Rome Nonprofits and Charities

I do not know how to begin to tell this story......so I'll just write from the heart. I worked with Joey in the corporate world many years ago. We lost touch. Then about 15 years ago I found his name on Facebook when he was working for another company and running the rescue with his wonderful wife, Cynthia. We reconnected and my then husband, myself and our little 2 year old grand-daughter went to the original farm to visit. There we met Xena (the wonder mini) Caramel, Twonkey and beautiful Greyson.(Cynthia's horse from years gone by that Joey found and brought back to the rescue) And we got to see Destiny as a tiny colt. My grand-daughter was amazed with all but especially taken with mini Xena. I have always sent what I could afford to help the whole crew and recently added Trinity to my will. Trinity was too far away for me to help as a volunteer and then I had moved out west. When I came back to GA the rescue was in new digs in Rome, Still to far from me. We visited with grand-daughter and new grandson....Xena was still the star. It is amazing to me that these 2 special people are able to do what they do with a regular job and the rescue......but then their success also counts on the awesome volunteers who help with the animals every day. Probably partially due to her visits to Trinity my grand-daughter has decided she needs to ride and is now taking horseback/barrel racing lessons locally where we live........thanks to the visits to trinity to discover how wonderful equine life is. I cannot say enough good things about Trinity and how they work with other rescues to help where needed. It is a large job to handle equine ( and the other animals they have on site)in addition to holding down 9-5 jobs. God love the volunteers for their help and I am very happy to donate what I can when I can........Joey and Cynthia rock in my book. Thanks guys!!!! They are the BEST!!!!!!

Self-Sustainable communities are the future! Camp Bohdi, Inc. has been a staple by providing free food to those in want, music and food festivals to raise awareness of cause, and educational services for children and adults to learn the importance of reconnecting to nature and utilizing it's untouched benefits.

I love working for this nonprofit! It is very fulfilling work with this organization and I truly love getting to know all of the homeowners. Another aspect of my job that I love is working in the ReStore and getting to know our amazing, loyal customers! Our staff and volunteers make our store a great place to visit and work. I feel blessed to be a part of such a great team!

This is an amazing organization which provides an array of support services for children and families affected by a cancer diagnosis. It is an honor to be a small part of carrying out their mission.

I love this mission! I'm in a unique position, as someone who is not staff and is not a member, to see the impact that this organization has on everyone that it touches. Elevation House is more than a place, and it's more than a mission. It's a family. It is crafted together by people from different walks of life, with different backgrounds, blending their worlds together. When you walk in the doors, the hierarchy that one may expect to see is non existent. It is a friendship. Everyone greets everyone with the warmest welcome, everyone is genuinely invested in the well-being of the others there and everyone feels like family. Any opportunity to pop into the clubhouse is a highlight, for not only me, but my young children who have developed such a heart for servitude just by being in the presence of this mission. My oldest daughter says that Elevation House is her favorite house. I've loved every moment of working along side these members for volunteer projects. They're so giving of their time, skills and talents, and I'm so thankful that they've taken me in as a friend. In 4 short months, this organization has impacted the lives of everyone that it has encountered.

This shelter really shows dignity and respect for the men they shelter. My brother is or was homeless. I lost touch with him and helping this shelter is my way of doing something about a situation I can’t fix. God is changing lives through this place and I hope wherever my brother is someone shows him love, dignity, respect but above all a Jesus type of blind love for those who look for second chances...

This Ministry is out in the community doing the work of feeding the homeless and the poor. Helping anyone in need and doing the will of God.

Rome Federated Garden Clubs, Inc. in Rome, GA is always helping to beautify, conserve and educate the community. Each of the 10 clubs has a 'garden spot' in Rome. The clubs are responsible for changing the flowers, etc. each season or more often if needed. RFGC also has many projects for children and students, senior adults, and programs that educate the community on gardening. Not only those things, but they also have a very active role in giving scholarships to college students who are majoring in horticulture, agriculture, landscaping and anything gardening.

A small staff of caring people. This museum is free to the public for touring, and helps with local historic research - free of charge. Although it is a "city" museum - it is not run or paid for by the city of Rome. Annual operations budget is $130,000 to $150,000 yearly. <br>Donations here are much needed and well spent. Volunteers and visitors are always welcome!

We are a local grassroots program dedicated to providing support and education to child victims of sexual abuse. We are now 25 years old, and have served hundreds of victims over the years. There is n-e-v-e-r a charge for services ... And somehow we have stayed afloat for all these years. We are an integral part of a child's' healing from the trauma of sexual abuse. Siblings of victims are encouraged to also attend - I have witnessed children become stronger, more confident, less fearful and ashamed of the abuse, and truly move from being a victim to becoming a survivor. HEROES from the program years ago now come back and participate in volunteering to assist children now journey down the path of healing.

The Historic Desoto Theatre Foundation, Inc. is a great organization that oversees this historic building in downtown Rome, Ga. If you have not visited the Historic Desoto Theatre in recent years, I personally invite you to any event/activity/show of the Foundation and/or Rome Little Theatre. DIGS, Inc. is a relatively new org. working to provide safe housing, work and leisure opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. In a little more than two years several leisure choices have been established: "Just As I Am" show choir "Snap Happy Camera Club" "Art Hearts" Art Club and "1 Step @ a Time" dance club Our participants are a making new friends and parents/caregivers are developing support and networking relationships. One volunteer work opportunity has been established "One Step Closer" unique garden art, which produces garden decor items from recycled materials.
