My parent's physician was unaware of what actually takes place with Regional Hospice's at home and in patient services so didn't know the trauma my family would endure as a result of the referral. The internist was being brought lunches and knew the "image stories" but would never have suggested Regional had they known from the inside about the quality of services. <br><br>First and foremost what mattered was money and how much you have. We were lied to, maniupulated and ignored when calling to ask questions about decisions being made without our consent. Ultimately, it was not the patient or family that mattered but money they could take once they knew what you have. They preyed on vulnerabilities but would not answer questions about what they were doing or why.. The games that went on were appalling.<br><br>As a close friend of a man who was the Chaplain of a large Hospice in the West, I was aware of what Hospice should be and the comfort it should be providing to family members and patients. Our experience was the complete opposite. Our stress levels increased dramatically due to the nurses who came to the house and their personalities, attitudes and incompetence. How they could treat grieving people as they did was unconscionable. The social workers were in the wrong field. The administrators were complete phonies and only concerned with public relations, gettting more clients and IMAGE----ALWAYS THEIR IMAGE. I could go on about details but my message is do not believe all you see or hear about how great Regioanl Hospice is. My family is still tormented by the "help" we received and how badly we were manipulated and robbed of so many things. Honesty is vital. This entire experience, save for two lovely, compassionate nurses and three wonderful volunteers added nothing but heartache and anger to my relative's death. As if the losst wasn't bad enough---they made it worse. Hospice in name only.

Over the years, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact this organization has on at-risk youth and young adults transitioning out of the foster care system.Under the visionary leadership of its CEO, Northern Star, MPH, DHSc, Chastity Chyld Incorporated has become a vital lifeline for a population that is highly vulnerable to homelessness, unemployment, and systemic instability. Their dedicated team provides much more than just transitional housing; they offer a comprehensive safety net that empowers young individuals to heal, grow, and achieve independence.What distinguishes Chastity Chyld Incorporated is their holistic approach. By combining safe, stable housing with essential life-skills education, coaching, and mentoring, they actively guide participants toward achieving long-term personal and academic success.

I volunteered to give away bikes to Danbury kids during my first month as a Danbury Youth Services board member. Our organization has an Earn-A-Bike program in which local Danbury children learn how to fix bikes and keep one each at the end of the program. More than 100 bikes were fixed for the give-away. The number of families that lined up for a new bike really opened my eyes; handing bikes and helmets to the kids gave new meaning to my life. I learned anyone can spend time and make a positive difference in the community. Hopefully the families send kids to our programs so they can learn some tangible skills to achieve more goals.

I am in my second year of mentoring a young girl who is now in second grade. It has been so rewarding to spend time with this student and have an impact on her life. Every time I arrive, she anxiously puts her schoolbooks away and we find a quiet space, usually the library, to read together, color, do puzzles, play board games, and talk about a variety of topics. We have great conversations. I learn about her life, her favorite hobbies and subjects in school, her after-school activities, and more, and she also shows an avid interest in learning about me, as well. Mentoring is so enriching for both of us and I am pleased that there is such an organization as the Danbury Student & Business Connection that brings students and mentors together.

Richter Association for the Arts is a hidden cultural gem in Danbury CT. The house was donated by the Richter family and used for musical performances( free) indoors and outside, and visual art shows. The Richter House is under renovations but the Spring concerts, starting April 7 at 3pm will be held at the Danbury Museum on Main Street. Every Sunday a new treat, until May 26. The renovations should be completed by the Fall for the art show, where numerous artists will display their works. For details go to richterarts.org.

The Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT just erected a huge billboard which my family members find very ironic. First--the cost of it and second the slogan. We could not get our telephone messages returned, get someone to answer the telephone without a looping phone system that ended in no department or have communication we requested with the clergy or the social workers. Telephone calls were not returned. It was a farce. Our grief is compounded by our experiences with Regional Hospice and how we were treated. Our emotional and spiritual needs were ignored and the CEO's claims of Hospice being "one of the least financially burdening medical services" is not true of a facility that charges $550 per day for our custodial care and nothing more. <br> <br> Money comes first at this hospice and it is very sad that families are placed under financial strain and do not have their simple requests for the "quality of life" of their loved one met. Hospice is not about appearance and glitz and new furnishings and superficial materialism. It is, by nature, support, good communication (we would get two different scenarios presented depending on which nurse we spoke to), emotional and spiritual guidance, respect, comfort, and being treated well during the most strenuous, tragic time in a person's life. Instead we had in- home nurses who were disrespectful, lackadaisical, and bullying to us as caregivers. Our lives became far worse after dealing with this Hospice instead of better. Our stress as care giving relatives only increased. We felt further burdened not relieved. The opposite of a good Hospice program. <br> <br>Finances are first and our needs and suffering were just not considered--at least ours were not and neither were those of relatives who came from all over to visit once our relative was an in-patient.***** We were quoted one fee per day of in-patient custodial care and the price went up as soon as our family member was admitted.***** It was quite clear that our money was what mattered ---not what we wanted for our patient or what we so desperately needed to help us in our own suffering. Phone calls were not returned by social workers one of whom specialized in just staring at us. <br> <br>A Hospice service, whether in-home or in-patient should make everyone feel comfortable. We dreaded each visit from them and having them show up unannounced and behaving like they were superior ---typical "power plays'. This is not Hospice. My good friend was the Director of Clergy for a Hospice in the West. He was appalled by our experiences with Regional Hospice. We were not made to feel "at home" at the center in Danbury, CT but, then again, we were surrounded by security cameras everywhere we went. We were questioned about whether the food on the menu one fills out was for the patient or ourselves. Just rude, controlling, insulting and unnecessary. <br> <br>When I asked to speak to the Chaplain, an always highly unpleasant administrator loudly and laconically told me I was not allowed to contact him. This is Hospice "care"?They are about image, have hundreds of volunteers doing the work paid employees could do and are very good at public relations and making a name for themselves. This billboard my husband passes each day on the way to work makes him ill. Rather than a good experience...Regional Hospice was a nightmare we would rather forget.

The depth and breathe of this multi-armed ministry is surprising and significant. They serve at-risk children and adults in Danbury CT with mentoring and tutoring programs for kids, services and career development programs for the homeless and addicted, a low-cost pediatric health care center for the uninsured, a food pantry and clothing bank, and after-school and summer learning programs, and more. The eight ministries that comprise Jericho partner with 26 local churches for material and financial resources. Truly wonderful faith-based organization.

The Danbury Music Centre is an excellent organization that provides the greater Danbury area with opportunities to make music as a community.

Before joining the Board at TBICO, I attended a class graduation, giving me the opportunity to meet some of the students and their families and to learn what impact TBICO has had on their lives. To them, TBICO goes beyond the skills ... it is about preparing them and giving them the tools to be able to go on the interviews, land the jobs and be successful. Through this program, women strengthen their abilities and build self-confidence. One woman's son said to me "I finally have my mom back."

As a Board Member of Friends of Richter, (FORe), I am proud to serve in the role of fund raiser and supporter for this group. FORe is tasked with fund raising to support the Richter Park Master Plan. The master plan is a long range vision of enhancing all elements of Richter Park - the Richter house, facilities for the Musicals at Richter, the Richter Association for the Arts, tennis courts, hiking trails and the golf course. FORe raises funds though it's membership drive, an annual breakfast and a raffle. We accept donations and all donations can be designated to a specific purpose including Richter House renovations.
