Greatest thrift shop in the Reno-Sparks area and the volunteers deserve a GREAT THANK YOU for all they do the keep the shop, organized, fair prices and are friendly to see smiles on their faces. This is hard work and look forward to shopping in my favorite shop; even though it is a distance from my home, it is worth the drive to shop. I am a trained teacher and founder of social organizations. I created my first organization in 2012 with the aim of helping the Haitian population. Having arrived in the United States thanks to President Biden's humanitarian program, I created a nonprofit with the same objective. Unfortunately, until today, I have not been able to find a person of good will or an institution to supervise us both in terms of training and assistance.

I was a teacher here at this school, and they decided to fire me because I fought back against them wanting to give me a verbal warning for “ending class,” when someone soiled themselves in the classroom and they students were told to leave. The rule is, subs don’t get prep time, so if students aren’t there, then I can’t do much. Also, it was a biohazard. I got scolded and punished for not keeping them in the room and not asking to end class, when the class wasn’t cancelled… they felt. I mean… wouldn’t you? ??????<br><br>They also threatened to not pay for tutoring hours if they weren’t logged in a binder. Another illegal practice. <br><br>Not only that, they fired another girl for discrimination against her mental illness. ANOTHER illegal practice. <br><br>Even more, they tried to make certain employees work without their legal mandated breaks. ANOTHER illegal practice. <br><br>It’s a great place for students, but a TERRIBLE place to work. Your work ethic isn’t valued, or your morals. Your position relies on Linda and Adrienne’s power trips. If you comply, you can stay. If you speak out or need help, and they lose that control over you, and you will be fired. It’s amazing when you don’t get on their bad sides, but they fire people due to retaliation (ILLEGAL) all the time.<br><br>Don’t apply for this job if you want a safe space to grow ??????

To begin with, I am not a member of the Reno Friends. However, I have known several members of the Reno Friends over many years, and I have been associated with groups that this small Society has helped financially and in other ways over many years. I am the Coordinator for the Alternatives to Violence Project Nevada (AVP NV). For around 17or 18 years, the Reno Friends helped AVP NV expand from presenting AVP workshops in one local prison to working in four Nevada prisons (until one was closed) and working in one federal prison. The Friends paid for motel rooms in rural communities too far from Reno to travel to daily, plus paid for other costs of supplies and gas for travel. The Reno Friends kept AVP NV afloat for all that time. In addition, another small group I have been associated with for many years, Sierra Interfaith Action for Peace, at one time lost its office space. The Reno Friends generously allowed SIAP to meet monthly at their worship site. They also promoted the work of SIAP, such as our weekly Peace Presence Vigil in downtown Reno, which still meets today after 23 years. When I think of the Reno Friends, I think of selflessness, generosity, and compassion for humanity. The Reno Friends have been a blessing in my life, but also a blessing to the greater community.

Love this organization - the trail work and wilderness experiences are fantastic.

Tracy is the main volunteer and Executive Director of Community Cats. She works tirelessly doing the exhausting work of TNR-M (Trap, Neuter, Return and maintain) feral cat colonies. I am always so in awe at her tenacity and dedication over the many years that she has volunteered to save/foster/home feral cats and kittens. I have worked directly with her several times and she never ceases to amaze me. She definitely has a natural ability with and love for these abandoned felines that our community seems to have forgotten. <br><br>Please send any donations that you can afford to P.O. I have been a volunteer with the organization since 2003. My first two Littles graduated high school and my third is on her way to as well. Being there as one extra adult who can encourage and support a youth means a lot to me. I have had so much fun showing my Littles new things. I have also loved hearing my Littles chatter away about something that they are really into.<br><br>My experience as a volunteer led me to take a position with the organization too. The commitment to the mission & the role in prevention meant a lot to me when looking for somewhere to expand my career. <br><br>

Moving from Palo Alto, CA for my husband’s work I was concerned about the educational offerings in NV. We are eight years in to our Sage Ridge School experience and have nothing but the utmost gratitude for what this school has given to our three children. We truly believe they are the best version of themselves not just in the academic foundation the school provides but in their confidence and character that can only be earned through hard work, high expectations, and exploration, all the while being supported. My three children could not be more different but I have seen this year after year in the graduates whose expression of excellence is as unique as they are, but profoundly similar in the core strengths they take into the world. I can with complete confidence recommend Sage Ridge to any family who holds education, character development, and a well rounded learning journey as their highest value. It is the best money we have ever spent.

The first picture you see to the left is my humble dwellings in the ghetto. My rent is $900 a month for a onebdrm with no A/C and I pay the utilities. I am low income, however limited credit is my prison, for now.<br>The second picture is of a beautifully manicured residential rental estate approximately 6 miles away, stop rolling hills, in the more luxurious area of Reno. A onebdrm apartment in that RESIDENCE is only $550 a month, all utilities included, balconies, side-by-side W/D in unit, free WIFI and no deposit. My deposit in the ghetto was $3000. <br>Most of you will never worry the mishaps of life, in such a way, so I wouldn't ever move either, if I had it so good. But I don't. No one in my hood neighborhood does. But then most live 10 to household of 2 bdrm. (hunt-hint) Enough is enough. I'm fighting for someone else, now. Doesn't matter about me anymore. Call it what you want, but donate first and make a difference.<br><br>I am only one warrior in this battle to overcome difficult circumstances without baring fangs of hopelessness, as an accomplishment. I only make small , sure, and reliable steps in my self-made delivery. I will not go it alone, therefore, your immediate donations are needed. I can be self-righteous, unfamiliar, uncomfortably new, and stubborn. My best trait is " don't do NOTHING!" How sad. My entire existence, has been and always will be my testimony of success. I am sure it doesn't make sense right, now. I am patient and noteworthy. Moms On The Run helped me during a GREAT time of need! I was already facing stress and worry with the medical issues I was facing, but then to know that I would be out of work and struggling to pay bills was even more stress. I serve on many boards in this community so I have significant experience with the many nonprofits in the northern Nevada area. I can honestly say that the staff at the Children's Cabinet deeply care about the mission of the Cabinet. And the children that are served there are receiving exactly what they and this community needs - a commitment to them as the future of our community, education and both physical care and emotional care. Without this organization, many children and young adults would be forever lost.

Great way to help kids learn responsibility and respect of others while empowering them to care for animals themselves. Definitely impactful!

Sierra Nevada Christian Music Association was founded to bring Christian Contemporary Music to youth of the area. The association eventually (via volunteers) erected and put a genuine radio station on air (Renegade Radio 101.3 FM). The first air date was July 4, 1997 and the station has continued through 2017 so far. As a "Christian" station it does not fit the stereotype, as it plays music in a Top 40 style with no preaching whatsoever. An analysis of the ratings and population density, it is estimated that there are about 15K listeners each week.

I am proud to be an Nevada Youth Empowerment Project (NYEP) graduate. <br>My Senior year of high school was a very impactful year. I delt with the major transition of high school to college all while struggling with the stress of not having a a place to call home. I was a student working towards an honors degree and needed a safe place that would help support my goal of attending the university the following year. <br>Finding NYEP has been a true blessing. There I was able to focus all me energies into graduating successfully, transitioning into college, learn skills vital to being fully independent, all in a loving and supportive environment <br>Since successfully graduating the program I am 11 credits from receiving my bachelors degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, have lived in my own apartment, held a job for nearly 2 and a half years at an office job, and studied oversees. <br>I know the value of this program in young womens lives because of my personal experience and the ladies I have met go through it along the way. I have grown to care so deeply about this program that I have started a volunteer running group. I encourage you to visit the program and meet the girls who are apart of NYEP and learn exactly what it is that they educated and prepare these young ladies to be successful in. Thank You NYEP for all the help and support you have given me and the help you give to the many other young women in our community!

They were not able to help our family financially because of my location. However, their quick response to my application, caring words and efforts to refer me to another organization helped us in other ways. They showed me that they are truly an organization that cares. <br> <br>I am sure that location specific charity organizations get bombarded by people that mass apply without bothering to read or review anything on their site. My thought is that such organizations are probably so overwhelmed by such applications that they would reply to out of area applications with a form letter or just ignore them. I did actually review the site and requirements for qualification, but apparently missed the geographic requirement. Facing an emergency situation I am not thinking all that well. But, as I previously mentioned, they replied with a personal email and phone call, and not only did they reply but they went above and beyond sending information about other organizations. <br> <br>So, if you are in the Northern NV area I would highly recommend either donating to this organization or contacting them in the event that you have an emergency and need assistance apply to them. Little Shakespeare must be proud!

I am not to put the bad mouth on people who are supposed to lead you in the foot steps in the word of God; "but clearly Gwen is a train wreck" Maybe the organization back in 2010 was great, but now it suffers due to poor management the bad attitudes that you don't see coming from behind the scenes. <br> <br>Upon my strongest belief after volunteering although Gwen paperwork may be in tact; she is not a tactful person but only when she feels it is important to be for example: "WHEN THE TAX AUDITS COME ABOUT OR WHEN IT IS TIME TO RENEW A GRANT" <br> <br>Her tact skills in 2014 are just not on point and people look at you all across the board especially how you treat your clients and volunteers. In my opinion; I think she is misusing funds, having people come to the meetings just to get signatures to show to the GRANT people that people are attending so that she could get more funding, and continue to use Anne Cates in her office as a do-girl which is also running her into a rain wreck because of how Gwen runs her to death with absolutely no kind of organization or order and using her for other collateral matters not pertaining to her job description. <br> <br>I witnessed her talk bad about her clients, point out the ones who were HIV/ AIDS infected, ones with mental health issues, as well as talk about Anne and how they bribe people into coming to the meetings by giving them $50 Walmart Gift cards and a hot meal every now and then to keep them coming. <br> <br>I really think she is not providing resources of her center to help these people and is careless and sending them to other organizations and pocketing the funding. <br> <br>I can never/ will never volunteer for her organization again and most definitely would not recommenced this organization in 2014 for your community outreach needs, counseling, meetings, nor to any kind of help because sincerely you will not get it, but you will get talked about behind your back. <br> <br>Now if Pastor Glenn Taylor comes to put that organization back in order; "you might have some hope" But clearly Gwen is messing things up, unfair to her clients, volunteers, and Anne Cates and is a train wreck. She need to go set down and have several seats. The nature of this rating was not to be vindictive, but to let the deserved public know the real deal about this organization, which makes me even question the making a visit back to the church in connection with the organization. <br> <br>

The Head Injury Association of Northern Nevada was founded in 1982 (about the same time as the Brain Injury Association of America.) It's Mission Statement is: The Head Injury Association of Northern Nevada is the voice of advocacy for brain injury survivors, their families, and caregivers in the Greater Northern Nevada area. Our Mission is to help brain injury survivors put their lives back together “piece by piece” through support, empowerment, resources, public awareness education, and youth prevention programs. <br>Recent programs for its members include a 10 week course in Cognitive Training Development and a three month physical fitness training program. Our youth support group has been speaking about a case study on one of its members that was severely hurt in a professional motorcycle race.

HE IS A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD WITH A LOT OF DISABILITIES <br>INCLUDING BI POLAR DISORDER, AUTISM, POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER AND A LOW IQ (WHICH RESULTS IN A LOT OF LEARNING DISABILITIES). BUT TO MY HUSBAND AND I HE IS OUR LITTLE MIRACLE FROM HEAVEN. WE GET VERY LITTLE HELP FROM THE STATE OF NEVADA. HIS PARENTS HAVE ALWAYS PAID US CHILD SUPPORT BUT HIS MOTHER LOST HER JOB AND RAN OUT OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS <br>LIKE MILLIONS OF OTHER AMERICANS. WE HAVE ALWAYS PAID FOR HIS INSURANCE OURSELVES AND SOCIAL SECURITY GIVES US $238/MONTH AND ON GIVES US $300/MONTH. <br> <br>WE DONT GET FOOD STAMPS, MEDICAID OR ANY ASSISTANCE. SO OUR DOCTOR TOLD TRU VISTA ABOUT US. LAST YEAR I WAS HOSPITALIZED FIVE TIMES, AND MY GRANDSON TWICE. IT WAS NOT A GOOD YEAR FOR ANY OF US. BUT DIANE AT TRU VISTA SHOWED UP AT OUR FRONT DOOR <br>WITH A $100 GIFT CARD FROM WALMART TO BUY HIS CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. WHAT A BLESSING!!!! <br> <br>MY HUSBAND GAVE 21YEARS TO THE MARINE CORPS AND THEY ARE THE ONE WHO HAS HIM INSURED. <br> <br>ANYWAY, I DIDNT MEAN TO RAMBLE BUT THIS IS A WORTH WHILE NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION AND MAYBE SOME DAY WE CAN REPAY THEM. I have been a Board Member for several years now. It has been exciting to watch this organization grow. We provide LOCAL support with LOCAL donations. We would like the Reno/Sparks/Tahoe community to be aware that there IS a local Non-Profit that supports diabetic Adults and Children.
