its mission of helping Keeshond rescuers with veterinary expenses. Without KSRF's financial support, Keeshond rescue in many areas would cease due to rescuers ' financial constraints. If a 10 star rating were available, I would give KSRF all 10 stars.
Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation has been helping thousands of Keeshonden for the last 19 years. The recent drama is just that, drama from a select few who aren't happy unless they are complaining about something. It's a shame they are trying to damage the reputation of a wonderful foundation who is only there to help the dogs. Keep up the GREAT work KSRF!! Karla Zimbelman
I have both donated to and received funds from KSRF over the last ten years. This is the only organization that I am aware of which focuses solely on veterinarian expenses to support rescuers who foster Keeshonden. In all my dealings I have found the organization to be transparent, honest and to fulfill their stated objectives. As the owner of several Keeshonden, some from rescue groups, and an occasional foster person for rescue, I am very grateful for the work this organization does with integrity each day.
I have been helping to rescue Keeshonden for close to 20 years now and this is the first time I have seen such petty disregard for the dogs themselves so blatantly. KSRO has control of a fund that has been designated to help pay for expenses related to a group of rescued dogs referred to as "the 101". But, for reasons they are not divulging, they are refusing to pay legitimate bills submitted to them in the requested manner and in a timely fashion. I do not understand. Why are they not fulfilling their end of the agreement?
