Review for Day 1 Bags, Boerne, TX, USA
I learned of the opportunity to make and donate quilts to Day 1 Bags (a very odd name, by the way) on Facebook. I like giving back to my community and I like to make quilts but have no one to give quilts to. The program with Day 1 Bags seemed like the perfect marriage to two important parts of my life. It was easy to sign up and a response from the organization was timely, but follow-up communication was spotty and not necessarily informative or clear. I think that part of the problem may be an insufficient number of volunteers, especially when considering the vastness of the state of Texas. Perhaps as the work of Day 1 Bags becomes more generally known there will be more folks who would be able to volunteer, thus making the organization more dynamic and able to make a bigger impact on those they so generously serve. In spite of my 2-star rating, I have already made one quilt top for the class of 2026 and intend to make at least one more.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your honest feedback and for your generosity in creating a quilt for a foster youth. We deeply appreciate your commitment to giving back and understand that clear and consistent communication is just as important as the mission itself. You're right—we are growing rapidly, and as an all-hands-on-deck nonprofit, we sometimes face challenges keeping up with communication across such a large state. Your insight is helpful and valid, and we’re actively working to improve the volunteer experience, including enhancing follow-up and providing clarity throughout the process. Despite the hiccups, it means so much that you're still creating quilts for the Class of 2026. Your continued support directly impacts youth who often go unrecognized and reminds them they are seen and celebrated . Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your voice—and your quilts—matter.
