Detroit Phoenix Center works with young people in Detroit who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. DPC "provides critical resources, wraparound support, and a safe, nurturing environment to youth. We partner with young people to break the generational cycle of homelessness and poverty". They have a Youth Action Board that gives young people with lived experience a voice in local, state and national issues affecting homelessness. There is an absolutely amazing podcast by the young people. DPC provides basic needs and has a rapid rehousing program. They also have "YouthUp Mobile Unit—a new mobile outreach initiative designed to bring critical resources and compassionate support directly to youth across Detroit and beyond." They have an after school enrichment program, a life skills academy, internships and fellowships and a summer leadership academy (which is a paid opportunity). This is a youth led grass roots organization and they would love to have your support.

Crossroads is an incredible organization focused on clients. The staff, volunteers, and everyone involved work to ensure every client is treated with respect, love, and humanity. If you want to support an organization rooted in love and advocacy, this is your place!

This organization is poorly run and lacks transparency. Communication is always dicey: if you phone, someone might answer, or not.. If you email, you might get an answer, but most of the time you don't. Grantmaking is haphazard. Every interaction with this organization requires a combination of luck and a politically correct socioeconomic profile. Actual artistic considerations are secondary.

My grandchildren are part of this program; they get to do so many exciting things that others don't get to experience. I am blessed they are a part of this fantastic organization.

I love this group. The director of the nonprofit I volunteer at, Que Blackout, came from Mosiac. We saw a show and I can see where our instructors got all their talent from.

They work tirelessly to help the dog of Detroit! The new facility and implementation of group play for the dogs has made a tremendous difference in their socialization.

Rescue IMI Nature Now Inc is a wonderful non-profit organization that provides a sense of community in the city of Detroit. They have restored blighted areas within the city and turn them into beautiful landscapes. They encourage adjoining neighbors to take pride in their area. In addition to working with our city officials to provide safe learning environments were all are welcome. They have a special initiative working with the Youth of the city of Detroit to ensure that they have the skills needed to make them strong leaders of the future. This organization provides education on all things nature whether it is the bees the trees or the wildlife all are welcome to participate volunteer or donate. Rescue MI Nature <br>Now is one non-profit that I will always support.

This organization has been steadfast in its adherence to and creativity with its mission of providing education to women and children who have fallen through society’s “cracks.” Starting as an after-school tutoring program for girls in the 1990s, they developed into the broad program that exists now: tutoring for girls and women, high school and college prep support, GED preparation, scholarships, employment skills training, transportation and nutrition services, computer/online courses and support, and celebration. <br><br>There was a discussion of expanding their services to males, but after consulting with their students, MEP decided to continue their services exclusively to females. Their female students pleaded with staff and administration to exclude males for many reasons: females tend to “dumb down” in the presence of males in the classroom; males can become distractions from their purpose of study and support; some cultures forbid women to be in the same room with males; and freedom from sexual or bullying innuendos frequently experienced in mixed company. <br><br>MEP is small but strong and effective. It also provides a welcoming community into which students can grow in academics and social skills.

I am a partner with Brilliant Detroit. I have developed and also facilitated a STEM program for the various hubs. I am very committed to this organization because it recognizes the strengths of families and children within the various neighborhoods it serves. As a result of the variety programs offered and the values of love, safety and growth for children and families, a more solid community base has been developed within each neighborhood, resulting in opportunities for growth for the community. This is a model I not only believe in, but have witnessed its excellent results. Brilliant Detroit is bringing out the brilliance in its chldren and families!!<br>

I worked for life builders over the summer and I loved working there. It is a great organization and really doing great work for the community.

Better Detroit Youth Moves has been supporting youth in and surrounding Detroit for many years.<br>Recently they partnered with the Autism Society of Greater Detroit to start the AS.PIE baking co; a revolutionary program founded on a For Youth / By Youth social enterprise.<br>The program supports our community by making “Products with a Purpose” to fight isolation and loneliness in our ASD community.<br><br>In this program, isolated ASD teens and adults receive peer support while practicing skills needed to be successful out in the community, including: increased employ-ability and entrepreneurship skills. Boosting personal productivity, increase in conflict-resolving skills, improving outlook on life & an increased quality of life are all key outcomes for participants. <br><br>Better Detroit Youth Moves has been a solid partner and supporter of the special needs community, We look forward to many more years of collaboration with them. Tijuana Smith is a servant leader, who is passionate and intentional about developing young girls.<br><br>She Dreams Inc. offers timely, relevant, and age appropriate programming to equip our girls with life skills. <br><br> I am a volunteer who was invited to be a workshop facilitator with the 2023 Cohort.<br><br>As a subject matter expert, working in collaboration with Tijuana, we prepared the girls for the summer workforce by increasing their knowledge of interviewing, resume building, and personal branding. <br><br>I highly recommend Tijuana and She Dreams Inc! <br><br><br>

Congratulations on the 2023 capital fundraising success that underwrote the move to this fabulous new space in Detroit. This organization does what others are not!. Mother's and young mothers are at the most vulnerable state you could be at womanhood. This organization serves them well with essentials and respect. Classes for birth and parenting are offered and are free! Diapers wipes and even formula is provided to these mothers. <br> <br>This is all in addition to the mentorship program offered!

As a people, where and who would we be without a helpful community there to lift a helping hand? The Community Treehouse Center Detroit has been a true pillar of the community, rendering need to those who otherwise may have gone hungry during the pandemic. Boxed grocery delivery and baked goods were truly life-saving offerings to those who were “staying in and staying safe”! Kudos to all the people involved in making our community stand strong and better together! Looking forward to many more great deeds from the Community Treehouse Center Detroit! Thank you for all that you do!

The most professional and ethical place to be. I brought my colleagues and help set up the clothing closet. We had 10 families shows up for pick up. With that many people we need volunteers on the daily bases to iron and sort goods.

I agree that FWS is THE WORST managed charitable organization I have ever worked for. I too was continuously appalled by the lack of respect, professionalism, honesty and integrity displayed by the President & CEO. She expresses concern for the community and staff and swears she would never throw anyone away...but staff are mere causalities of her lack of integrity. She degrades staff so much to where most employees hide or get called into ridiculously LONG meetings where she tells tales of how wonderful and great she is. It amazes me that after reading these reviews from years ago, that there has STILL not been any accountability for the continued non-payment of vendors, harsh treatment of staff, etc. As previously mentioned, she is corrupt; morally and spiritually. She hires vendors but refuses to pay them when they've completed the work. She finds a staff person to blame and lets them go. She utilizes hourly, salaried staff and even the Summer GDYT youth to facilitate the summer programming, although MDE provides funding for vendors to be hired. If you complain or show any sign of disagreement with how she runs things you are subject to ridicule and cursed out or the ultimate unexpected rude escorting out of the building and fired. The President/CEO pretends to not remember any verbal or email directives that she has given. The CEO's son and daughter work there in key positions and treat staff just as horribly as the CEO. Staff are afraid to say anything about the son and daughter's behavior because they are protected by the presence of their Mother, the CEO. The VP of Early Headstart (the daughter) has the nastiest disposition. There is no guidance given by the leader. <br> <br>The HR Director has no ability to be partial and execute any type of complaints on behalf of staff. The Director of Operations is treated so badly, talked about and cursed out at the drop of a dime. <br> <br>The ability to reach out to the Board is not feasible either, as most of them are handpicked and hold no accountability for the actions of the President/CEO. As others, I have nightmares regarding my employment with this President/CEO. The great legacy of The Historic Franklin Wright Settlements may look good based off "marketing", but it is not a good place. Even the community in which they are there to provide for are talked about badly. <br> <br>Governor Whitmer, or Mayor Duggan there needs to be some real investigating and accountability. This CEO/President claims to love this community, but that love should start with caring about the employees and their financial livelihood and how mistreatment based on false pretenses may affect their children and families.

Sandcastles Grief program sets the stage for kids to learn "It's OK not to be OK", that our feelings are normal, that we all have feelings of loss and may show our feelings differently, and it's OK to talk about your feelings. They are making the situation normal and teaching kids how to deal with their feelings positively. Keep up the good work. Susie Q's Kids is a proud sponsor providing comfort bags, bears, and blankets for the kids to thrive on their grief journeys.

Founder Sarah Deramo is committed to helping kids. Her commitment to offering these children a chance to interact, have fun, and flourish in a safe environment is commendable. All kids deserve to have opportunities, I applaud Sara for presenting these kids with fun, laughter, teamwork, hope, and a path to success.
