ALGW is a generous donor to all age groups in the tricounty area. Lives are changed by generous scholarships and gifts of clothing and food. Funds are given to teachers to provide programs that would otherwise go unfunded. SOKS, a ukelele band, cheers the hearts of the sick and elderly with sing along opportunities and laughter. Our community benefits from the many volunteers hours donated by the members of the Assistance League of Greater Wilmington

I adopted my dog, Daisy, from Adopt-an-Angel. They were, and are, a responsive, compassionate, dedicated organization that puts the animals' welfare first. Always. I would never adopt from anyone else. I was so impressed with them that I became a volunteer.

I would give them a zero if I could. I filled out the application. Then signed up for a discovery meeting. They sent me an email confirming the date/time for meeting and instructions to download “GOTO” a special app where we were supposed to have the discovery meeting. I downloaded the special app they required for the meeting and showed up to the meeting at the meeting code they gave at the day and time agreed upon on only to be disappointed that Paws4people never showed up!! At 11:02 (2 mins after the meeting was supposed to start) I started calling and emailing them attempting to find out where they were and I could never get a call back,,, just an email from someone at 11:20 am telling me to sign up *again for a different meeting and time!!!! I was so upset because they clearly didn’t respect me or my time, nor the meeting that was agreed upon where I showed up but they didn’t. Very disrespect and unorganized agency. Rude.

Five years ago, I trained and tutored at the Cape Fear Literacy Council. CFLC is a place where everyone learns in a judgement-free zone: writing mechanics, literature, math, computers, civics, history, science, sure - but also, empathy, compassion, patience, humor, and generosity of spirit.

I have been honored to serve as a volunteer for CUE since 2008 and have seen so much impact made for the families of the missing. <br> <br>CUE is an all volunteer organization who relies on private donations to be prepared to serve the missing persons community in any capacity. No one is paid to do the work we do, it is all time and talent given from the heart. Not only does CUE impact the families, but also each and every one of us who have been a part of the organization. <br> <br>

As first a resident in the Transitional Housing Program, then as a participant in the Urban Ministry Program I spent almost 10 years volunteering in the offices at First Fruit Ministries, working to help the homeless people the Ministry serves.<br>I spent most of my time in the office working in the Transitional Housing Program and one of the brightest ways that First Fruit shines is that it welcomes people without judgement, with love for who and what they are, wherever that happens to be, at any given moment. Nor did any staff ever push their own beliefs on people although it is clearly a Christian-driven ministry. The example was always evident through love, acceptance, and welcome, and was for me, and others I watched over those years, the key to finding a path back to a belief system I had long ago abandoned but would have run from if it had been pushed on me.<br>Over those years I witnessed people who because of what was freely given, because of the emotional and practical support consistently offered, turn their lives completely around. It is the blessing of my life that even after 7 years away I am in touch with several former residents and get to continue to watch people coming from great trauma which resulted in addiction, mental and emotional illness change into a person who found their way to a healthy, joyful, and purposeful life. They, and those I run into occasionally on the bus, even after all these years, still credit those changes to the love, support and foundation received at First Fruit Ministry.<br>The tenets of treating everyone with respect, of making sure they walked with dignity as part of the Ministry family, stretched through all the programs at the Ministry whether it was an encounter of a few minutes in the line at the food pantry or giving fresh clean towels to someone who was taking their first shower after days of living in a tent. Those tenets are an offering to the homeless the Ministry serves that, as I was often told, was not usually part of their experience at other agencies. Making a difference in how someone felt about themselves was, in my opinion, the greatest gift offered to the people the Ministry served and was the most important thing that laid the foundation for a better life.<br>First Fruit Ministry programs are worthy of support, whether it’s financial or time, because they work, because they make a real difference for the better in people’s lives, because they reach the people who need the most help yet are the most neglected among us, because helping someone else is a gift to yourself.<br>

Horrible experience! Will not return phone calls, can not get anyone to meet with you about your loved ones care. Unprofessional head nurse. THIS PLACE IS NOTHING BUT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! RUN FROM THIS COMPANY! DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

I used to live at the Good Shepherd years ago. They provided good meals and a clean environment to stay in. Some of the workers and volunteers were very nice and some of the workers were very mean especially a man named Tim. He no longer works there, praise God! I would have thought a man that used to be homeless would have more mercy and compassion regarding others experiencing the worst situation in their lives but he did not unfortunately. Anyway there was a man, a social worker named Joe who did advise me on what I should do to obtain housing. I am very grateful for him because I was able to move in somewhere and it helped me a lot and then when the place I was living lost its funding and they were trying to evict everyone that lived there., Joe also helped me again to move into somewhere that I could afford because I was on a fixed income. I am grateful for the Good Shepherd so I didn't have to actually sleep on the streets or in a tent. I also pray that God will have mercy on Tim's soul and also I feel bad for customers and coworkers that may encounter him at the Walmart in monkey junction.

We had our kids in mustard seed for 3 years. They were wonderful in the beginning but went down hill after Covid started. Both my sons got a bacterial skin infection and now have scars. I’ve never seen anything like it. The teachers were constantly unhappy and over worked and complained about normal behavior for toddlers. The teachers were no supportive in potty training efforts. My kids would get injuries on their heads that could have been prevented. Several times, they were sent home with dirty diapers that I would change in the car. It was evident they sat in them a long time. The teachers would often say the kids had fevers on Fridays so they could leave early. Once Covid started, the parents were not allowed inside. The daycare cited a state rule that did not exist. The owner texted me late at night and had a temper problem. I had to spend hundreds of dollars on getting doctors notes every time the kids had a rash or cold. Finally, my son was injured by a teacher causing the state to be involved and my pulling my kids out of the daycare. All of the extra clothes we left their labeled had disappeared along with my sons jacket. It was a very stressful experience and I was constantly worried about my children. I lost a lot of time at work and a lot of quality time with my children constantly getting doctors notes

Such a wonderful organization doing so much good for our local veterans. Great people and great dogs!

This program reaches so many children and adults, it is amazing. Situated on a farm off Sidbury Road, miracles often occur with little fanfare. Those of us who volunteer are so fortunate. We experience the pureness of the process of trust, faith and hope when the rider progresses and from witnessing their joy. I encourage everyone, donate, volunteer... enjoy the ride and journey!

I spent four days with several other WARM volunteers replacing dilapidated door frames and windowsills of a struggling family's home. When we finished, not only were the house's residents extremely grateful, but I also had become good friends with many of the other volunteers. With WARM, you can give families in dire straits new hope and be a member of a team that enjoys doing tangible, high-impact work.<br><br>While I joined the organization on my own, it is worth mentioning that WARM provides hands-on service opportunities for schools and youth groups. Reach out to their office if you are planning a service learning trip to southeastern NC. If you live in Wilmington or its surrounding areas, I hope you have the privilege of working with this great organization.

The overdose (fentanyl) death of my son led me to NCHRC. I began to research about fentanyl which kept leading me to the realization of the horror we are facing in our country. I now volunteer for them and distributebute naloxone to those in need of it. I also work to raise awareness by just talking to people.

This organization as filed for bankruptcy and is currently no longer offering services.

I have been involved with the Azalea Festival parade for 30 years. The parade is now the best I have ever seen.

This is an incredibly effective charitable group. I personally know several local volunteers and they are tremendously dedicated and inspired by the founder Paul Wilkes. I've been a donor for several years and enjoy the way the organization stays in touch with you, keeping you up-to-date on how the funds are used and showing the impact on the lives of these beautiful children. Having traveled in India many years ago I've seen firsthand the unimaginable poverty and conditions that these children come from. The task of helping them seems overwhelming, but Paul Wilkes simply rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He has built an amazing organization that makes a real impact. Anyone can feel good about making a donation... they make it go a long way. I love the calendar they send to donors . . . seeing the faces of the girls that Home of Hope helps every day of the year makes you feel good to be a part of it.

I have worked with Anna Brennan since 1981. In fact I volunteered to be musical director for three of her shows before it became "Stageworks". She is an inspiration to many young, talented singer/actor/dancer performers. Through her committed efforts, this is a national headliner! I gave some friends a ride to JESUS MINISTRIES Food Bank on Market street yesterday. Here is what happened while attempting to obtain a little food from thier food bank!! <br> <br>My friends are disabled & 1 is out of work due to lay off... NONE OF THEM RECIEVE FOOD STAMPS because they are on the line/fall through the cracks... <br> <br>(1) We arrived shortly after they opened at 9:30 am... they were all given applications to fill out. The lady at the front desk (I believe her name was Mary) was rude...short...just plain nasty. <br> <br>(2) While filling out apps they were told to lay them down & go outside the bulding for a prayer to bless the food... It took them 15 mins to figure out what to do to begin blessing the food. They finally asked to different ladies to read scriptures from the bible. After 10 minutes of that a young guy volunteered to pray.... this went on for 7 minutes.... he repeated the same thing over & over & over... While Mary proceded to crucnh on something from one of the free food for the needy boxes during the entire prayer... <br> <br>(3) Then this "MARY" preached about making sure we vote for the "RIGHT PERSON" when we go to the polls to vote for the president... what in the world?? <br> <br>(4) So then we were instructed to return to the front room... but it was locked so we had to wait for someone to come unlock it.... then we finished filling out apps. <br> <br>(5) "MARY" kept leaving to go out back where the food was..... so we were just left sitting there... she returned finally and asked for the 1st in our group... she questioned her about EVERYTHING!! When my friend said she didnt get food stamps she called her a LIAR! At one point when she went around around the corner tol speak to another member she referred to us as "GOVERNMENT DEPENDENT LOW LIVES!!" After 2 HOURS the 1st person got a ticket to go outside to get food for 2 (although she has 4 in her family..?? When she went out to get her food she called up the 2nd from our group.... while "INTERIGATING HER" "MARY" Left & went out back again.... right in the middle of conversing.... meanwhile 3 other clients came in & were trying to sign up for food... we walked outside to see what was going on & why this "MARY" kept leaving....I mean come on we been there 2 hours & were getting restless.... MARY Was dictating to the people working the food distribution that "THESE BOXES are being saved for OTHER PEOPLE.... And then she begin TAKING ITEMS OUT of my friends box saying ahe was greedy... She removed BANANAS, APPLES..... YOGURT.... etc..... And tried to remove a package of strawberries... guess she wanted them for herself... She was HATEFUL RUDE NASTY & GREEDY! <br> <br>There were several large boxes she pushed down to one end,, she said "This is bad food for the pigs so you will want to just leave it alone" One of my friends peeked inside those boxes & it was NOT pig food at all...it was HIGH PRICED food that she wanted to keep for herself I am guessing. <br> <br>If these are CHRISTIANS.... I want NO PART OF IT!!! We all just LEFT!! I have NEVER in my LIFE seen a FOOD BANK... CHURCH... MINISTRY.... treat people in need so horrible!

I have been involved with Dustin's GreenHouse as an adult leader for 2 recent Globetrotter trips-Peru and South Africa. In that capacity, I have helped with program planning, raising funds and awareness and establishing long term relationships with the student and adult team memebers. Both trips were incredibly challenging in very different ways but had the same effect--educational, inspirational, philanthropic, and life changing. I cannot think of a better way for young people to learn about the struggles that exist in this world and to realize that their contribution is meaningful and vital than to participate in a DGH Globetrotter trip!

We used Children at Heart for the adoption of our daughter from Kazakhstan. From beginning to end, we found this agency to be responsive, available, honest and forthright in all aspects of our adoption journey.
