Review for HELPING HANDS FOR SINGLE MOMS, Glendale, AZ, USA
Helping Hands for Single Moms is quite literally a God sent! As a single mom of two getting my degree was never the right time. Holding an entry level position was a choice I made to be have the flexibility to be present for my children. I had to have the flexibility to make it to their doctors appointments, school functions and sporting events. I believe I would not be able to be as present with a higher management role. I was referred to the Helping Hands for Single Moms scholarship and quickly applied. Based on their income requirements I was a shoe in! The board of directors gave a zoom interview and told me how proud they were of me for pursing my degree. Helping Hands for Single Moms provided monthly scholarships that always seemed to come when needed. They helped with my car troubles and stayed on the phone with me while I waited for AAA to tow my vehicle. I attended monthly Single Mom College Community meetings to learn about money management, stress management and other helpful tips that single moms need. It was great to have a community of others that know exactly what struggles we go through. From providing Christmas gifts to family outing there is so much to be grateful for. Thank you to all the donors for proving the encouragement to finish our degrees. We quite literally could not have done it without you!
Review for Native Forward Scholars Fund, Albuquerque, NM, USA
As a fulltime grad student it is hard to find scholarships that are for graduate degrees. As an Indigenous scholar it is important for me to stay in our traditional ways during the research process. From buying honorariums for the knowledge keepers, gathering around food during each interview/discussion, and providing gifts to those visiting our lands can get pricy when you want to honor every person along this journey. Native Forward Scholars Fund saw the importance of my work and providing me the funding to honor the elders in my community and welcome the visitors the traditional way with plenty of food. Without the support from Native Forward Scholars Fund I would not have had the opportunity to expand my pool of participants, gather multiple times and create lasting connections throughout the community. I am forever grateful for the donors that allowed me to continue my work in my tribal nation. Thank you! Sape!
