I have been associated with this great organization for many years, mainly as a donor and a participant at their fund raisers. Several years ago we moved to a rural part of Mobile county and I became aware of the tragedy of abandoned animals. I don’t know how many dogs I have picked up on my road alone and if it wasn’t for the Mobile SPCA I don’t know what I would have done. They always graciously take in whatever I find. I know that these animals are lovingly taken care of and find good homes. The staff and the volunteers do such an excellent job of taking care of all the animals and also work hard trying to raise funds to continue their efforts since they receive no federal or local government funding. This is a hard working, dedicated group of people who provide much needed services to our community. Please help them in their mission to help God’s creatures.

yes , I am searching for some help on a dear to me home for which I almost got need a rebuilt home. I was told to reach out to some non profit groups for which I have never done . I have been paid some one money that I never even had and I thought he was really out to help me but all the time they were plotting on my paydays which comes up short majority of the time because I take care of my grandmother and here lately she has been in / and out of the hospital for a month. I refuse to keep losing out and cant even live totally in the home can some one please reach out to me. I have ownership to the home i just need some help

I was employed at a retail store in Tillmans Corner a few years ago. While employed there a stray dog showed up and it was injured. This dog did not use his rear legs when he walked....he didn't drag them but he would put them straight up in the air. Very sad. I called Aide For Animals and they got busy and got the dog and had him treated. That's a wonderful group that really loves animals.

A great organization that helps education on TNR. They provide traps and assistance for TNR. Invaluable to our area

Fist off all together 1 of the male doctors amazing professional and nice but that's all.Front desk workers will talk about you and gossip when you can hear them will never answer or return phone calls as I sit in the emergency room waiting on emergency surgery I can't get ahold of one person to reschedule an appointment and know I won't get a call back never do I will have to pay a 15 dollar fee now because literally they don't answer the phone . The doctors are great in the back front desk workers are just not it.i wish I had a better experience here after moving out of my home being destroyed for Ida and came there to find a general doctor home... Sad to say i tried my hardest to work with them<br> I even came in for an appointment that was made in advance and they processed to tell me them not having that doctor in is my fault because I couldn't answer a phone call as I work 60 hour a week and they didn't even leave a voicemail come on are y'all serious now. Great prices if you can deal with the front.

When I asked to purchase items from a donated box at the thrift store that had been placed behind the counter, I was told they were not for sale. The box was full of antique items that would have generated a good profit, but the employee told me that the “good” items were sent to another location and therefore, I couldn’t purchase them. Strangely enough, he obviously was aware of the value since he wanted to know if the reason for my interest was for reselling. What I don’t understand is why I couldn’t purchase something if the money goes to the same organization? What it really appeared to me, was the employee stashed the box for himself. If the items that would generate the most profit aren’t even for sale, I guess this thrift store location didn’t need my money. I would suggest if you have items to donate, take them somewhere else that actually sells them to the public.

Penelope House is overall a decent agency to work for, however, there are many issues that need to be addressed in order for staff to feel appreciated and valued. Supervisor's micromanage every single task that staff completes.. Be prepared to tell the supervisor every single task you have completed every single day. Supervisor's tend to call out staff for mistakes in a group setting but does not address the 'real' issues. Supervisor's also look down on staff when asking questions and treat staff as incompetent. Supervisor's play favorites with staff and with the clients. Allowing certain clients to break critical safety rules with no consequences while other clients are put out for small mistakes. Staff often blame the victims for their situation. Staff do not allow for the clients to have autonomy. Staff do not respect the clients right to self determination. Staff baby the clients and do not allow for clients to gain any sense of independence. Issues of staff picking on gay and black clients were directly presented to the supervisor's and executive director but were never addressed. Staff do not abide by the NASW Code of Ethics. Licensed Social Workers continuously break the NASW Code of Ethics and Supervisor's put staff in a position where staff must defend themselves in order to not break the code of ethics. Supervisor's and the executive director request staff to donate to the agency and peer-pressure staff to donate money to the agency to 'support its grants'. Staff are severely underpaid for the work being completed. The agency requires all staff to hold a degree, yet barely pays over minimum wage with limited benefits. There are no retirement or life insurance benefits through the agency. There are also no benefits for malpractice insurance for social workers. There is no chance for advancement within the agency and there are no opportunities for raises. There are issues within the supervisors and administrative staff. Many of the higher ups are related and show favoritism towards staff who are of Greek decent. Due to these issues, many staff are trying to leave and the turn over rate is very high. Overall, Penelope house is an ok place to work. It is a good place for young social workers to gain experience and work with a population that truly need the help. Penelope House does a disservice to their clients by not addressing these issues.

This nonprofit has great events that encourage people to get outside and on the water. They teach you to appreciate the natural resources in your area and how to protect them.

My name is Jenny Oveson and I live in Mobile, AL. I was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect in which a developing baby's spinal cord fails to develop properly, and Hydrocephalus, a neurological condition that exists when excess cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the ventricles inside the brain. Because of these disabilities, I use a power wheelchair and live with my parents. When I was born, my father made it his mission in life to better the lives of people with disabilities and our families. He achieved this when I was 6 years old the Director of Family Support. <br>Family Support is a source of help that is designed for Alabama's children or adults with developmental disabilities and their families, and Alabamians with Traumatic Brain Injury at any age. We envisions a day when every family receives the respect and support that will allow them to stay together, fully participate in community life, and share in the opportunities that can lead to a secure, quality lifestyle. We believe that people with disabilities and their families are best able to determine their own needs, and should be empowered to make decisions concerning necessary, desirable and appropriate services. Additionally, we believe that supports must be provided in ways that build on existing social networks and natural sources of support, that strengthen the capacity and the integrity of the family, and that can accommodate unique needs.

SOMI is the house with a heart, a drop-in center for people living with a mental illness who are in recovery. It opens at eight o'clock in the morning and closes at two in the afternoon. The hallmark of SOMI is its volunteer board. Members sign up to run SOMI each day: from kitchen duties, manning the front desk, running the store, keeping the inside and outside clean, to floaters who give volunteers a smoke or bathroom break. SOMI allows members to buy items their food stamps can't buy at fifty cents on a dollar. People receive a continental breakfast in the morning with a hot meal prepared by a great cook for their midday meal. People who attend SOMI really enjoy the camaraderie shared by all.

I came to Ozanam through the AmeriCorps VISTA program from northern New York. I knew absolutely no one in the state of Alabama. <br>The staff and volunteers of Ozanam welcomed me with open arms, like I had known them my entire life. <br>Over my year of service at Ozanam, I have learned so much about the work that this organization does for Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties. Every year, Ozanam gives over 1600 patients the medications that they need to stay on their jobs and keep food on their family's table. These 34,000 prescriptions help patients maintain their chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes. <br>Unlike other organizations, Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy provides these services at ABSOLUTELY NO COST to the patient. My daughter has had a wonderful experience as a Girl Scout through the good work of Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama. During her three years in a troop, she has developed skills that will serve her throughout her life and had more fun that she ever thought possible. I'm so glad she has had this wonderful opportunity, and I'm grateful to GSSA for providing a much-needed service for girl leadership experiences within our community.
