We initially came to the BRC with latch issues, low supply, and nipple pain. We’d been supplementing with formula because I couldn’t meet the baby’s demand for milk. Thanks to the BRC, it’s been several weeks now since we’ve had to supplement! My supply has increased and we’re also feeding with a much better latch and less pain. On top of that, we’re also working with a OT therapist that the BRC recommended that has also been immensely helpful! The baby also continues to gain weight, and got a positive report on her progress at her 2 month checkup. I am so glad we found the BRC. They have made such a difference in our breastfeeding journey!
I cannot say enough great things about the BRC. My pediatrician recommended I visit after having issues with supply and feeding. After repeatedly trying to get help from other resources I felt that my concerns and issues were valid and someone finally listened to me. I was able to breastfeed through a supplemental nursing aid and having the bonding experience through nursing even though my supply wasn't the greatest. I cannot stress enough how much the center changed my life and made a difference in the early months of my child's life.
I walked into the brc when my baby girl was 3 weeks old - I was ready to give up... after a consultation to help with latch and weekly support groups I can proudly say that I have continued to breastfeed for over 6 months. This place is amazing and I would recommend anyone go to them for breastfeeding support/help/guidance!!
Where do I begin? My husband often says the BRC saved our family. When my daughter was 5 weeks old we stumbled into the BRC in tears seeking help for a number of issues we were having. We left feeling hopeful and supported. The BRC sent a letter to our doctor with the details of what was discussed. We spent at least 1.5 hours during a consultation going over every detail of our breastfeeding experience (a lactation consultant watched a feeding and everything)! The professionalism and compassion was amazing. Since then I have attended weekly support groups at the BRC. These groups are attended by Moms just like myself and also a lactation consultant. It is because of this group I have continued to breastfeed my now 7 month daughter. There were many weeks early on that this was the only place I went! I have made lifelong friendships at the BRC and am forever grateful for the support that has been shown to my family.
This center is an amazing resource for our community. The BRC provides lactation support for families, support groups for breastfeeding mothers, and a myriad of other helpful seminars or classes. I have met some of the most amazing women through the support group and have learned a tremendous amount through my experiences at the BRC.
My first experience was as a mother in crisis. We were short on notice and were still given an appointment with a wonderful lactation consultant, Janice. Through a one-on-one feeding session, we learned that I was having supply issues and that my son was not receiving enough to thrive. Janice set me up with a hospital grade pump, taught me how to use it, and the rules for the breast milk pumped. She followed up with me via phone and encouraged me to attend the support group hosted at the center.
The BRC has changed my life. I was scared and had read too much on all topics. The women, that I have met and worked with at the BRC, have taught me so much. Postpartum depression is a real concern for many women. I found a group of women through the BRC that have provided emotional support at the most unusual hours (as one might expect with a baby) and that support has given me confidence and those warm fuzzies that last. Knowing that I am not alone in my struggle with motherhood has made all the difference!
For the record, I can exclusively breastfeed now and at 5 days postpartum was forced to supplement for survival. The dedication of the women at the BRC has changed not only my life but many other women and their families. I had to fight for my ability to breastfeed and was fortunate enough that a center such as the BRC existed in my community. I only wish that more communities had such a wonderful resource!
This nonprofit is led by a team of dedicated women working to make breastfeeding education and help available to all mothers in our community. They offer practical help, support groups and education. They are also an amazing resource for health care practitioners that work with breastfeeding and new moms.
