My favorite place to volunteer is the Northern Illinois Food Bank. As a Snap volunteer, I contact people who want to know if they are eligible for food stamps. Besides the obvious rewards of knowing I help my hungry neighbors, I love the variety and challenge that comes with not knowing who is at the other end of the phone call. It could be the woman who answered the phone from her hospital bed while awaiting brain surgery. She knew she would be off work for several weeks and would need a link card to survive and heal. Or it could be the father of three who was downsized and embarrassed to be asking for help but knew his family couldn’t make it for long on his wife’s minimum wage pay. Or it could be the senior and his wife living on social security, caring for his disabled sister next door, who had used up their savings and didn’t know where else to turn. Regardless of who answers my phone call, I gladly listen to their unique story and provide all the help I can.

My wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at age 62. She had severe calf pain, muscle pain, tremors, slurred speech, frequent falls, loss of balance, and difficulty getting up from a sitting position. She was put on Sinemet for 6 months, and then Siferol was introduced and replaced the Sinemet. Neither standard treatment like B1 and high dose B12 did very little for her. We tried different supplements that didn't work, so last August, our family doctor started her on the PD-5 protocol—the best decision ever! 2 months into treatment she improved dramatically. At the end of the full treatment course, the disease is totally under control. Cases of muscle weakness, constant twitches and tremors eased. My wife has resumed her daily activities. I've been a Board member of the Geneva Academic Foundation (GAF) for about 4 years now, and, having been past Endowment Committee Chair and the current President of GAF, I've been very fortunate to work with a group of dedicated, friendly, fun and hard-working individuals who all have a key purpose for being volunteers for GAF......raising funds to help enrich the education and experiences of all Geneva District 304 students through the many Bencini Memorial Grants we give each year to teachers and schools throughout the District and the two annual scholarships we give to graduating Seniors from Geneva High School. Since the founding of the GAF in 1987, this group of dedicated people has raised and donated over $1.3M to the Geneva schools and we continue to do this by growing our relationships with the people and businesses of our community and expanding our GAF Board membership. We're always looking for people of the Geneva and surrounding area community who would like to help us in any way they can (through service on our Board, helping organize, running and participating in our various fundraising events each year or through their generous monetary donations to GAF). The education of our students and excellence of our school district is one of the foundations of our wonderful Geneva community and the GAF is a key part of making this the success that it is. I joined MCOG 6 years ago and have been involved with the organization on several levels, from co-chair to President and many things in between. I originally joined because I wanted a way to "give back" to my community. Not only have I accomplished that goal, but I have gotten back so much from MCOG. The lessons I have learned in my time with MCOG have been invaluable and the friendships made immeasurable. In addition, my kids have learned what it means to help others and have been involved in many of the MCOG events. MCOG is a fantastic organization and definitely worthy of your time!

Susan Worline has an amazing charity that she works very hard promoting and working to get partners an people to donate to this charity. This is such a wonderful charity, helping people in need at really hard times in their life. I have had the privilege of becoming friends with Susan since I met her and have so much respect for her and all the hard work and effort that she puts into making this charity a huge success.

My daughter has been a resident at Marklund for 45 years. She has received excellent care and I am so pleased with the staff. She was in a near drowning accident at 2 years old and has profound brain damage as a result. I am so grateful for the care she is receiving at Marklund.

Brave people who have stopped cruel pigeon shoots. They also help horses treated cruelly in rodeos. Kudos to them!

Myotubular Myopathy is a rare genetic disease with clinical manifestations of muscle weakness and pulmonary complications. Although there are variants, as with any condition, most children affected will never crawl or walk and will require breathing assistance due to their severe muscle weakness. <br> <br>My son, William, has the genetically confirmed diagnosis of x-linked Myotubular Myopathy. Traditionally x-linked Myotubular Myopathy was a fatal condition in infancy with a life expectancy of usually less than two years. Expected life-span appears be improving as medical technology advances. Nonetheless, it is a grim diagnosis for any parent to receive. This is why William’s family and friends have decided to actively raise funds for a cure by founding Where There’s a Will There’s a Cure. <br> <br>We humbly thank all of our generous supporters. The ELL Foundation was formed by Bob and Kathy Silverman as a result of dealing with the life threatening food allergies of their son. Like many charitiable organizations, their passion is what fuels our foundation. We have been able to create many fantastic programs that are geared toward educating schools, daycares, restaurants and parents alike so they can be armed with the knowledge necessary to combat the growing number of food allergies. Their efforts are making a difference in the world!!
