Sherman Nonprofits and Charities

I have known Candace since 2016 when I adopted my first mustang from a local kill pen in Bowie, TX. She was so supportive along the way all throughout my journey especially this being my first mustang adopted. I have followed Candace’s journey with Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary and have always felt she was doing the very best for each of the mustangs she comes in contact with making sure they are in the best of care and because of that I have the utmost respect for her and her work. I have met her in person and feel even more of a kinship having known her and seeing first hand how kind and considerate she cares for the horses and for humans. She is kind hearted and also steps up with grace and compassion when something needs to be done. I am very thankful for her and her when and continue to support her efforts throughout her journey.

One of the strongest foundations of this school is its commitment to community service. A student-led organization called the Service Station is one of the most active student groups on campus, spearheading programs such as the Great Day of Service, during which Austin College students donate an entire day to work at many different sites around the community, and GreenServe, an initiative geared towards fostering environmental stewardship in Sherman and the greater Texoma region. With over 16,000 hours of community service each year, Austin College students help the community in numerous beneficial ways. <br> The College also has many local partnerships: Community Series partners with Austin College to bring world-class musicians and performance artists to Sherman. An annual internship program through Social Entrepreneurship for Poverty Alleviation (SEPA) pairs Austin College students with local nonprofits to engage in collaborative project work. Last year alone, well over $40,000 was raised to benefit these nonprofits. <br>There are numerous summer programs such as Duke TIP, Summer Science Splash, and the Austin Teacher Program (ATP) Thinking Camp. These initiatives offer a transformative, educational experience on campus to elementary and middle school students through partnerships with Sherman’s school district and several foundations. <br> As an institution of higher education, Austin College is distinctive. As a small liberal arts college, Austin College gives students the opportunity to connect with their professors; the student to faculty ratio is 12:1. In these small classes, students think for themselves, express their opinions, ask thoughtful questions, pioneer innovative ideas, and lead powerful initiatives. With their Austin College education, students strive boldly into the world with both a local and global perspective. <br>

I have had the oppertunity to visit the shelter several times over the past few years delivering Christmas gift and my son has spent time with the kids at the center through the fellowship of his church group. The shelter provides a valuable service to the children who pass through its doors. The staff is loving and kind.

Disabled and homeless can't find affordable housing and ran out of time . Have children but displaced at the moment had to put them with friends who could take better care. Can't find a place that will take a dog who is my best loyal friend. Need help but can't find any. It shouldn't be this hard for a disabled person to find help. I'm scared we will be on the street. I have no family or friends I can reach out to just want to be on my feet again and have safe stable housing keep asking God for help but there is no help in sight

Women Rock, Inc. is an amazing organization. They are officed in Sherman but they serve clients all over the DFW metroplex and even up into southern Oklahoma. <br>They have a mammogram voucher program because early detection is so important, they can pay for diagnostics and ultrasounds. They also offer financial assistance for breast cancer warriors, during treatment, with everyday expenses like rent, medical, or utility bills as well as being a rock for breast cancer patients to lean on for emotional and logistical support. <br>Post-treatment, Women Rock hosts survivor gatherings and outings, survivor trips, and opportunities for Survivors to give back by partnering with a newly diagnosed individual and supporting them, 1 on 1, through their treatment journey. <br>An amazing organization that really cares about the people. <br>

Horrible horrible horrible. <br>I’ve called them 30 times for help. <br>Been there once. Just for them to say “come to group” which i cannot attend, as I’m a single mom who works, and can’t come to group. <br>I have emailed begging, and pleading for help, just someone to help me. <br>They do not return phone calls, they do not return emails, then they’ll give you “we have no assistance”. Ok? So what do you have? Aren’t you a crisis center???? For those in abusive traumatic situations?!!? <br>I have never in my life been so hopeless, but this place is a waste of time, the ONLY crisis Womens center in Grayson county, and they do not care, they can’t even return a phone call when you’re in distress, it’s absolutely disgusting. <br>One time i went there 15 years ago, and i was lured out by a resident who was a hoe, literally, and she told me if i left with her, she would help me get my baby back, and i ended up getting sex trafficked. <br>This place is hell, and i thought “maybe they have changed.” But nope, they do not care about you, or your innocent kids. <br>They do not assist. <br>They do not refer. <br>They do not answer or call back. <br>They’re rude when you call multiple times, because they say “someone will call you back” and no one does. <br>Everytime you call them, they say “we have no record of you calling” um, I’ve called 24 times in the past 12 months, and done MULTIPLE phone intakes, and everytime i call back. <br>“We have no record of you calling” <br><br>This place, trying to get help, has given me absolutely no hope whatsoever of getting any help in Grayson county, and I’m not allowed to leave Grayson county due to my divorce decree; so basically, I’ll never get abuse, or trauma assistance. <br>This place is horrific. I wish i could tell you there’s somewhere else you can go, but here i am over a year later….brick wall, hopeless, pointless, and useless. I give up.

Our purpose is to show God's love and bring unity and training for women who serve as Marketplace Chaplains in the community. These may include but not limited to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, grief and recovery. Experienced women helping other women to excel in their God given calling and provide fellowship and covering. Suicide, jail and prison ministries, teaching, decorating, homemaking skills and also offer resources to help women in their service to hurting people they feel called to reach. Non-denominational Charity ministry.

I have been involved with this charity for 5 years. There are no paid employees ensuring all money and donations go directly to benefit the children in foster care from Grayson County. The board pays for expenses not covered by the state so the child has the same advantages as any other youth. The board provides a room of basic care items and clothing as a resource for case workers to use as needed. Birthday and Christmas gifts are furnished by the board. There are many ways the board supports the County’s most vulnerable and the foster families.

Outreach to hurting women from the jailhouse to the penthouse. Ministering in many practical ways, using various outreaches and training. A listening ear, a shoulder to cry on a arm to lean on and a helping hand.

This group was involved in the trafficking of a groups of boys who performed under the name Zambia Acapella Boys Chior. I am a new member and am looking forward to learning more about rocks, fossils and artifacts. And especially the field trips!! Never stop lookin down :)

I originally connected with MKM as a teacher. One of my students needed help with hwk and through some research I found KaracterKeys, MasterKey's afterschool program. While communicating with the director about my student, we developed a relationship and she invited me to be part of the board. Since then, MKM has grown tremendously. There are several "branches" that reach out the community in an effort to provide the "keys" to important doors such as education, nutrition and spiritual growth. Additionally, building relationships is at the core of MKM. Every MKM volunteer has a heart for service and thus sacrifically gives of him/herself.
