Review for Project Sweet Peas, Warwick, RI, USA
I am writing to express my gratitude for the collaboration we have built with Project Sweet Peas at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Our Nurse Manager, Marianne, reached out to the organization approximately two years ago expressing our interest in learning more about what Project Sweet Peas offered. Corin learned about our NICU at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, located in the heart of Queens as a Safety Net Hospital. Our clients are diverse in their ethnicity, race and education. Regardless, when a baby is admitted to the NICU or if there is a neonatal/pregnancy loss, it is a traumatic and frightening time.
Project Sweet Peas has assisted us in promoting a family-centered care environment. They have donated numerous outfits for our "preemie" babies, educational material, activity seats that sway and move from side to side. Our premature babies that have spent a considerable amount of time in the NICU have a "graduation" on the day of discharge. This is an event where the family and staff are elated and celebrate with a parade in a graduation cap and sash. I cannot express how special this event is for all!
If there is a neonatal loss, cherished memories and keepsakes are kept in a special memory box from Project Sweet Peas. I am certain families open this box and cherish the memories within.
Thank you to Corin (she is amazing, beyond words) and the team for the generosity and support of Project Sweet Peas. They definitely make a huge difference in the lives of our families. I know firsthand how difficult it is to leave a baby in the NICU after birth. They are making a difficult time much easier with their caring, generous commitment and service to the NICU babies and their families.
Fondly,
Maria
