The Conversation does great work in helping researchers and scientists share what they know with the public. It fights misinformation and gives people the context and knowledge to make informed decisions.<br><br>They provide this journalism without ads or paywalls, and even give it away for free to other news organizations to use, helping inform people across the country.

For about thirty years now, the international community has worked so hard to medically save lives of people afflicted with HIV/AIDS in Africa, however a new problem has arisen: Children born with HIV/AIDS - whose lives have been saved and are guaranteed by antiretroviral medications - are now adults with a fresh set of socioeconomic challenges threatening their own survival. Thankful to be alive they are at once stigmatized and without hope. With their bodies scarred over a lengthy battle with the disease most youth living with HIV/AIDS (YLWA) are distinguishable and easily identifiable. Employers do not want to take them on (because it is thought they will elicit workplace curiosity and possibly miss many work hours through secondary sickness) and they have no friends/lovers (for their illnesses could be contagious) as their communities treat them disdainfully. YLWA are stigmatized and ostracized, poor, and dejected; they have no hope for happiness. <br><br> Whereas in the developed countries of the world sociopsychoeconomic needs of YLWA are variously addressed, this is not so in the developing countries.<br><br>The hope for these YLWA in poor countries of the world is economic empowerment: Economic progress and success will garner them social acceptability and recognition within their communities. Economic empowerment will bring YLWA happiness. At Community Concepts Inc, we aim to redeem YLWA. We believe and want to prove that living with AIDS/HIV is neither a handicap nor a life sentence. We also wish to change social perception in poor countries by debunking discrimination of YLWA as misconceived and ignorant. Our mission in this respect is part of our overall pursuit for socioeconomic justice for discriminated youths in poor countries of the world. <br><br>Without socioeconomic justice for YLWA, medical intervention would not have achieved a desired end. People that have chronic illnesses need medication to be able to live fulfilling lives; they need medication to live happy lives devoid of pain and stress. But to medically extend one’s life, only for it to be a life of misery is a negation of the hope of science. In Africa, where the lives of youths living with HIV/AIDS have been medically prolonged, these extended lives are largely miserable. Socioeconomic justice is needed to give meaning to the lives of youth living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. <br><br>Community Concepts Inc in Boston is the first international nonprofit to champion the plight of YLWA in Africa and other poor countries of the world. We seek to design and implement appropriate programs that will alleviate the suffering of YLWA and give them a purpose to live.

Sometimes they are just one bill away from eviction. <br><br>You can read each family's story on the site, and the bar tells you the progress toward their goal. It's really all about being part of the community and making a difference in someone's life.

I want to tell you a story about my life in Waltham. <br>My family did not have a lot of money for extras. We just got by. But my mother considered it important that we go on the school’s cultural field trips to hear classical music and to see plays in Boston. She went without and saved so we could pay the amount the school charged to go. <br>This was my introduction to classical music and our arts and culture. It made such a difference in my life and my outlook of the world around me that I vowed to try to make this happen for other kids growing up in Waltham. It is why I work with the other volunteers behind the scenes for the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra. I don’t play an instrument, but I want all kids to have a chance to hear and appreciate classical music. <br>It is why I hope other people will help me do this work by supporting the musicians who give their time and talents to the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra by making a donation to wphil.org. <br>Warm Regards <br>Robin <br>

People forget that organizations serving seniors need help, too. The depth and breadth of services that Springwell provides is incredible, and their staff is very dedicated and professional. It's an honor to support such a great organization.

I have been blessed to have witnessed firsthand the way services provided by this organization has affected many young people's lives. Close to a 1,000 has passed thru its doors graduating and finding jobs to provide a meaningful life. Many have come with no where to go and no idea of how to survive. But joining with World Youth Mission dba Medical Career Center has given many a hope by empowering them to succeed. So many come back a few years later for more training and to testify about their success. It is wonderful to see the transformation from the minute they enter the doors to the day they leave. The confidence and sense of accomplishment which now emanates from their expressions is powerful. <br> <br>I thank this organization for all the glorious works it does here in the USA and abroad in Uganda with children, youths and education. Without it many would truly perish for lack of work, training and knowledge. Today this company has seen many come thru its doors from many countries!

Sports Legacy Institute has done an outstanding job in concussion research, awareness, education and prevention from youth to professional athletes. After sustaining head injury a few years ago, I realized just how much we take our brains for granted. SLI is bridging gaps in sports and medicine. They are providing education so that players, coaches, and parents are more aware of concussions and what to do. They are educating medical professionals in the proper treatment . They have made recommendations to organizations to ensure safer playing. They are bringing to light the effects of CTE to athletes through their research which helps us understand our former athletes better, as well as our own brain. No pun intended , but it's a no brainer why Sports Legacy should be on the 2012 Top-Rated Nonprofits List!

I have volunteered as an English Language tutor at WATCH (Waltham Alliance to Create Housing) CDC for two years, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As part of the tutoring program, WATCH trains English-speaking volunteers and carefully pairs them with adult ELL learners from the surrounding community. Once a week, my learner and I practice conversation and reading, and have terrific discussions about American culture and life. Her confidence and conversational skills have improved tremendously, and it's been really fun for me, too! In addition to the tutoring program, WATCH offers low-cost English classes, a walk-in housing clinic, and energy-efficiency "barn-raisings" to help reduce energy costs for local people. Their staff is friendly, well-established and -organized, and extremely dedicated to their community. WATCH provides the Waltham community with an invaluable service, and I would strongly recommend working with them!

The center has programs that link learning English with learning how to navigate Windows 7, Word 2010, Excel 2010 and IE8, the program is called Skillstep and it is important because in today's work world one needs to know not only how to speak and write in English but also have computer skills; otherwise you are considered unemployable and the program has helped people either obtain employment or get a promotion in their current job. Since the annual Social Security statement is only online, the Center is a good place to take a course on how to learn about Windows 7 and IE8 but also enrolling in a financial literacy course currently be offered so that one can learn how to enroll online to obtain their Social Security future benefit information but also how to save money in order to stretch out the projected monthly income that Social Security says one will get upon retirement age
