African Youth Development and Health Foundation (AYDH) works in disadvantaged communities in the US and in Africa. The 'Spark of Wisdom' project is the most recent work undertaken by AYDH in the US. I will describe this project as an attempt to bridge intergenerational gap through reading, as well as foster knowledge transfer from seniors to children. The backpack project is also a brilliant intervention that supports the distribution of backpacks to disadvantaged children whose parents struggle to make this available to them. These are just two of the many interventions done by the foundation in the US.

In Africa, AYDH works on key development issues - Education and Health. Through the health program, they have been able to provide hospital, medical supplies, and trained and qualidied medical personnel in poor rural communities. With this intervention, AYDH has not only succeeded in alleviating health issues in some rural communities in Ghana, the hospital also provides employment opportunities for medical personnel who are paid by the foundation. On education, AYDH supports schools and student's with teaching and learning materials. This intervention is an incentive for teachers, and a motivation for parents to send their children to school. The provision of school supplies helps reduce financial burden on rural women and men who have to struggle to make school supplies available to their children. Schools are also able to provide minimum teaching materials to teachers through this intervention

I am extremely proud of AYDH's work in communities - touched the lives of people in communities. With continued funding AYDH will be able to do more intervention in communities in the US and in Africa.

Three reviews 16 months ago not one review since. This is not what it appears to be. I needed help..a second chance so to speak. None of that was to be had..not for me anyway. I did my research to see if this organization would be a great fIt. The website spoke of empowerment and life skills, job readiness and caring mentors whom are available to assist you with problems to include social and transportation in making and setting appointments. I thought that I'm on my way and this organization was going to help me because they really cared. None of that is true. This organization houses up to 8 residents in a run down house in a undesirable part of town. You can't just walk up and say that you're homeless. You must be referred by a primary organization and you need to be between the ages of 18-24! The "mentors" they hire come out of a pool of workers thru the local welfare office. All they do is clean clean clean and cook one meal (dinner) a day. A second meal is cooked on weekends. Monday thru Friday we needed to be out of the house by 930am and do not return until 4pm. Rat invested with rats freely running about, leaving their feces within the pots and pans and food along with black mold under the kitchen sink, holes in walls, doors that don't fit or lock and workers who are available if you wake them up. There were a few good ones while I was there...trying to make it better, but the owner always stopped any improvements they were trying to incorporate. I was told my meds were not logged in and when the worker went for intake paperwork every residents file was placed together. I asked about an ROI A RELEASE OF INFORMATION) they had no clue as to what I meant. I don't know if this is the only area that Ms Johnson operates (from her phone) regardless of its one or 10 DBH and county guidelines need to be followed and they are not at all. Place needs to be shut down. Bring in a homeless shelter that does what it promises to do. Empowerment my behind. It's only helping the ones at the top.
