I am currently interning at Social Justice Collaborative, and I am very proud to have the opportunity to learn from and support this agency. Now more than ever, they are providing exceptional services to people who need support. I have been impressed by the systems they have in place to help clients feel safe, heard, and respected. This organization is truly committed to serving the community and advocating for those who may otherwise struggle to access resources and support. My placement has allowed me to learn from dedicated professionals while seeing firsthand the positive impact this organization has on the lives of its clients. Overall, my experience has been very positive, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of an organization that is so deeply committed to social justice and client-centered services.

Luna Dance has partnered with our preschool to pilot their TK dance program, and it has been a joy to see dance come alive in our school. Every week our TK aged group returns bursting with constructive energy and tales from the dance floor! The professionals at Luna have consistently provided high quality emergent dance curriculum – so much more than an enrichment class, Moriah uses developmentally-appropriate activities to introduce foundational dance concepts, and to celebrate the full range of an embodied human experience. I love Luna Dance!

I believe eyesight is the most precious of all of our senses, and have always marveled at how well so many of the blind adapt to this most devastating of disabilities. How much better it would be to treat blindness in its earliest stages when it may be possible to restore sight! That is what the Seva Foundation does throughout the developing world. What also impresses me is that they train native medical personnel to do the same, thus stretching their resources by enabling others to continue the good work without becoming dependent on continued foreign assistance. Seva does not inundate me with mail appeals and, while I have just begun to contribute to them, I am amazed by how quickly they send an acknowledgment of my donations.

I have two kids. When they were young both, absolutely lit up every time we visited Habitot. The moment we walked in, it felt like a secret world just for children—tucked downstairs, cozy, welcoming, and safe. The staff had this calm, playful magic that made the whole place feel like an extra set of caring hands. My kids would beeline for the water table—sleeves rolled up, giggling, building tiny dams and sending boats on “expeditions.” Then came the space suit: they’d zip in, count down, and blast off into missions with the kind of seriousness only kids can pull off. And the pretending playspace was pure gold—running a make-believe café, turning boxes into buses, teaming up with new friends from other schools. It wasn’t just busy play; it was social, imaginative, confidence-building play. We all want Habitot to come back!!

I am so impressed with this organization. Involving the local community, inspiring them to conserve their precious wildlife while giving them resources they so desperately need to both help themselves and protect the environment they live in is pure genius. Bravo, Seacology!

The Berkeley Path Wanderers nonprofit arose to take care of the fabulous resource of the Berkeley paths, which give the community convenient shortcuts to navigate on foot, beautiful historic places to exercise or relax, and also what might be the best or last option for egress in a wildfire or after a bad earthquake. The Berkeley Path Wanderers have done such a great job taking care of these paths and improving them, without spending much money, that citizens in neighboring Kensington, where I live, are trying to recreate their achievements in Kensington - which is lucky enough to have lovely historic paths too. <br><br>I have a developmentally delayed daughter who doesn’t much like taking walks on city streets, but she will go with me on the Berkeley paths because they are beautiful and provide an infinite variety of landscapes. The Path Wanderers help the city of Berkeley to maintain 136 paths on a tiny annual budget of only $50,000. It encourages locals to volunteer and get involved in their neighborhoods, inspires kids to get more exercise and learn history, and encourages a way of life that doesn’t just depend on cars.

SHARE Foundation is one of the best organizations that I have ever worked with and supported. I have seen and experienced firsthand the dedication and hard work of staff in the United States, El Salvador and Honduras. I have joined many delegations whereby our mission was to assist in the empowerment of communities, especially rural ones, to improve their lives. Our goal was to stand in solidarity with their organizational efforts.

Wonderful program ran by a wonderful generous man! Art programs are so important and they are getting pushed out so any help towards keeping our kids in art is so important!

Since joining Common Vision in December 2021, I've sadly encountered significant challenges stemming from the behavior of our Executive Director, Wanda Stewart. The emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse I've endured during this time has been incredibly difficult to navigate. Despite my efforts to address these issues with the board, it's been disheartening to see minimal progress in resolving these concerns.<br><br>In light of these ongoing challenges, I've taken steps to file a formal complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, Alameda County, and other relevant authorities. My primary goal in doing so is to prevent others from experiencing similar treatment. I am committed to providing updates as this situation progresses.<br><br>It's disappointing that my vocal expressions of concern haven't prompted the board to take decisive action. I hope that by sharing my experiences openly and online, will finally catalyze the necessary changes within the organization.<br><br><br><br><br><br><br>

If I could give less stars I would . This place is not what they say it’s for helping people. Only certain get the help and others are harassed and mistreated . I’m actually being harassed by the police and the staff here is more than happy to help them even thought they have said the police can’t come in the place of course not they have people were you are harassing you . They said the police can only come in if they have a search warrant. Liars . Then help the police by coming into my place when I’m out they go through my stuff . I have to put stuff behind my door so they can’t come in while I’m sleeping also being drugged . Nice eh . Then they say they’re going to provide you with stuff like the internet but not for someone like me . I don’t get those privileges. Nobody will give me my rights you . You can’t even defend yourself that’s how much rights you don’t have . While you on the outside. Everyone is against you . The police don’t do their job properly and you have to put up with the repercussions of that . They don’t care if they get it wrong . Oh well to bad . It’s the government of Canada harassing me . I wrote to Doug Ford the premier of Ontario he doesn’t care about my rights . He wants to hire more goons to help the keep people in line . They harass you if you speak up for yourself . By doing things like turning the heat on in your room when it’s 30 degrees outside . But do it while your sleeping . Me and this other person had the heat turned on . Then she was was given a call at 4:30 am pretending they got the wrong number just to trigger this person further . There either gaslighting you or triggering you . Wait for the winter I can see them turning off the heat while I sleep. On purpose things are done . The supervisor . Who works. For st Joseph healthcare the actually place were the harassment started . She has the nerve to make fun of me on purpose as I have to lug around my evidence . Because they can’t keep there hand to themselves. Going into my evidence and stealing it . But here I am being harassed without recourse. And there harassing me and keeping my mother in the hospital so they can harass me . Dorothy Day is more and likely rolling in her grave that a place was named after her and they treat people like dirt . This place is just to pat themselves on the back that there helping the community. During the open house the priest were ignorant. Didn’t say hi nothing disgusting treatment of people . I have been volunteering with SOAR for Youth for over 10 years, and it has been a delight to work with such Foster Youth in helping them realize their dreams. We each have created and followed an educational and career path in our lives, but for these youth that road is strewn with rocks and holes, or such a path does not even exist. SOAR provides the soft- and hard-skill building blocks and bridges that help their students beat the odds, graduate High School, go to college, and obtain a Bachelor’s or even Master’s degree. I have worked with so many of the students at SOAR via their Summer camp and special events, but have also been an Academic Advocate for ten students. In this role with SOAR, I get to work with the students one-on-one as they move through High School, apply for college and navigate all that goes with such a step. And then watch them walk the stage with diploma in hand – setting these Foster Youth up on a very different path than they otherwise would be on today. That is about having impact and the personal reward and joy it brings for being involved. - Karen Mason

I’ve worked with nonprofits for over 10 years. I have never seen the level of integrity that Alysia Montaño (founder) has for the internal infrastructure, external programs, and overall communication. Her passion and purpose for this organization are driving change in communities, legislation, and sport as a whole.

A Better Way is an incredible organization with strong leadership and passionate employees. They offer essential mental health programs and family support services including training programs for parents, caregivers and mental health professionals in the community. They are constantly looking for ways to expand and increase their service offering to support the community's needs. I am honored to be a supporter of ABW!

This organization does so much to help homeless veterans and their families. I'm so amazed at how their staff shows so much love and compassion for every family they help. They are always in the community providing resources and just trying to make a difference

Direct Action Everywhere is an international grassroots network of animal rights activists founded in 2013 in the San Francisco Bay Area. DxE uses disruptive protests and non-violent direct action tactics, such as open rescue of animals from factory farms. <br> <br>We first heard of DxE when we were searching for grassroots groups in our local area to support. We were amazed at how many groups were active not only near us but around the world, and the specific kind of direct action work they had been doing. <br> <br>We also appreciate DxE's published work on the evidence for nonviolent civil resistance (based on the work of political scientist Erica Chenoweth), among others like Doug McAdam and Duncan Watts. It's really refreshing to see an animal rights organization that revolves it's strategy and tactics around the history of social change. <br> <br>We'd also be remis to mention that DxE's activists routinely put themselves at legal risk, it's not uncommon for DxE's activists to get charged, sued, and locked up, for merely trying to rescue sick and dying animals. They routinely fight the law to gain the "right to rescue" and that's something we really find admirable of the organization and its volunteers. <br> <br>We've worked with DxE in the past and had nothing short of an incredible experience meeting up with their passionate activists and leaders in the fields. If you're interested in the work that they do we highly recommend checking them out, sharing their work, and donating if you can. <br> <br>Thank you for all the work that you do!

The SF Bay Area Is large and diverse and it’s hard to keep up with what’s going on here with the environment. <br>The Bay Area Institute keeps track for me. For example, I was out cycling on the SF Bay Trail in Richmond and noticed a fenced off marsh with an inaccessible trail. The Bay Area Institute’s latest email has an article about future development of that marsh. <br>I appreciate the work they’re doing.

I first learned about Rebuilding Together East Bay-North in 1999, when it was "Christmas in April." As a young student of Architecture and Building Science, I was eager to apply my knowledge of buildings to the many homes which were in need of repairs.<br><br>The volunteer work has been incredibly rewarding. RTEBN has allowed hundreds of income-qualified homeowners who are seniors, Veterans, and people with disabilities, remain in their homes, and live safely and comfortably. The work often saves energy and water, which means financial savings for these people as well.<br><br>Sometimes the repairs performed save lives. In the process of assessing the homes, often dangerous things are uncovered, such as electrical sparking, overloaded circuits, gas leaks, plumbing leaks that create mold, or carbon monoxide leaks that endanger the lives of the residents. RTEBN takes care of all of these emergency repairs, sometimes during the assessment itself. <br><br>RTEBN also provides a social service check during home assessments. Having qualified volunteers, who can look for signs of elder abuse, financial abuse, or other issues, makes RTEBN unique among these kinds of home repair services. This commitment of all of its staff, board members, hundreds volunteers, and corporate and community partners to an ethical, free service, ensures my continued support of this organization.

I have been a member of Golden Gate Audubon for many years and have benefited from many of their opportunities, such as field trips and travel trips with great leaders, and the enjoyable success of meeting excellent people who commit outstanding efforts to the natural world.<br><br>Another event that is so outstanding is the Speaker Series. The Speaker Series is offered the third Thursday of each month, either in Berkeley or San Francisco, and I’ve been attending the Berkeley Speaker Series (https://goldengateaudubon.org/education/speaker-series) for many years. The Speaker Series offers magnificent information, not just about bird species, but about critical efforts that facilitate our commitment to nature. GGAS is an essential organization that addresses our concerns for protecting the natural world.<br>

Hesperian is a great organization producing invaluable health guides for people around the world. When I lived in Guatemala and southern Mexico, I regularly consulted their flagship guide Where There Is No Doctor. It helped me understand my various conditions and how to get healthy and stay healthy. The guides are culturally appropriate, gender focused, and every effort is made to make them widely available and accessible. This is an organization that is very thoughtful about its mission!

This Art Deco Society Society of California is dedicated to helping preserve the beautiful art and architecture from the 1920's, 30's, and 40's. They've been involved in many projects thruout the SF Bay Area to make sure Art Deco treasures are not destroyed. There are numerous events yearly with the emphasis on dressing and socializing as people did in the Art Deco era. In today's world, where face-to-face interactions are much less frequent due to technology, this is a welcomed 'breath of fresh air'!
