"PHAware" envisioned and developed by Steve Van Wormer, has truly had an impact worldwide on a terrible and rare disease called pulmonary hypertension. This disease took his Son Lucas's life, and Steve has committed to spending the rest of his life fighting it through his wonderful non-profit, PHAware. Steve has traveled the world creating literally hundreds of podcasts that educate, inspire and bring awareness to a disease that few of us had even heard of, until it was too late. Interviewing the world's top clinicians, investigators, patients and others in the space, then professionally editing and posting these marvelous pieces is Steve's life, and the difference he has made is worthy of emulation by all. Because of Steve and this great non-profit, physicians around the world can learn of the latest techniques and therapies for correctly diagnosing and treating this disease that robs its victims of the ability to simply breathe, something the rest of us simply take for granted.

ETM-LA continues to provide access to quality music education to under-resourced schools across LA County. The team is super dedicated, always going above and beyond to ensure that the music instruction is engaging, and culturally responsive. Their professional development for educators, artists, school leaders, and parents is top-notch.

I contacted this organization from NYS about two pups languishing in a high kill LA shelter. They were wonderful-responded immediately, pulled the dogs and found them a new home within a few weeks. Thank you to the amazing staff!

I am so proud to be affiliated with this organization whose mission is to bring EXCELLENT housing opportunities to those who struggle to provide homes in the second most expensive housing market in the US! <br>Not only do we work to provide housing, there are also after school enrichment programs for children and adult enrichment classes for family dynamics, finances, creating resumes, and assistance with taxes.

The work of this organization is invaluable and I'm always amazed how far they are able to spread donations and the transparency of their work. I highly recommend them as an organization to support.

It is important to get my new family member from a reputable rescue. Cats takes the time to know the personalities, to make sure that they are healthy, vaccinated and spayed / neutered before adoption. They are professional and care that the cats / kittens they have rescued get a good home. A pleasure to work with them.

After my baby girl died from a terminal illness I reached out to Milo's Sanctuary to donate my baby's last kitnipbox she wasn't able to enjoy. Michele was very friendly and receptive, she even took pictures, made a collage of the cats enjoying the toys, and put up a memorial. This was such an exceptional thing to do and was extremely therapeutic as we work through our grief. I can see how Milo's Sanctuary cares for cats and how they help make the world a little brighter!

The Burbank Temporary Aid Center is an organized organization. The staff members have a pleasant attitude, professional and prompt. When your homeless on the streets, it's an excellent center to shower up. All foods are up to date.

KITS is the best!!! I was introduced to KITS through a friend and fell in love with Tige and the org.

I have been involved with AWF for the past 4 or so years. I volunteer ever year at the annual Los Angeles International Womens Film Festival. The founder is my good friend.

That initial lead allowed me to dig up a lot of information on the CCSA, foundation backers, and companies complicit. Charter services (e.g. risk management, administration, etc.) is almost as big a drain on the taxpayers as lucrative charter school real estate scams. Moreover, that same former CCSA employee then launched a consulting firm, of which Ref Rodriguez's PUC schools are a client. I hope disseminating this information does major damage to the Rodriguez LAUSD campaign.

Angel Hanz for the Homeless is always there for the homeless and their animal companions. This organization is committed to helping the homeless help themselves and works tirelessly to address both short-term and long-term needs of the homeless and their animal companions. Every dollar goes to providing food, clothing, vet care and other support and resources.

Our family recently enjoyed a very dynamic presentation of the children's classic book, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt!" presented by Books Alive at Barnes and Noble in the Burbank Town Center. It was quite an engaging presentation and all of the children present (including my 21 month old son) were mesmerized with the story. They recited the story word for word in such a way to really draw the audience in. I later tried to read the story to my son in the same fashion and failed miserably! Acting is harder than it looks! But I know that he was at least able to connect with the book better because he got to see it performed live. With the African drum beat in the background (with a live drummer, of course), the story was complete! <br> <br>Members of Books Alive were very approachable, and even asked our family to record our impressions of the performance on camera, which we were happy to do! <br> <br>The program director for Barnes and Noble was quite impressed with the performance and said Books Alive will definitely be back. I hope she keeps her word and books them again!

Having an Arachnoid Cyst is like having to wear a pebble in your shoe. I tell people if they want an idea of how we live I tell them to wear that pebble for 1 hour, 1/2 a day or a month and after a while you get used to it once you take it out of your shoe. But when it's gone it's gone. <br> <br>An Arachnoid Cyst is "the brain tumor you get to live with." I hope the "get to live with" because most neurosurgeons don't. They don't recognize the importance of a spinal tap. When they did the pressure on my brain it was 100% higher than the norm and babies shouldn't be telling their mommies "I want to kill myself" by the ago of 3. <br> <br>I know my suicidal inclinations started as early as 13 as they manifested. Living with an Arachnoid Cyst AND Syringomyelia (a cyst in your spine that moves up and down and hollowing it out so your vertebrae are being popped open. It's a wonderful, painful way to die. I have been a member since 1974 when I joined as a high school student. This national organization has provided me skills and friendships that have helped me grow personally and professionally. The leadership and best practices training provided to every member in 120 chapters throughout the United States is the among the best in the non-profit and for-profit world. Information is up to the minute, well researched and immediately applicable. Assistance League chapters do more than serve the needs in our communities - Assistance League makes lasting changes than impact individuals, families and communities.

I learn such valuable life-changing things. Link is absolutely fascinating, educational, smart, and entertaining at the same time. If you want to learn unforgettable news, documentaries, music, Link is for you. I feel much more aware of and connected to the world and have a better idea what is going on from many perspectives.

This is an outstanding group of individuals that come together each year to bring about the best Los Angeles Pride season possible and somehow outdo themselves consistently. Every board member or volunteer I have come across has been excellent and kind to me. For full disclosure's sake, I was the honoree for outstanding youth leadership in 2009 and our relationship has held steady. To this day, I am still in touch with some of the members on a personal level and continue to give back when I can by being a parade judge, writing mini blogs about youth or just rounding up people to go in general. Even better than being an honoree, I was brought back next year to their special honoree brunch event and found out that because of my identifying as genderqueer, (in terms of gender) it inspired them to help make LA pride more inclusive. Traditionally, they had both a man and woman of the year, but realized that when they started to learn about different gender identities, they were not being inclusive and thus changed it to the person of the year award. They cared so much about my well-being and feeling included and would apologize if an event (as there are several) did not have a gender-neutral/unisex/family restroom for me to use. This meant more to me than the award itself (and that meant a lot!) and how they continue to tell the story about the change. Even with all of the faces they meet and all of the events they pull off, they still remember me and include me when possible. This organization has nothing but the best of intentions and I can't wait to celebrate more prides with them! I donate to Hidaki Foundation because they have a unique role, and a unique position in the heart of the entertainment capitol of the world, and they thus have a unique opportunity to make a difference in a child's life through expanding the love of music.

As a board member and co-founder of this organization in July 2009. It has been my privilege to serve and share my experiences with the children and families our Noble Kids before and after school enrichment program serve everyday. We are a CA state licensed, high quality childcare and enrichment program, providing services on public and private school campuses, for children and families of grades K through 5th grade. We are currently looking for new schools to add to our Noble Kids family within the San Fernando Valley.

This Society is an all volunteer run organization that depends completely on member donations to maintain the library and hold the largest annual West Coast-based genealogical conference. The 30,000 item collection of books, manuscripts, microfiche, and CDs is a veritable cornucopia of clues and information concerning the heritage of all who dare to visit.
