I provide volunteer support to the surgical team in the clinic. The whole team is dedicated, compassionate, knowledgeable, professional and efficient. I truly enjoy helping IHA to achieve their goals. I’m also a client; our neighborhood had many, many feral cats that were constantly reproducing. We were able to reduce the feral population over several years with the help of IHA.

These reviews had me worried but the non kill community here in ne iowa reassured me they had never heard of any such experiences with Gems Forever. I had a stray cat that was the sweetest guy on earth but I have 2 cats and they weren't thrilled with him being around. Hero's Haven was trying to find a spot for him but recommended and reached out to Gems Forever for me.<br><br>I asked about the allegations here. They said in their history only one animal had been euthanized for being very terminally ill. They assured me he'd have a spot but that it was up to me. My guy started throwing himself at the door at night just breaking my heart and upsetting my cats. So I decided to take him in.<br><br>They made time for me right away. I arrived a little early and as I watched people fawn over the kitties they commented the cats get adopted quickly there. That turned out to be true.<br><br>The owners were very kind, very adoring of my little guy. They made him right at home and gave him scritchies in between greeting the other kitties and beginning the cage cleaning processes. They seemed really genuine and knowledgeable. My guy got his own cage and was on their site by the end of the hour.<br><br>In literally 6 days he was adopted!!! They sent me pics of him and answered all my queries through that short time. And I can say their cages were clean and nice. Each cat had his own spot (unless bonded), their own blankies and such. I was in the back area and there wasn't any noticable smell beyond the usual. The cages looked as clean as they're gonna be when cats cat. Compared to other petsmart locations I've seen, I was really stunned by how clean it was.<br><br>I'm sure everyone will have a different experience. But considering the important work their doing in an area with very little help for strays/abandon animals I think they are wonderful.

This non-profit is the oldest non profit in the corridor and does such great work. They serve to help people in domestic crisis, housing crisis and provide excellent full pay and assisted pay child care. 98% of their children are kindergarten ready with the pre-school that Waypoint provides. They are excellent stewards of their funds and serve such a huge need in the communities they serve.

The foundation of Deafinitely Dogs! is the human-canine bond. I have witnessed the care that goes into honoring this since the beginning of the organization. The results are thriving teams that are better together because they are together. The dogs are bonded with their human and give them a more independent life. The human partner are bonded with their Service Dog and honor, respect and work with their dogs with love and compassion. <br>It is an amazing experience to be able to witness this magically bond between humans and their dog.

I love Last hope because they are very caring care about the animals and are kind to the foster/adopter parent and Just Care About the animals a lot.

When I take my Mom to her chemo treatments she looks forward to getting her gift from the Gems of Hope basket. It is so nice for her to have something to look forward to during this stressful time. Thanks to Gems of Hope for what they do.

the "IMAA" puts on the Cedar Rapids Tournament of Drums every summer, which is a great drum corps show. it's a fantastic family event. They've also started a local drumline focused on getting kids from the local schools to work together to become better musicians and to have performance opportunities in the CR area.

These people are so caring, giving and dedicated to making sure homeless, stray animals get medical care and forever homes.<br>My husband and I went on the "Two Wheels Four Paws Poker Run" motorcycle ride. It was so well organized, we really enjoyed ourselves, and we were able to help out the animals at the same time. The staff at Riders Club is very helpful with the volunteers. They make sure that every volunteer shares the load and works when they are available. I enjoy helping Riders Club.

Helping Horizons with clerical work, office preparations, and delivering meals has been an extremely fulfilling experience.

I am a special education teacher at Linn-Mar high school and I teach students with autism. I have had the extreme pleasure of having the Corridor Therapy Dogs come out at least once a year to visit our students. Contacting Janet is always so easy and she is very accommodating to our group. She normally brings 3 to 6 groups of dogs and their handlers. I can honestly say that the adults get just as much out of the experience as the students do. It is a delight to see my students' faces light up when many times there is not much enjoyment with the day-to-day class activities. But when the therapy dogs are visiting, it is a completely different story. There are smiles, giggles, joy and a real connection between my students and the dogs. They are a true pleasure to have and I wish we could have them visit every month.

Dogs Forever is fantastic! We recently adopted a dog from this amazing organization. There is so much effort from everyone that works here to ensure that every dog goes to their forever home. They were very informative and worked with us to find the right dog for our large family. They were spot on! We now have a wonderful dog that is a great match for us. Choosing to adopt from Dogs Forever was one of the best decisions we could have made.

not a very honorable or trustworthy service. their "my way or the highway mentality" erodes away any hope and/or trust one might place in them. being force fed the gospel whether or not you believe in their faith is a mandatory requirement if you wish to reside in their shelter. gospel takes precedence over food or shelter just ask master martin.

My daughter, 38 years old, with Asperger's Disorder, was made to leave Cedar House Shelter on Wednesday, January 22nd at 8:30pm by the staff manager, Curtis. The temperature outside was zero degrees and blowing snow. She and the manager had an argument and despite the fact she had sixteen days of paid lodging remaining he told her she was being evicted immediately. He refused to have a conversation when my husband called and hung up stating he did not have to explain himself to anyone or us. The police were very kind and told our daughter she could stay in the police station lobby until morning. She is being assisted by ARC of East Central Iowa and they were able to find a place for her to stay the night to which the police drove her. The next morning my husband called Curtis asking to him to return the money to our daughter for the rent. He refused, stating she had signed an agreement that money would not be refunded and again hung up on my husband. One of the reasons our daughter was at Cedar House Shelter was because she has not been able or capable of finding employment, had been recently divorced by her husband and has no income to obtain lodging. We, her parents, have only been able to send small amounts of money. One hundred and twenty dollars does not seem like a large amount of money, but for someone who has none, it is huge! <br>We understand that her Asperger's greatly affects her social and communication skills, but to evict her in the dark and cold because she "can't keep her mouth shut!" is unforgivable, cruel, and heartless. We believe that situations like this should be investigated and that only those who have understanding of mental health issues be allowed to manage these shelters. <br>********A conversation I had with the house manager, Curtis, shortly after my daughter began her stay gives a sad commentary to how much "power" this gentleman feels he wields. He told me that he works many long hours and keeps this shelter running and he has the complete backing of (I don't recall if it was the Director, the Board of Directors, or whom). He stated he had been the recipient of many complaints but "he (Director? a member of the Board?) has told me that what I say goes and he supports all my decisions, so nobody should mess with me, because it won't do them any good. I even get invited to special events .**************************

We applied to adopt a particular dog with this rescue. We submitted an application, supplying all requested information before the deadline for this dog. A week after the deadline we called to inquire and were told that they were just beginning to review the applications. We waited another 10 days and called back at which time we were told they were just finalizing the adoption of this animal. We were told when we applied that applicants would be contacted. We were never called. I checked the website for this rescue and saw that the adoption date was two days after the deadline to accept applications. To say that we are disappointed is an understatement. I would never work with this rescue again (Safe Journey Rescue).

This is the best nonprofit for helping children hurdle all obstacles to success. When Four Oaks works, children, families and neighborhoods get stronger. Their tag line is "expect success.". It is true. They are breaking ground that no other nonprofit that works with children has even dreamed about.

I recently performed a service learning project for my Museum Studies certificate at the University of Iowa. I worked with the marketing department and was given full license to work with the raw data provided to me, in order to create a professional and comprehensive presentation. I greatly appreciated the opportunity, and look forward to working with the NCSML in the future. The Museum is currently in an interim location, but do not let that deter you as a visitor or volunteer.

One group continues to sing, dance, and stand up tall in the face of the devastating flood that ravaged the 200-year-old Bohemian community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa: the New Bohemian Group.

This community transport keeps people without licenses, or working second/third shift, from having to say no to work because they otherwise couldn't get a ride. The staff that drive the vans and such for the NTS are kind, dependable, and supportive of those who need a little support on the road to full-employment. Cedar Rapids, like most cities west of the Mississippi, has an insufficient public transportation system, but NTS fills in the gaps.
