Review for The Tipi Raisers, Erie, CO, USA
I never heard of Tipi Raisers until summer 2024 when I attended my first Nagi Circle. I was interested in learning more about the Pine Ridge reservation -- and the executive director gave me his time to help me learn. I appreciated that.
I helped by taking a load of food to the Pine Ridge in September and then I coordinated a food/gift drive at a local school. The executives director helped me with both efforts. The organization is also very open to letting volunteers visit with their herd of horses. The horses also act as teachers by visiting schools and groups to educate the public about Native American history/culture and reservation life.
The organization helps the Lakota of the Pine Ridge as well as the Navajo and Hopi in the southwest. They also assist tribal members who live in urban areas. They bring truckloads of food and firewood to the people on the reservations. All those reservations are food deserts. Poverty is the norm. People live in substandard homes. The Tipi Raisers offers hope.
