Since 1984, Leadership Kentucky has assembled diverse groups of professionals at various locations across the Commonwealth for the purpose of discussing major issues facing the state. Through these discussions and the network built by this assembly, those involved become informed and prepared to take ideas back to their communities and places of work. As a result, businesses and communities benefit individually and the Commonwealth benefits as a whole. I believe the Leadership Kentucky program is an excellent investment in Kentucky’s future. Hello, <br> <br>I don't see any other way to easily communicate with you folks on the site, except to use this form - SO, I would say that this is more of an "email" to you folks, rather than a review or story to use on the site itself. I hope that is okay. <br> <br>I am in the midst of donating a vehicle, and while researching, your organization was listed as one that another organization supports with their funds, and I was intrigued enough to take a look at your site as well. <br> <br>Let me be clear, this is not intended to...smite you for your faults, and demand that you improve etc...so much as it is intended to ask a question that you either have thought through already, or possibly encourage you to do so now. <br> <br>The question essentially is this: <br>On the site, you state that the boys you work with, must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to be a part of what you do. <br> <br>I was raised in a home that was not only economically disadvantaged, but one that around age 10 (I am 56 now) added a drunken abusive (verbally, physically, and sexually) philandering step-father who disappeared for months at a time, and then when present acted as I've described. <br> <br>Coming from that background, I have to ask you...are you not by imposing that GPA rule, overlooking a huge number of boys whose problems in school are directly reflective of the home lives they lead? I think it is great to offer support and even reward if you will, boys in bad home situations who manage already (on their own) to maintain a solid and driven school life; BUT, so many boys in these situations are unable to do that as they wrestle with anger, despair, and hopelessness....alone. <br> <br>Could not taking boys in that situation and mentoring them in these things you teach/promote be the very thing they need to begin building their self-worth, to instill hope, to provide direction and drive to become solid sturdy young men at "home" AND at school? <br> <br>As I said, I'm not self-righteous enough to think this may not have already been addressed in one fashion or another, but having come from that world myself, and having been involved in the lives of other boys (some family, some not) in the same way...when I see you presenting it as you do on the site....I have to ask. <br> <br>May God bless and direct you in all you do. <br> <br>
