Rural communities lead in the creation of a sustainable world for both people and nature. We believe that the preservation of biological diversity, ecosystems, and natural places is critically important to the survival of us all—people, plants, and animals alike. In addition to the intrinsic value of nature and wildlife, biological diversity and healthy ecosystems provide humankind with many of the things that sustain our lives, including clean air and water, fertile soil, a stable climate, food, medicines, materials and technologies, and a diversity of genes and species—not to mention recreational opportunities and natural beauty.

As the global environment continues to deteriorate, one questions with increasing urgency: What can we who live in relative affluence do to help slow and even reverse the devastation in the many remote environmentally sensitive and high priority biodiversity areas of the planet? What can we do that will have an immediate and lasting impact both on those threatened environments in the less well-off parts of the world and on the people living there? Is there any question? It’s EcoLogic Development Fund that answers that challenge!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have visited EcoLogic's project sites and partners in Guatemala and Honduras and these are indeed very impressive.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

put increased emphasis on telling Ecologic's stories and on finding higher level and more sustainable sources of funding.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The absolute best is to see with one's own eyes the work and hear the stories of Ecologic's partners in successfully combatting the loss of their forests and critical water sources. The shared work of Ecologic and its local partners is heart-warming

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated, fabulous! Couldn't ask for better.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

become a significant player in the area of payment for ecosystem services (for local community benefit)and play a larger role in modeling community level carbon sequestration as it has in the Pico Bonito area of Honduras.

Ways to make it better...

My experience would be better if we all generally understood the local and global consequences of living unsustainably here in the rich global north and how we might all participate in reducing the pressure on natural resources in the less developed world

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

communication of the message that EcoLogic's leveraging of local grass-roots partnerships can make a huge difference in environmental stewardship of the planet's biodiversity and threatend habitats.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Reversing the course of critically valuable biodiversity destruction on the earth is most significantly done in areas where poor and marginallized people live and have knowledge of their natural heritage; and OURS.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
