Like others who have shared their HomeFront experiences here, I have been involved with this excellent organization dating back to when it was known as the Princeton Exchange Club. My wife and I have supported HomeFront by volunteering our time, as well as by making annual financial contributions. <br> <br>More recently, for over a year, I have been volunteering one day each week as a tutor of basic English grammar and composition at HomeFront’s Family Preservation Center in Ewing, helping to prepare women enrolled in HomeFront’s WorkFirst program to take—and pass—New Jersey’s General Educational Development (GED) exam, the equivalent of earning a high school diploma. While the English component of that exam focusses on the preparation of an original essay, graders take into account proper English usage, and the test also contains a series of multiple choice questions from which candidates must select the one correct answer in each instance. <br> <br>I have found that many of the women with whom I have worked can pick out the correct answer from among five options, while most don’t know why their selection is the right one. Though I typically only get to work with each woman for two hours, with few exceptions, I have found that they emerge with a much improved understanding of the underlying precepts of our sometimes confusing language, better equipping them for the GED exam and whatever challenges they might face in their subsequent working environment. <br>

The Center for Faith Justice is an outstanding organization which provides opportunities to experience authentic encounters in serving others. This is my third summer working as an adult volunteer. I drove middle school aged students to, and helped them at various work sites. (I have participated for one week each summer.) <br> <br>Each week we spend our mornings fully engaged in working at one of 4 or 5 different locations serving others. For example, one morning we may go to a nursing home talking, playing games or doing crafts with aged people. Another we serve at a day camp for underprivileged students (K-8), or a pre-K program. Another we might serve at a home for disabled adults, a food bank, or weed a co-op garden which donates to local food banks. As a volunteer, I get to experience the same. Seeing young middle school students getting the feeling of what it is like to help others who are in need is quite satisfying. <br> <br>In the afternoons, the students learn about the value of their morning experiences through intellectual and kinesthetic learning activities based on well designed lesson plans. As a Christian, I am able to participate in the most important of human endeavors. That is, in helping others. <br>

The Bag Project is direct, impactful and immediate help to the most vulnerable. I highly recommend this work.

My cookie kitty recently passed away and when I broke into tears telling Lois yhe history we had, she was amazing! She comforted me and new exactly what I was looking for. On 6/3/2023 I adopted 2 of the most rambunctious yet cuddly kittens at just 11 weeks old. My cookie will forever be in my heart but these 2 babies fill the void. Thank you so much Lois for making me smile again ☺

Being a child is the most innocent phase of being a human being. Whether it is social media, school staff or some people with ignorant mindset, we have to protect the children and raise awareness among them so that they don't become bullies and can protect themselves and the upcoming generation.

I have been volunteering/advocating for HomeFront for over six years. I have grown to learn and love all of its many programs fighting homelessness, while marveling at its leaders' strength and endurance. They provide shelter, crisis management, food assistance programs, childrens education/recreational opportunities, adult education, job preperation, parenting classes, financial management classes, to name a few. The wrap-around services, along with its committed staff, create an atmosphere of education, self-discipline, goal achievement and accountability, working most importantly with never-ending compassion. I am privelaged to be a part of this great organization!
