Phoenixville Nonprofits and Charities

They were unwelcoming and made me feel very uncomfortable during my visit I applied for a rescue dog and drove 1 hour and was there to meet my potential new baby. The woman did not greet me. She asked my name and then I told her I was there for the poodle mix. She asked did I have other a pets, I said,"no". She looked me up and down again and said she needs to be with someone that has a dog. They did not post that on the website but how convenient to say that once she saw me, a woman of color. She had the nerve to allow me to see her but quickly said, " try the brandywine spca and good luck. I was so hurt because I knew the way everyone in this established looked at me when I first walked in, I wasn't going to get that baby. <br>I will never recommend that rescue to any of my friends or family. They all made me feel so unwelcomed. When I left, I felt that they discriminated against me because of the color of my skin.

Mom's House of Phoenixville was not at all what I thought it would be. It was more! They advertise themselves as a free daycare for low-income single mothers pursuing an education, but what they really are goes beyond words. I spent three and half years being a client at Mom's House and two years volunteering/working there and I am proud to have been part of an organization that gives single moms a fighting chance. At an education. At a better life for themselves. At a better life for their child/children. At a career. At a support network of lifelong friends. At hope. Mom's House gives so much and asks so little. I credit my current success as both a mother and working single mom solely to Mom's House and the opportunity they gave me. They were a second home to my daughter while I finished college and I am forever grateful for my time spent there with those lifesaving individuals.

The Colonial Theatre is the centerpiece of Phoenixville! My husband and I are proud to be members supporting this vibrant organization. It's not just a movie theater! Live performances, children's programs, special events such as Oscar Night and the Blob Fest draw crowds of all ages and interests. Having the Colonial as a magnet draws people to the other fine shopping, dining and cultural attractions of our town. Mary Foote and her staff are so creative in making the vision come alive, and support and participate in the life of the community.

Trellis for Tomorrow is an great nonprofit partner focused on the sustainable growth of youth and the community. The work they do to educate all about sustainability and health is invaluable work in today’s world. We are looking forward to partnering with Trellis on an upcoming garden project next spring, to give back to our local community. Trellis has been an outstanding partner and with enjoy working with their talented team.

Very bad foster experience , I was Givin a sick dog that the volunteer kept saying was a bevavior ,he has issues digesting his feed.he has been bounced around because he has running poop.returned by a family because of this too,asked to leave boarding over the same issues.instead of addressing this issues time and time again he was just labeled bevavior .<br>The dog is not a behavior with housebreaking he has issues digesting feed . The volunteer just told me he needs house breaking . Realizing he us perfectly house broken but rather having digestion issues white colored poop, knowing what this is I asked he be tested for enzyme defiencies not being able to break feed down .he is skinny ,came dirty and stinky, has a stiff back leg ,a pressure sore on his hip and a bad spot of fur . And agressive .I had to argue to get him to see a vet .and I was very concerned about the agressive . I mentioned as long as he was in their care why hadn't the issues been adressed. So he could have had his home and not bounced around . I called their vet to let them know so that could be addressed . Was told I could vet him and they would pay by the volunteer but come the time she said I could not .being 2 hours away how was going to get vetied to get this solved..I sent him back because my hands were tied ,I had their sick dog and could not vet him .I of course was not happy asking why hasn't he been vetted and trained being in your care so long .and now being agressive .very sad experience and I'm concerned for the dog .

Stephanie's House is a wonderful place started by a very loving mother, Marie Ludwig. Marei has a daughter who is now too old for care as a special child. Knowing the kind of place her daughter, Stephanie and other adults like her would be placed in, she did not want that for them. She began building a home for her daughter and others like her that would be a loving home enviorment. It has taken years of dedication and hard work. She has the support of her husband and so many loving friends and strangers that is has become a reality. Her work is not finished, ther are the daily expences to be met and other homes to build. She has tow sons that have special needs of their own which she sees to that they both recive. She works as a demonstrator for kitchen and food manufactures. She helps anyone who asks, no matter how busy she is. I am amazed at her energy, her compashion and her ability to love everyone. <br>

This is the group that hosts the annual Phoenixville Blues Festival, raising money for local charities and under-privileged youth. They do a tremendous job each year supporting our community, drawing in visitors and presenting our town in a great light.
