Columbus Nonprofits and Charities

I’ve been a board member of Mobile for the past three years, which included the world pandemic of COVID-19. During my tenure, I have witnessed an organization that has educated individuals with disabilities through peer supports learning modules an health agencies being brought in to address the concerns that had many bound from resources available to the greater community. Their ramp program has given many access an opportunities to be a part of the greater community. This is why I rated a five star and there is great potential ahead.

This organization is doing a good job providing the local community with information on becoming more environmentally wise, active, and involved. They inform about classes, speakers, volunteer opportunities and facts.

I grew up getting help from Mrs. Walker. I can't believe she's gone now but not gone, because her works lives on in the center I see today. She's so proud of every one of you , carrying on her work to help the native community in Ohio. I think that because there are many natives that live in the ruel community maybe we can start something up for them and Southwest Ohio where I live or wherever, I'm not sure where, but somewhere they will feel welcome even if they are only part Indian and look white. Set up a genealogy section in Columbus because we want to know our history as well and expand it to the other centers sharing the information like the Latter Day Saints do. So much has been lost or stolen from us and we need to put a stop to it. We have a right to know who our great grandma's and grandpa's and aunts an uncle's are. They are dead and I understand bringing up bad memories and secrets but we have a right to know that too, please. Sorry for rambling but I love genealogy! My family got connected with a tutor through Mrs Walker and for that I thank you because if she hadn't I wouldn't know as much today as I do, and carry so many loving memories of her and the things we were involved in ,such as the Pow Wows, and crafts, Mrs. Johnson taking us swimming at Rickenbacker airport in the summer. Her daughter Carol has really made her mama so proud! Thank you, and keep doing what you're doing, especially the group to help parents and kids together. Expand on that somehow and get the kids involved in parenting classes early because they are having babies earlier and earlier when they aren't ready. Yes. Sex education even in 2ond and 3rd grade they have to know about their bodies , you can teach them earlier too. I know parents are uncomfortable with this idea but it's important so they know good touch from bad touch. They also need to know that sometimes family members do the bad touch and it's NOT ok and they should tell someone. Strangers too. It's not just stranger danger anymore. Sorry for rambling again lol. After moving to Columbus two years ago I joined the Junior League to try and find a group of women who liked volunteering and professional development as much as I do. And I found it! The Junior League has helped me gain confidence in my career and feel a better connection to the community. I have also gained a great group of girlfriends along the way. 10/10 would recommend

I'm a tenant in Mount Vernon Oh as of 2-1-19. the apartment manager has violated Landlord/tenant laws since I moved in. Most are violations of Not providing 24 hour notices. There have been MANY of those violations. <br>2 weeks ago I contacted his supervisor about this. I was told she would address that right away. The violations continue! Yesterday 4-10-19 I go to mailbox around 4Pm & find a letter from manager- New stove will be delivered TODAY between 5-6pm. I was on my way to go somewhere when I went to the mailbox after 4PM! & cancelled my plans. My apt manager supervisor was also informed 2 tenants told me that the manager told tenants who had been reported for smoking marijuana in their units- to go in their bathroom with the vent on and smoke it!. I informed her the manager had me Backdate on paperwork. Her choice to handle this is to be training the manager & maintence guy this is 4th day of their training by her for 5 days. I' got a notice this week from manager I will get notice to replace detective smoke alarm-NO Notice- maintance just showed up hours latter. I'm now in process of contacting higher up in the corp to see if they will resolve this or I need to file a law suit for not abiding by landlord /tenant laws. I'm 64 disabled senior and this is by far the worst management I've ever dealt with. I worked for collection attorneys 17 years and I know landlord/tenant laws and I will use them.

I have been volunteering with Cat Welfare ( a no kill shelter) for the past year, but I have been involved in animal rescue for 27 yrs.<br>I have to say that this is the best animal organization I have ever seen! The care and comfort of the cats is first and foremost. The staff is very knowledgeable.<br>I am so impressed with this group! And it is such a happy place, with some very happy cats!

Had a question about the website concerning an obscure reference on the auto auction portion of the site. When I called the auto auction the Agent didn't know what was meant by "gas monkey garage project". I thought it was a typo. Was then referred to Todd Regal(sp) whose call went to voice mail. So, I now call the website number for " any questions or comments and the operator sends me back to the auto auction agent who tells me he just spoke to Todd Regal who is aware that I've been referred to speak to him. Now I call the operator again and tell him he needs to connect me to someone who is responsible for the website and he rudely tells me that the agent should have been able to answer my question and that he was being very patient and kind with me, and sends me to Todd Regal's v. m., whom is V.P Marketing. So now I Google gas monkey and it's an obscure car reality show on the discovery channel that I guess I should esoterically be aware of just because I potentially want to by a car at their charity auction. One more call to the agent to explain who says,"I'm a car guy and I never heard of it." Once more the v.m. forTodd v.p. marketing who handles website content. No return call. Very unprofessional for a nonprofit whose lifeblood rellies on donations from the general public whom I'm sure very few are hotrod hipsters. No goodwill.<br><br><br><br><br><br>.<br>.

My husband (totally blind) applied for guide dog over a year ago. Since then, we have heard nothing back. Pilot refuses to contact us or return our calls. My husband has already been accepted and enrolled at Seeing Eye in NJ, yet Pilot has not even processed our application or returned an email/phone call. <br> <br>Im concerned that this is an organization only after "non profit" status and is NOT committed to its trainers, employees, or clients. We will be initiating a formal investigation following the holidays. <br> <br>After all the time and effort put into the application process, this is truly a disappointment. Michele

This review is about Charity Newsies - 108 years young and 100% for the kids. That's right - 100%. There are only a few paid employees and their salaries are paid by the dues of about 700 volunteers. All volunteers are very friendly and efficient. <br>The mission is to clothe area children for school and they clothe the needy well. Last school year over 10,000 needy children were clothed effectively for the year and the organization is always looking to do more. <br>I would give this organization 5 stars as they are always looking for ways to improve. <br>One thing's for certain. If you are looking for a place to make a charitable donation, you need look no further as your entire donation goes to the cause with no administrative costs.

The staff at Employment for Seniors are helpful, friendly, and excellent at listening and sharing resources that fit your needs. I continue to use the job list to explore available jobs in the area. Thanks for this great organization that can help you settle into a new job search mode so seamlessly. I loved the handouts I was given at my interview-they were excellent. I continue to follow links about how to use career building resources on the web. What a positive experience when you need a helping hand-way to go!

The staff and volunteers of the Legal Aid Society of Columbus (LASC) are, by far, some of the most dedicated and resourceful individuals, tirelessly working to ensure equal access to the justice system. The nature of their work makes many of their initiatives extraordinarily difficult, but LASC's staff are perhaps the best suited for the challenges they face, possessing equal parts determination and compassion. In the face of considerable budget reductions, the organization took several painful but necessary steps in order to maintain the organization in the long-term. Since those days, the organization has continued to make a considerable difference in the Columbus community.

nobody is perfect, the same goes for institutions. This museum is nice but....the staff are OK, not exceptional; the art/collection/exhibitions are OK, not comprehensive or exceptional in most cases, and can't compare to say that at Cleveland or Cincinnati. In a nutshell, it is a nice local art museum, with a good historic building and an interesting educational space, but not more than that. If you are a Columbus resident and you are passionate about art, this is ok but not anything approaching excellent as the others reviews suggest.

Having been involved with a number of non-profit organizations throughout Ohio, CHA stands out for its tremendous efforts to reduce childhood hunger. As a mother, it is painful to comprehend that there are children that are under nourished right here in our own backyard. CHA has recognized the need to support families through direct feeding programs, educational outreach, and through a number of results-driven programs that benefit children right here in Ohio. The staff is remarkable in its ability to deliver results based on the mission of this very important organization.

FLOW has been an important partner with the Ohio State University's Olentangy River Wetland Research Park. Their organization is highly regarded within the university as a rich source for local expertise; for it's excellent outreach activities and ability to engage large groups of volunteers for restoration initiatives.

The Ohio Alliance for Arts Education is known in the local, statewide, and national arts education fields as a leader in services provided and resources developed through extensive research and practice. I first encountered the Alliance as an Intern in Washington, DC, and then as a graduate student at Ohio State. Executive Director, Donna Collins' strong leadership provided me with opportunities to implement the skills I learned in graduate school, while also helping the Alliance. Now, a Board member for the last four years, I continue to be awed by the breadth and depth of services that the Alliance continues to provide for educators and students in Ohio and nationwide.

When my daughter was diagnosed with a "rare form of cancer" called neuroblastoma, our hopes and dreams for her changed drastically. Instead of hoping for typical dreams for her we simply hoped for her to enjoy each day to the fullest and of course survive. Unfortunately, our sweet girl passed away and our lives will never be the same. Fortunately, during her treatment, we found Kids 'n Kamp! Not only is the support from the staff over and above, so is the understanding and love from the other families who are all at different stages of the cancer world. Our family has taken advantage of all of their wonderful holiday parties, retreats, counseling, support groups, and of course Kamp. KNK also offers scholarships, emergency financial aid and tutoring and much more! Kids 'n Kamp maintains relationships with families throughout treatment, remission, a cure and even after a child dies. This is remarkable and unusual and our family truly appreciates that we continue to be a part of this organization. It means the world to us!

If you are looking for a charity to support, this is it. The facts are fairly simple and clear: improved academic success leads to higher graduation rates, which creates opportunity to succeed in life. CIS gets to kids before poverty, homelessness, violence, and substance abuse become barriers to learning. How? By creating RELATIONSHIPS rather than programs to reach kids. The organization works directly with school administrators, parents, and community leaders to identify children and families that may have needs beyond the scope of a normal educational experience. CIS then brings to bear existing community resources to meet those needs. These services include tutoring, mentoring, after-school programs, food, housing, clothing, leadership training, gang intervention and prevention, physical and mental health education, and substance abuse intervention, among others. CIS has a proven, quantitative track record of keeping kids in school.
