Just got back from a service trip to the Navaho and Hopi reservations. The work was fulfilling, and the people were very welcoming.

I have worked with this organization for about six years. Part of this was helping to collect and deliver badly needed food and firewood to the Lakota Pine Ridge reservation. Another part was doing construction work on Lakota, Navaho, and Hopi reservations. This organization works closely with the indigenous people and is guided by their needs. Because of my participation, I have gotten to know several of the indigenous people very well. I highly recommend this organization.
My recent trip to the Hopi-Navajo reservation was everything I hoped it would be, and more. Dave had all the projects organized and ready to go the first day. The group of volunteers was amazing—we found our people. Everyone worked hard but also lots of laughter and sharing and becoming friends and family—nothing happened unless everyone was present. Plenty of food as we shared cooking and dish duty. My favorite part was the circle at the end of the day where we expressed our thoughts and prayers. So much work to be done—I look forward to my next service trip with The Tipi Raisers.
Had an amazing experience. Made so many awesome memories and I felt like I did so much work. I never felt closer to a GoPro of people I just meet.
I spent March 16-21, 2025 with Tipi Raisers at the Hopi/Navajo Reservation in AZ. Dave and Mackenzie are such an organized team.
There are 8 of us from our church, 13 from a school and various other volunteers . All of us got along so well with one another even though our ages ranged from 14 to 90 ! It was indeed a fabulous week of mission work !
This experience was AMAZING! Words cannot express how much fun I had. The community is amazing, and the leaders are so much fun and so hard working. I really really can’t come to explain how great this trip was!
I had the opportunity to spend an amazing week on a trip with The Tipi Raisers. It was a week of personal growth and introspection as I worked along side a multigenerational group of volunteers, most of whom I had never met before, yet when we parted they all felt like friends. We served and got to meet many Hopi and Navajo people with incredible stories to tell and perspectives to share. The most challenging part of the experience for me was the accommodations because I am not a roughing it kind of a person. However, the accommodations are a part of the experience when you take a step back and think about how so many of the people we were there to learn from and serve live in similar or worse conditions every single day. Overall, Dave and Mackenzie do an amazing job creating a meaningful experience for all. They are humble, caring people who give so much and wisely use every penny of the donations they receive.
I had a great time on this trip! It was so meaningful to me. I met some wonderful amazing friends and can’t wait to come back. This trip of what you make of it. If you have a positive mindset you will have a great time. It touched my heart in ways that I can’t even describe. For our school, this was BY FAR the best trip I have had. I laughed and made so many connections. Dave, thank you so much for what you are doing for the people. You are absolutely right, we need to help people. We were placed on this earth to help and support others. We were made to bring people up and not push them down. Doing this so young has given me a new perspective on life. I am beyond grateful for everything you are doing. Thank you thank you thank you!
I have been on numerous service trips, each of which have been great, but tipi raisers truly changed my view on life. The genuine connections they promote with locals make the experience and elevate the service we do.
This organization is AMAZING!! The leaders are nothing but incredibly kind, hard working, and foster such a good program. I was here working for a week and there wasn’t a moment where I wasn’t so grateful to be there with that group of people and it’s all the way that the program is curated . They create such wonderful connections to the locals which furthers the experience. I can’t wait to volunteer with them again and keep in touch with everyone. Absolutely consider coming to tipi raisers and have one of the most life altering experiences ever.
Welcoming, service focused, professional, respectful and fun! The Tipi Raisers understand the work they are embracing and translate their passion into leadership driven work days that are life changing for participants! My experience was eye opening, thought provoking, heart wrenching and joy filled. The strangers I shared my experiences with (both participants and people we were supporting) became friends and “family”. This organization lives into the belief that “we are all connected “!
This organization is truly incredible and I’m honored to volunteer with the Tipi Raiders. They work very closely with the people they serve so as to be partners and truly understand the needs, people and culture of the communities they serve. I personally mostly work with the horses and they are very loved and well cared for!
I volunteered for the Tipi Raisers with a program through the Colorado School of Mines, where I go to school. It was a wonderful experience with amazing people! The message they send is so important and I hope to volunteer more with them in the future.
I began volunteering with the Tipi Raiders after responding to a post asking for food donations over 5 years ago. I was immediately drawn to the people and their mission. Everyone has such a wonderful heart for what we do. They help with very real immediate needs such as food insecurity and firewood, repairs on homes, but the thing I think will have the biggest long term impact is wording with the youth and also building bridges between our cultures and building ongoing relationships.
I went on a service project trip to Dine and Hopi lands, and I was blown away by the way the Tipi Raisers group had youth age 10 all the way to elders of 70+ years old working together. The work was satisfying on a deep level helping to distribute food, build roofs and chop wood for elders. The interpersonal element was also lovely connecting across cultures was a true gift for all involved. I’d recommend tipi raisers trips and will be attending again in 2025.
I never heard of Tipi Raisers until summer 2024 when I attended my first Nagi Circle. I was interested in learning more about the Pine Ridge reservation -- and the executive director gave me his time to help me learn. I appreciated that.
I helped by taking a load of food to the Pine Ridge in September and then I coordinated a food/gift drive at a local school. The executives director helped me with both efforts. The organization is also very open to letting volunteers visit with their herd of horses. The horses also act as teachers by visiting schools and groups to educate the public about Native American history/culture and reservation life.
The organization helps the Lakota of the Pine Ridge as well as the Navajo and Hopi in the southwest. They also assist tribal members who live in urban areas. They bring truckloads of food and firewood to the people on the reservations. All those reservations are food deserts. Poverty is the norm. People live in substandard homes. The Tipi Raisers offers hope.
An absolutely incredible organization. The experiences I have had with them are like nothing else. Not only are they rewarding, they are built in long term reciprocal relationships . Weather it's working with horses, planting gardens with people short of fresh food, cultural sharing or helping bring Buffalo back to reservations, the Tipi Raisers deserve all our suport.
Our family first worked with Tipi racers on a trip to the Lakota reservation in South Dakota six years ago. Every year since then we have made trips to South Dakota or Arizona to the Hopi reservation with Dave and McKenzie. We also have been active at their site in Colorado wrapping Christmas presents chopping wood and doing whatever we could to help. This is a first class operation and we’ve worked to spread the word with our friends to contribute and participate. There are many organizations to work with but Tipi Raisers is at the top of our list. We would recommend them without question.
My family and I started volunteering with Tipi Raisers after being introduced to the nonprofit by my kids’ school. It’s a wonderful organization, doing important work. We are so grateful to be involved. Every time we go out to headquarters we’re greeted with kindness and respect and find real sense of community out there.
I was introduced to The Tipi Raisers by a friend and his church 4 or 5 years ago and I have been as involved as I can since then, including many work trips to Pine Ridge, Navajo and Hopi reservations to build and repair homes and other structures, cut and deliver firewood, , and a variety of service and cultural events. The Tipi Raisers is an organization that provides a wide variety of assistance to people in need in these Native communities but emphasizes above all the importance of building relationships and understanding between the people of Native and Nonnative communities.

My family and I have been volunteering with The Tipi Raisers for a few years now, including work trips to Pine Ridge in SD and Navajo/Hopi nations in AZ. What impresses us about their mission is that they value making connections between the different communities as much as if not more than the work they do or the goods they provide.
Initially, we as a family did not know what to expect from Tipi Raisers. However, when we joined Navajo Gospel Mission to volunteer, I have never seen such a hard-working dedicated group of volunteers. Everybody was hardworking, kind and considerate. Because of this ambience, it was no surprise that my wife and two high school kids were working harder with enthusiasm and grace. Also, being able to see the Hopi Butterfly Dance in person was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Dave is a charismatic leader; Mackenzie is awesome; and we will likely come back as a family.
We LOVE Tipi Raisers!!! Our organization, National Community Church, has been working with Dave and the team for the last three years and have had wonderful experiences with them. I appreciate their passion for seeing justice and reparations given to those living on reservations. Big high-five to Tipi Raisers for doin the work to cultivate relationships and trust by returning to the underserved communities year after year.
Tipi Raisers is the real deal! The staff and many volunteers have so much heart and experience working and partnering with the native communities to improve conditions and honoring native culture and traditions. Over the past few years, I realized how ignorant I was on the complex history of indigenous people in the US and the extent of the harm and trauma that they suffered for centuries and the longterm impact. I wanted to hear their stories, and learn more about native culture and wisdom. Through Tipi Raisers, I was able to contribute to meaningful projects and most importantly, connect with the locals on the Hopi and Navajo reservations. I am truly humbled and thankful. I look forward to following Tipi Raisers' great work and programs and to continue to support their mission!
What an absolutely incredible organization!!!! I had the opportunity to join them in their work w the Navajo and Hopi communities in Arizona. Their positive ethos and values were contagious to our entire group and overflowed to all those around us. And it’s more about people and relationships than the work itself, but we did do a lot of great work. Could not recommend enough. I am changed for the better forever
This short review may not be enough to describe the profound week we spent serving alongside Tipi Raisers. The staff have established a true community of service and love. The gratitude from indigenous peoples is palpable, and their hospitality and trust for the Tipi Raisers team is a testament to the incredible work being done here. I would highly recommend serving with them if you're interested in getting closer to and serving this beautiful place and people.
Having moved to Colorado in 2021 and soon to retirement, I sought out some way I could give back, serve others but most importantly, learn indigenous wisdom more deeply. Started working with The Tipi Raisers since October 2023, mainly at their hub facility in Lafayette, CO. But last month was different.
I signed up for the 5 days of service projects that they organized on both the Hopi and Dine (Navajo) reservations in the vast desert of northern Arizona.
Our group from Colorado joined another group (UP) from the northeast US and about 30 of us worked together on 8 projects. My main role was sawyer, using chain saw to size logs of fallen cedar, cutting about 3 cords for an amazing Dine elder; planted seedlings on both reservations; and finished on the last work day helping employees of town of Walpi, who showed us how they harvest firewood in the wild.
My favorite part is that we begin and end each day in a circle and share of ourselves. I give thanks to the Creator every day to have found The Tipi Raisers non-profit at this point in my life. Mitakuye Oasin.
Eight persons from two different churches went to the Navajo Hopi Reservations in Arizona in March for a week. We worked for the Tipi Raisers organization helping to repair old buildings that were in some cases hundreds of years old., and in other cases building a shed to store Navajo corn. Tipi Raisers fed us well, and we all exchanged our experiences each evening. There were twenty persons from all parts of the country, all with a common goal to improve the lives of the people on the reservation. Tipi Raisers is an outstanding Christian organization.
I've been volunteering with Tipi Raisers since 2018, 2 or 3 times a year, except for during covid, when we would go once or twice, depending on the conditions on the Pine Ridge reservation, which was our primary destination in those days. Dave Ventimiglia is a powerful, compassionate leader, who helps sensitize non-indigenous volunteers to the concerns of the Native American communities that we work in. I feel like I've grown with every work trip we've done. I've gradually gotten to know several of the Lakota Sioux people we work with, both adults in their 50s and 3 or 4 Young people, Who I originally met when they were in their teens, and who I've watched grow up since then. I've also bonded with several other volunteers who I've gotten to know over the years, both while we're on the reservation and after we've returned to Boulder. Those have been very valuable friendships.
Fabulous experience with the Tipi Raisers! Whether it is going on a service trip to one of the Native American Reservations or working off of their home base in Colorado, their primary focus is always on building relationships. The Tipi Raisers operate on the basis of Mitakuye Oyasin= We are all related. Volunteering with the Tipi Raisers fills my heart and the heart of many others whether they are volunteering or receiving service. They embody the true meaning of Community.I highly recommend joining the team!
Tipi Raisers are an ethical and responsible group who follow through on commitments and respect their donors and recipients.
Absolutely amazing experience! The Tipi Raisers nonprofit is making a difference. The projects they take on positively impact the beneficiaries and those who serve as volunteers. The Tipi Raisers staff are organized, flexible, supportive, positive, and fun. I have been on two service trips with them and will be doing more.
This is an amazing nonprofit. Well run, excellent leadership, and powerful impact. Their team is supportive and engaging to all. They are authentic and humble and continually strive to examine how they can have the most positive impact. Our team of volunteers had a great experience and will be back.
Amazing experience! I have joined them on two occasions and I loved this organization that I came back for a second time. I learned a lot about the indigenous people and their cultures. I was so thankful for their hard work and to connect me to them. Love you all.
The tipi raisers gave me a wonderful opportunity to get exposed to the Hopi and Navaho cultures and meet so many wonderful people. Tipi Raisers leadership did a wonderful job preparing for our mission team and organizing several projects that our hosts so desperately needed to be accomplished. I truly look forward to participating in this mission project next year.
A great experience! The crew was great. There was always something to do and projects for all skill levels.
I met so many great people and had such a fun time! 10/10.
The Tipi Raisers were a phenomenal team to experience the Hopi & Navajo Nations with. They created the most impactful, phenomenal, meaningful experience. It's been transformative. I highly recommend this volunteer service trip for anyone who has a passion for helping Indigenous communities. 10 stars!
A fantastic group of people who seem committed to educating others about Lakhota culture and language. They accommodate for a variety of learning methods (visual, audial/ oral, written) to help instruct and they have been very patient and open-minded while working with "students" from a variety of backgrounds and personalities.
The Tipi Raisers have helped me to feel personally invested in learning more about the Lakhota people, as well as "thinking Lakhota" and "living Lakhota". I felt intimidated when first joining the language classes but the facilitators have been kind, patient, and encouraging of an atmosphere of participation and genuine connection.
Ever changing situations in the past year but the goals of The Tipi Raisers remain steadfast. I’m always impressed with the variety of opportunities to connect, reconcile, learn and help. Recently we participated in a prayer walk from the Sand Creek Massacre site to the base of Mt. Evans. This was in support of changing the name of Mt. Evans as part of recognizing the past and working toward healing. The two days of walking plus the opening and closing ceremonies will stay close to my heart.
Amazing non profit that applies best practices to serve, advocate and honor our Native Indian American communities while procuring reconciliation and peacemaking. Great staff and great environment to volunteer!
I am happy to be a part of such a generous organization, as a student in the Lakota class this is my second year with you all and have learned great things by coming to this class and meeting new relatives. The networking is phenomenal and have made lots of connections. Thank you, Tipi Raisers, for all you do.
Zoom Lakota language class is great, well paced, informative.
Rare if not only opportunity for outsiders to learn Lakhota language.
Additionally this is not just language class , but also allows to ask questions about culture, history and current situation of Lakhota People. This makes it truly priceless
Great class tolearn language and culture. I'm really enjoying people, teachers and teachings. Thank to all working to support Lakota culture and language.
Lakholiya woglake kin lila cante wastelo na lila woksape gluha yelo. Lakholiya wounspe kin lila oowayan waste' lo. (It's an awesome class ;) )
I have been taking the Lakota Language class for a few years now and really appreciate the way that they include some native speakers who share cultural insights as well as teaching the basics of the language. The online zoom platform allows people from many places to join and this adds to the fun of the class. So we are not just leaning a language, we are connecting with the culture of the people who share their daily struggles as well.
The Tipi Raisers Work Hard. I volunteered to help refurbish a burned out home of an elder. Dorothy's burned out home needed major repair. They say the building builds the builder. As volunteers, we tore out and built a new living area, from roof to floor. And, we also built relationships, bridged perceived differences, had the sacred at our side at all times. I am deeply honored to have been invited into Dorothy's home and to work side by side with her, her daughters and the beautiful composite of volunteers from many traditions and homelands. The vision of Raising Tipis is really a vision of raising relations, inclusive of all, bringing people from many different walks of life together to create together building a life together. I'm proud of the work we did in just one week and I'm very impressed by the leadership and the divine help received from the wisdom holders that inspired and encouraged everyone. All My Relations, Deanna Jenné
Great organization with their hearts in the right place. Focused on building relationships through housing support, and trying hard to do it the right way. Super easy to work with, and just a great team.
I was rendered speechless by the group experience at Second Mesa, Arizona with the Hopi Tribe and the Tipi Raisers. The team assisted an elder with rehabilitating her home and it was heart warming. The group was friendly, efficient, kind, and organized. I really enjoyed the circle at the end of the night to process the day. I would surely come again and be a part of a group with the Tipi Raisers. I learned so much and was encouraged to do more good in the world. Kudos to Dave and his team.
Where can one even begin when discussing the amazing work and outreach that this organization does and accomplishes! I had the opportunity to visit the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation on an educational and service trip through my university. The Tipi Raisers welcomed us with open arms and helped us to learn and work in the community in a manner that was positive and impactful for the people and did not dishonor their rich culture or dignity. Getting the opportunity to be humbled and to simply listen to the stories and history of the Lakota people truly put perspective into my life and was a great honor that no suburban guy like myself truly deserves but I was humbled to be apart of! The Tipi Raisers is a one of a kind nonproft that positively impacts the lives of both Native Americans and promotes their dignity, respect, rights, and needs in a way that truly builds the community and offers real results and effective change! I am forever grateful for this organization and I will continue to support all they do!
I volunteered with the Tipi Raisers for a week during spring break my junior year of college. It was an incredible experience but more importantly, immensely heartwarming to see how close members of the Tipi Raisers were with the families they were assisting. The work being done by this organization is truly exceptional.
I went to Pine Ridge with Tipi Raiders for the first time in 2019 during my spring break and returned the following year with some of the same friends in March 2020 (right before lockdowns). I can honestly say that the work that Tipi Raiders does is so important and so necessary. One of the things I love most about Tipi Raisers is that they partner with the community and incorporate community members into plans and projects. It is not outsiders coming to “fix things” it is a relationship with the community that wants to foster reparation and bridge between cultures to create an understanding of the culture, history, brokenness (created by colonizers and those lasting effects). I learned so much from hearing tribal members speak and working alongside them during my trips. I created lasting friendships and developed an appreciation for a culture I never would have known about and also built deponer friendships with the people i served alongside. If I could give this nonprofit 10 stars I would.
This is an incredible organization. I had two opportunities to work with Tipi Raisers in 2019 and 2020, and was able to see the profound impact the organization has on its community on the pine ridge reservation. The people here are passionate about educating the public on the history of US relations with native Americans, and they also produce a lot of good via their work crews on the reservation. These are good people and I would highly recommend working with them.
I was involved with a week long service trip to Pine Ridge with the Tipi Raisers and it was an experience I will carry with me for life. I met amazing people and was exposed to the trials they experience. It gave me the opportunity to get involved and learn how I can be a better advocate for others.
Too! too! Ti Ikciya Pa Slata Pi lila wastewalaka. ( Lakhota ) / Yes!, yes! I really love the Tipi Raisers. My name is Reuben Fast Horse and I have worked with the Tipi Raisers for six years on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and off Reservation. Dave , Lori Shayna, Ce Ce and Adam are a family that have devoted themselves to their Non Profit and the Lakhota Oyate, the Lakhota Nation. They Not only reach my People but to other nations of the UTE and Navajo. I spoke three times at the United Nations 2019 The Year of the Indigenous People's Languages addressing the plight of Native Americans, Native Canadians and Native HIspanic peoples. The Tipi Raisers are one if not the only Non Profits that address Indigenous people. They are first on hand to provide aide, comfort, reconciliation, support and healing by putting themselves on the front line by addressing pressing issues to all Tribal Councils. Unbeknowst to many in our American History......There are many Native Americans who Helped Non Native people through out history and there those Non Native Americans who helped Native Americans even today. Tipi Raisers is formittable and spearheads the fight against Poverty and the Forgotten people of this country....Our Country the Lakhota, the Native American Nations. It is powerful to help others across America and around the World but please don't forget what is in your back Yard, America, The NATIVE AMERICAN. TOO, TOO ( DOO, DOO ) / Yes, Yes. MITAKUYE OYASIN / WE ARE ALL RELATED.
TOKA HWO MY PEOPLE , I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE TIPI RAISERS FOR THE THINGS THEY DONE TO OUR COMMUNITY ( WOUNDED KNEE ) ESPECIALLY HELPING MY ELDERS AND MAKING XMAS HAPPEN FOR MY COMMUNITY CHILDREN AND PEOPLE , IT HELPED ME AS A LAKOTA MAN TO SHOW MY CHILDREN THE SUSTAINABILITY AMONG THE LAND SUCH AS A GARDEN ,ALSO IT GIVES MY PEOPLE THE CHANCE TO HELP THEIR COMMUNITY AND BE PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL AMONG THEIR HEARTS ESPECIALLY THEIR SPIRIT WITH ALL THE SMILES THAT COME TO HELP AND MAKE THEIR HEARTFUL EFFORTS FOR MY BEAUTIFUL LAKOTA PEOPLE ! THE TIPI RAISERS BROUGHT MY ELDERS THE HOPE OF THEIR NEEDS AMONG THE STRUGGLES WE SUFFER EVERYDAY AS LAKOTA PEOPLE , THE VOLUNTEERS BRING THE SPIRIT ALIVE AMONG MY CHILDREN WITH THEIR KINDNESS AND THEIR SPIRIT , HOKA HEY !
My sister had described her experience with the Tipi Raisers as one that had deeply enriched her life, and I was able to discover that for myself in November of 2019 when I accompanied her to Pine Ridge. Everyone within the organization, whether a volunteer or member of the Lakota Tribe, welcomed me with unforgettable kindness. Simply being there, allowing the natural connection between all people (and animals!) to take place, was one that filled my heart with a new appreciation for all we share. The Tipi Raisers do work that enhances the lives of both indigenous and non-indigenous people, lifting both to a place where connection is made possible again. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something so special and sacred.
I am so grateful to the Tipi Raisers for providing me the opportunity to connect, serve and donate to the people of the Pine Ridge reservation. As an American I have always longed to connect with our Native people and the Tipi Raisers are an incredible and trustworthy non profit that have been serving this community for over 20 years. Thank you Tipi Raisers for giving me a way to support positive work in this community. Forever Grateful! Keep up the good work!
Over the last three years I’ve had several opportunities to volunteer with The Tipi Raisers. The trips to Pine Ridge Reservation allowed me to actively help people with needed projects around food and housing, honor Indigenous wisdom, and work toward reconciliation around our shared native/non-native history. I’ve experienced person growth and seen the value of the continued, collaborative work being done, including the Gen7 group that is providing lots of opportunity for all our youth. Thank you to all who make this happen.
We've had the opportunity to participate in two trips with Tipi raisers. Both were absolutely transformational for our family! I was grateful we were able to get to know some of the community members while working on our projects and also to be able to participate in local ceremonies. I appreciated how intentional Dave was to create the space for our group to process the experience and for his compassion and kindness.
The Tipi Raisers is truly and wonderful organization. I have never felt a warmer sense of community then when working with this group. We started helping them out on the Lakota Ride 2019 through my daughter's Pony Club. Dave and Lori are two of the kindest, most loving people I have ever met and their appreciation is both honest and truly heartfelt. I moved into the helping the group in an administrative capacity recently, and was met with the same passion for the organization , kindness and support throughout. I would work with them again in a heart beat.
I learned about Tipi Raisers in high school from a friend. As soon as I went on my first volunteer trip from Colorado up to Pine Ridge, I saw firsthand the power of people coming together and working for a common goal. A big part of the Tipi Raisers is the work aspect that brings much needed supplies to individuals and families in Pine Ridge. An equally important part is the time spent with the other volunteers from Pine Ridge, and across the country. The relationships that are formed and the learning that happens can create deep healing. I’ve experienced this firsthand, and feel so fulfilled every moment spent volunteering with the Tipi Raisers.
I'm an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Nation (Oglala Sioux Tribe). I was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
in the summer of 2018 I met Mr. Dave Ventimigilia-Tipi Raisers at a meeting held by the OST Vice-President Darla Black.
It was very interesting and from the visit a spark grew from Tipi Raisers and my family. I enjoyed the sincere and dedicated work they provided for many of our peoples families. I enjoy volunteering for the many groups that Tipi Raisers brought in...I met many sincere people across the Country who came to lend a helping hand but most importantly the opportunity for many of our own Tribal members to be employed and repair much needed homes the best they could. I've seen the hope it gave to our young to hold a job and to look forward to something positive...not only in the work force but also through the GEN-7 Youth Program. the opportunity to connect with other cultures and Nationalities, to become one in unity...mankind!
I've seen Tipi Raisers take in our people and work hard together by all sharing their experiences and skills among each other.
Most importantly, I have seen lasting friendships grow between many of our people and those visiting!!
In the 2 years that I have known Tipi Raisers Staff and Dave I have felt like our friendship has been a lifetime!! I wished my husband had met this fine group.
Thank you to the Tipi Raisers for dedicating many many years to our people...never giving up when odds were against you, always believing in honesty and truth.

It was the positive energy of my dirty, bruised and exhausted daughter who returned from a four day volunteer experience on Pine Ridge the week before Thanksgiving that got me involved and hooked with volunteering for the Tipi Raisers. Five years later and dozens of trips to Pine Ridge have filled my soul with cultural enriching experiences and the soul lifting joy of helping others. It is a blessing to be part of something bigger then myself. No matter what brings me to the Reservation regardless of what aches my muscles, sores my back and dirties my hands the work is honest, the appreciation is genuine and the relationships are authentic and true.

It is so easy for me to push aside my awareness of my unearned privilege. And I know that human civility requires us to be aware. Four years ago my then 15 year old daughter joined the Tipi Raisers for a trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation the week before Thanksgiving. When she returned she shared her experience on the Pine Ridge Reservation while our family enjoyed the traditional Thanksgiving meal. My daughter introduced us to several Lakota traditions such as smudging with sage and the spirit plate. This added authenticity to our Thanksgiving meal. I was intrigued and consequently I joined her when she returned to the Reservation on spring break. The work was honest and true and the experience was transformational. I met many Natives and forged valued relationships. I have returned to Pine Ridge nearly a dozen time since. The "Rez" is a tough and difficult place. The poverty is thick and heavy. The work is hard, honest and true. From the Lakota people I find appreciation but mostly grace. On the "Rez" I look into myself, I become aware of my history and how my cultural history of colonisation is culpable for the "present" of the indigenous people of this country. I become aware of my unearned privilege. I become aware of the consequences of history. From the Lakota people I discover the richness of their culture but mostly I experience the fullness of their Grace. The staff of the Tipi Raisers do a fantastic job facilitating a growth experience and rich relationships.

Even during the pandemic, The Tipi Raisers continue to make progress towards reconciliation. The continue to amaze me. They are generous, dedicated, and focused.

I found out about The Tipi Raisers organization less than a year ago. Since then I have volunteered in Pine Ridge 3 times and supported their annual Lakota Ride. I have been helping to provide cut firewood for elders and have been helping to build a home. The Tipi Raisers Org has changed my life. They continue to teach me the Lakota way, they continue to help me grow personally and spiritually, and they introduced me to an amzing Lakota family. I cannot say enough great things about this organization or about the Lakota families we are helping.
Worked at the Pine Ridge reservation for a three-day service weekend in November, 2019. We were divided into three person groups. We helped put new siding and or drywall onto homes that had been severely damaged in a big Windstorm two years earlier. We were taught construction techniques and supervised by two young people from the reservation, who were very patient and had many entertaining stories and jokes. It was a wonderful, satisfying trip for all of us.
This Spring, I had the opportunity, along with some other folks, to take a truck load of bedding plants to the Pine Ridge Reservation, in order to begin gardens which in turn, would bring fresh, nutritious food to folks there.
I have made other trips, helping to bring much needed supplies, and I always love doing these trips, because at the end of it, there are such loving, resilient people there to recieve me and make me a part of what is happening in all its variation and complexity. Tipi Raisers is one non profit that holds my attention and generosity because it is so person oriented and provides such worthwhile connections....human to human!
This week was one of the best weeks I’ve had in a while. It’s so hard to put into words how much this place and the people mean to me, but here is a little bit of what I have learned while traveling to Pine Ridge, South Dakota for the first time during my spring break. Pine Ridge is filled with people with so much faith, a community that builds each other up and treats each other like family, beautiful starry skies that can make you feel so at peace, sites such as the Badlands that can make you feel so small and appreciative of how much more God has created on this earth, places such as Wounded Knee that reminds you of the pain that the Lakota people have endured, but have grown even stronger with and continue to face their challenges head on like the buffalos that they depict so lovingly in cultural drawings and paintings because of their strong hearts. Life is a little different on the reservation, and for this I am so thankful for these experiences. We worked hard with some of the most hardworking families, we rode on top of horse trailers, we rode horses in the fields while it was snowing, we focused on prayer while breathing in extreme heat in Inipi, and we ended each day by reflecting together in a circle, where everyone’s opinions and beliefs are valued equally. I came into this trip with zero expectations, and I left with a new connection to a place where I learned so much from a group of people with the most hopeful hearts. Mitakuye oasin.
My name is Grace Coalson and I am a junior at the University of Georgia. I had the privilege of making my second trip to Pine Ridge this March to help serve alongside The Tipi Raisers. The people we met were likely the most amazing people I have ever met and played a big part in my decision to come back a second time. They are so kind and open to us and they were so willing to share so many things about themselves. Many of these people we had the pleasure of working alongside with. In my latest trip, we helped re-side a house, take measurements and make plans to begin construction of a ramp, and deliver wood to people’s homes. Each of these things came with their own challenges and rewards. To experience Pine Ridge and it’s people is to love them. I hope to be able to return very soon.
This organization is built by people who deeply care and center human relationships, in order to work with others to make change happen that is relevant for those most affected. There are many ways to think about "service" and "supporting other communities", which can often distract us from taking time to be in space with others, because we think "efficiency" matters most to make change. This group will show you differently.
Tipi Raisers has been a force in my family's life for several years. They have provided opportunities to gain insight and perspective into the lives and struggles of the indigenous people of Pine Ridge South Dakota. They attempt to achieve their goal of reconciliation with great patience, persistence , and resolve. They improve the lives of those they touch both native and non-native.
My daughter got interested in The Tipi Raisers almost 6 years ago while still in High School. What we didn't foresee was how it would call to our entire family.
We began with just a few local events and drives -- gathering of toys and footwear -- but it wasn't long before we felt called to visit Pine Ridge with the group and meet the people on their terms, on their ground. The experience clinched our relationship. We were moved by all of the people we met. The efforts made to connect non-Natives with Natives were sensitive and transforming. There is an intimacy to this non-profit that is hard to find anywhere else. It has a family-feel where accessibility, approachability and transparency are paramount.
On their website, they describe their reconciliation work:
This is complex work with no agreed upon definitions. It is wrought with generations of trauma from broken treaties, attempted genocide, overt racism and white guilt. We approach it with humility, curiosity and a deeply held conviction to get it right over time. Mistakes are made, misunderstandings happen. For our volunteers, where is their white privilege showing? For the Lakota, where are assumptions of prejudice or racism?
How beautiful is that?! This sort of exercise is sorely under-used and long overdue. I am grateful for this safe space to explore relationships that are difficult and complicated. Who doesn't need transformation in this way?
Lori and Dave do a fantastic job connecting the community to the resources all around them. They go out of their way to make sure everyone coming on their adventures are well prepared, feel connected, and are able to "turn off" their daily lives to connect with other people in an intimate and real way. It is beautiful to see a nonprofit care so much about making meaningful change in the field of reconciliation.
I first got involved with The Tipi Raisers when I heard about their Ride Of Reconciliation this summer. Providing support to the Lakota Horseback Riders as they made the journey from the Denver Metro area to the Pine Ridge Reservation was among the most meaningful and life-changing experiences I've had. Hearing the stories of the Lakota people and joining them for meals, drum circles, dancing and other ceremonies was eye-opening and humbling. That first positive experience sparked my interest in getting more involved. I am now planning a trip to The Pine Ridge Reservation to help with The Race To Winterize and hopefully reconnect with the people I met in Colorado . I am also excited to support The Gen 7 Youth Ambassadors at their Youth Leadership Summit this fall in Colorado. The work that The Tipi Raisers are committed to spans so many aspects of life for the people on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I've been involved with many non-profits over the years, but none has had the impact on me that The Tipi Raisers have. I am now focused on shining a light on the amazing work of Dave, Lori and the others at The Tipi Raisers. I hope to introduce them to my friends and family so that can experience first hand what I have.
The staff and volunteers at Cherokee Ranch & Castle have worked with the Tipi Raisers the past two years creating and producing a summit for teens. The purpose of the summit is to bring a wide diversity of young people together to discover how much they have in common, hone leadership skills and start looking at solutions to problems we all face in the future. Tipi Raisers is a foundational and integral part of the program. They have helped with creating the curriculum, bringing participants, providing support and facilitating the activities. Their representatives are always positive and visionary, yet they are more than willing to do the work to make things happen. Their deep commitment to the youth of today, the Lakota people and the future ahead is apparent in everything they do. They have persevered through major obstacles and gradually earned the trust and respect of the Lakota people on the reservation. This is a group that is truly changing lives!
My time spent with Tipi Raisers was fantastic. The week was full of hard work, laughter, pushing boundaries, connecting with new people, and having new cultural experiences. Tipi Raisers is incredibly well organized and well run.
My fiance has joined the Tipi Raisers the past few years to serve the Pine Ridge Oglala Lakota People, and this year I was fortunate enough to join her. Pine Ridge, South Dakota is a magical place, full of wonderful people, deeply though provoking stories, and poverty like I've not seen before in the United States.
Everything moves a little slower on the Pine Ridge Reservation, something that takes some getting used to, including progress on home repairs. They (Residents of the Reservation) are still repairing homes from a hail storm last August. That was essentially our role, as well as prepping for the winter.
Dave Ventimiglia, who runs The Tipi Raisers, has done something more incredible than I can put into words for this review. He has brought together locals and volunteers to work in teams at repairing windows, roofs, siding, and all other manner of home repairs. This is no easy task, as there are many intricate complications of white settlers entering the Reservation to do work (as one can image). The shear amount of work we were able to accomplish in our short stay was truly amazing, and in large part a refection on Dave's hard work and leadership.
We didn't just work, Dave provided all manner of cultural education along the way, helping us understand the Lakota people more fully and creating an all-round richer experience. Dave's passion is only surpassed by his sincere belief in the Lakota People, something I will forever remember and reflect on.
I became a part of the Tipi Raisers in November of 2018. I went on a 4 day volunteer trip to Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The Tipi Raisers lined up transportation, lodging, food, and organized us into work crew. We had a wonderful experience working, and learning from one another. Tipi Raisers combines cultural learning, group building, and practical work.
As a Regional Supervisor for the Rocky Mountain Region of the U.S. Pony Clubs I was approached to participate in the 2019 Tipi Raisers Ride of Reconciliation. The Ride departed from my neighborhood’s Cherokee Ranch and Castle in Sedalia, then traveling on the Highline Canal into Cherry Hills Village and Greenwood Village. We rode with the Lakota, shared sage ceremonies, evening camp gatherings (wicoti), and learned about this beautiful culture. It is not hyperbole to say that it was life changing. We will share stories with, join the annual Ride, and participate in the Lakota Youth Ambassador Program for years to come.
Last summer, I joined The Tipi Raisers for what I thought would be a one-week trail ride. That week became an ongoing volunteer mission of service. Retired from a 38-year nonprofit fundraising career, I had been looking for a way to use those skills and contribute back. I have found that path with The Tipi Raisers and their mission to improve life on the Lakota Reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
This organization is doing incredibly important work at Pine Ridge and is full of passionate, driven, and effective staff and volunteers. They provide excellent relief and support to residents of Pine Ridge and build healing bridges between the Lakota people and non-native individuals from across the country. Their dedication to bringing native and non-native people together is truly inspiring and is making a world of difference in the lives of those they work with.
In a world influenced by surface level issues, here is a unique group of motivated "doer", if you will. The Tipi raisers have made a HUGE positive impact on the indigenous population & community. Through volunteer handy work & commitments, Tipi raisers have done the creators work to their best ability. I am humbly honored to have been able to experience the opportunities Tipi raisers have made possible for me. Thank you! Aho!
How can I put into words an organization that has changed my life forever? My first volunteer trip to Pine Ridge in 2014 opened my world to the Lakota people, and I have made subsequent trips each year courtesy of The Tipi Raisers. Dave is an instrumental member of the organization, and what distinguishes his leadership is is dedication, humility, and love for the Lakota people. He has inspired so many people, including his beautiful family, who are all involved with Tipi Raisers. Because of Dave and the Tipi Raisers, I have had some of the most amazing experiences of my life, I have met some of the most influential people, and I have formed relationship that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The Tipi Raisers is truly inspirational and unique in its mission to serve, build relationships, and learn from the Native people.
I met Dave and Lori while volunteering for a very important project called "The Native American Youth Summit", bridging Native youth with non-native youth to share and collaborate about some of the struggles kids have living on Reservations. It was an amazing and powerful experience hearing stories first hand from the people of Pine Ridge Reservation as well as others. I learned so much in a short time about the vast needs of the Lakota people of Pine Ridge and how the young and old are particularly vulnerable. The Tipi Raisers are doing great work both on and off the reservation to help many people. Whether that means hauling up firewood to distribute, winterizing homes, or helping to build homes, Dave is always trying to change lives for the better. My family and I hope to volunteer for many years to come.
The Tipi Raisers are an incredible organization that has completely changed my life. After visiting the Pin Ridge reservation through the Tipi Raiser's volunteer program, I fell in love with the people and changed my career path so that in the future, I can dedicate myself even more. This organization means the world to me and I would encourage anyone who can to visit and volunteer at the reservation, so that we can attempt to mend the relationship between this country and our Native Peoples, as well as to make new friendships.
My family found Tipi Raisers about 4 years ago when I had the opportunity to go on a trip with them up to Pine Ridge. After that, our family has only grown closer and closer to the organization and those involved. Tipi Raisers changed our lives and has led us to share that change with those around us. Tipi Raisers truly is one of the most dedicated non-profits I have ever seen and provides opportunities for learning, self-reflection, and love beyond what was thought possible. Tipi Raisers is dedicated to serving Pine Ridge physically and emotionally and despite the immense challenge of doing so preserves and creates change.
A unique nonprofit that reaches out to those living in poverty (similar to 3rd world conditions) on a South Dakota Lakota reservation. A bridge between the cultures.
In my almost three years working with Dave and the Tipi Raisers on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, I have had life-changing experiences working with and getting to know the Lakota people. They are kind, generous, funny, warm, and wise beyond a doubt. Dave and his organization has provided us with innumerable opportunities to create lasting change through the service projects as well as through thoughtful dialogue with Native youth and elders and through our cultural experiences such as inipi, dancing, singing, drumming, and horseback riding. I literally cannot imagine my life without the generosity of this organization. I will be an active ambassador through the Tipi Raisers for the Lakota for the rest of my life.

I feel truly blessed and fortunate to have been involved with the 2017 Lakota Ride ! From the first days getting to know Dave Ventimiglia and some of the Sunka Wakan ( Sacred Horses ) to driving up to Pine Ridge to bring down Elders , Singers , Riders and more horses I knew this experience was going to be " Way Cool " !
I had no idea how Epic of a Journey it would be ... Words escape me . There was a sense of community and integrity that is hard to come by in this day and age . A sense of Pride and Confidence coupled with Sadness and remorse follow the Lakota People that We as riders got to experience first hand ! There was joy and happiness and a feeling of Family that was infectious and impossible to deny . Of coming together for a purpose greater than ourselves ! The Songs and Oral Traditions , the laughter and comradery , becoming more in tune with your surroundings , the People and Animals around you and the very Nature of the World We live in ! I have made Friends for Life and Long for the Next time I get to see and spend time with them !! Beginning and ending each day in prayer and thankfulness , relying on and helping each other through this journey has made me a different and better person ! This is the example I wish to exemplify , the Spirit ( Nagi ) or path I want to walk . There is Great Need for the Lakota and Indigenous people everywhere . The Tipi Raisers are continually Helping everywhere they can but it takes a Community ( Oyanke ) to help . Remember , We Are All Related ( Mitakuye Oasin ) !!
A huge thanks to Dave V. and the Tipi Raisers crew who completed this 400 mile journey to Pine Ridge together. This journey was about so much more than riding a horse (although riding was an indelible experience and this fundraiser would have been completely different without the horses). I learned about love, family, courage, generosity, and many precious lessons from people on the ride and those we met along the way, as well as the horses who carried us. Each day was a big adventure full of mystery in the best way (mostly pleasant surprises) and I would not have been anywhere else in the world or done the ride differently. Next year, I know things will continue to grow and improve and we will take what we learned and build on it.
The Lakota Ride is so powerful because it is supported by the prayers, hospitality, and donations of so many people. This year, we were beyond blessed to ride alongside many Lakota people from the Pine Ridge Reservation. Waylon Belt and his family ( wife Priscilla and kids Waylon Jr., Thomas, and Autumn) were the heart of this ride because we were raising funds that would go toward building them a home as well as others who live on Pine Ridge. Just being with them everyday was a gift and thinking about the impact of this ride on their family brought me to tears of joy and gratitude. Not only was this journey helping them raise money for their home, but we were riding home with them and growing together as a family (tiospaye) and having a heck of a lot of fun- from riding horse and playing frisbee to cooking and strumming on the ukulele- memories I will cherish and more importantly, relationships that will remain on my heart. I am unspeakably grateful for every person who was involved with the ride in big and small ways. For the opportunity to spend three weeks in rich community, prayer, and beauty, I give thanks to the Creator God. Wopila tanka (many thanks).
I had an amazing time. I started the frist few days, with my New family. Lakota Riders. I was fortunate enough, to ride again a few days later. I was proud to have been able to have rode 3 out of 4 states with them. Looking forward to next years ride. And I didn't fall off. Almost. That was fun.
This was a spiritual journey for me.
Love them so much. Want to do more.
P. S. Excited about helping with the build, of the house. Hopefully it will be soon.
Much love to Dave and his children.
And all the Tipi Raisers. Thank you to all the horses.
THIS was a great way to know the Lakota People and Have community with all involved. was specticale at first aoubt this non profit but is legit and great people in company and love riding horses was a 22 day horse ride we each got subscriers to donate $ for cause and is a good cause helping the Needy Lakota Natives in Pine Ridge Reservation. build homes , homes help them with food and wood for winter is one of the best ways to get to know the Lakota Natives .was a family of Lakota from 4 up kids were so nice and also was a spirit guide on the journey Terry was great singer /drummer/and help to show ways of the Lakota Natives. Tipi Raisers gave me the opportunity to learn about the rich Lakota culture as well as make a difference in the community. I learned so much about myself and created amazing relationships through my two service trips up there. I'm so thankful for this organization and I can't wait to keep returning.
I just returned from my 3rd volunteer trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation with the Tipi Raisers and for the 3rd time in a row, it was a carreer-changing, unforgettable, informative, well-organized, powerful, and beautiful trip. We always had something to do whether it was learning about the Wounded Knee Massacre from elders, participating in an inipi ceremony, dancing to Lakota drums and singing, and helping the people that have been oppressed by the US for centuries. These trips have revived in me a profound compassion for others that I had while growing up in developing countries but started to fade after moving back to the western culture of the US. If it were not for Pine Ridge Reservation, the Lakota, and the Tipi Raisers, I would not be the person I am today.
I think living on the Pine Ridge Reservation for a week was honestly one of the greatest experiences I've had and I would even say it was a life changing experience. During that week, I meet some of the most humble, compassionate, hopeful and resilient people I've ever meet. I was able to meet people like Waylon and his family, Thurman, Virgil, Romana, and many others and learn about their lives and what it meant to be a Lakota man or woman. And not only was I able to listen to their stories but to a certain extent I was able to live it. By participating in hand games, drum circles, horse back riding, and inipi, I was able to live like a Lakota and by doing so I was able to fully appreciate their culture. At first I felt guilty because as an American, I understand and further learned of the economic, social, physical, and psychological damage that we have inflicted upon Native Americans. But I greatly appreciate the members of the Lakota culture living on the Pine Ridge reservation for willingly opening their home, land, and more importantly, their heart to us. I know that the physical work that my group and I did over the week was very little. But I know the emotional work that we did such as listening to these individuals and their stories is a step in the right direction in terms of bridging the differences between Americans and Native Americans. And I just want to thank Dave along with Tipi Raisers for granting us this very special opportunity- its something that I will hold near and dear to me!
I had an amazing experience with the tipi raisers! I learned more in this one week of volunteering than I have on any other trip. I learned about myself and the Lakota people. Working on Virgil's garden was inspiring and I hope to go back to do more! We also enjoyed some sight seeing, horseback riding, raising a tipi and hearing from guest speakers.
Tipi Raisers gave me the most important week of my life when I volunteered with them from March 4-11, 2017. Each day was carefully planned by the executive director and involved 3 days of 6-hour shifts working on the demolition of an abandoned retreat center in order to salvage lumber to build a home for a local family and working on the construction of a community garden. We also retrieved and delivered firewood and food to a family in need. We personally met with and worked alongside all of the individuals we were serving and were able to get a real sense of how they struggled on a day to day basis. Additionally, we had daily activities and outings that taught us so much about the Lakota culture, history, and way of life. We visited schools, churches, national parks, powwows, and learned from many leaders and elders from the Reservation. By the end of the trip, I felt so moved and inspired by the people that Tipi Raisers had brought in to talk to us and so motivated by the work the organization helped us get done that I plan on coming back to Pine Ridge many more times in the future. Tipi Raisers was extremely thoughtful in its planning of our itinerary, professional in the execution of our work projects, effective in making a direct impact on Pine Ridge families, and personal in its investment in bettering relations between natives and non-natives. I cannot stress how effective and inspiring this organization is, and the fact that the executive director, Dave, and his family and board members are so well-loved and known on the Reservation is proof of the enormous impact of Tipi Raisers.
Experiencing the Lakota Tribe with Tipi Raisers was a remarkable experience. Exceptional planning and execution, meaningful education, and personal interaction with tribe members made for an unforgettable and life-changing experience. This was a unique blend of humanitarian service with first-hand cultural exposure. Thank you to Tipi Raisers for an incredible week!
During my 10+ years working in international development, I have evaluated hundreds of development organizations regarding their financial and social impact and suitability for additional funding. I was thoroughly impressed with how Dave and his team approached working with the local Pine Ridge Lakota population. I felt a genuine desire from Tipi Raisers to help our group gain an appreciation for the challenging historical, cultural, economic, spiritual context the Lakota people are living in. I left the project with a strong desire to get to know the Lakota culture and traditions better and find ways to establish meaningful connections with them. Thanks Tipi Raisers for an amazing experience and I hope to join you again in the near future on other worthwhile projects.
We had a tremendously memorable and impactful week with Tipi Raisers -- and I am confident that the positive impacts accrued more to us than the people we came to help. Our activities spanned working closely with a specific family to address their acute needs, attending multiple cultural activities that exposed us and endeared us to the Lakota people and culture, as well as a lot of fun.
I had the opportunity to bring my oldest son with me on the trip and he definitely feels that it is one of the more meaningful experiences he has had in his life. He wants to go back and as my children become old enough to meaningfully assist in the work that needs to be done, I would like to involve my entire family in repeated projects with Tipi Raisers.
The trip with the Tipi Raiser was truly an amazing experience and one that I will hold dear for a long time to come. I went on the trip with the intent to provide service to an under-served community but left having gained so much more from spending time with the people, learning about their culture and soaking up the incredible landscape. I got to say it's hard to beat a horse back ride on the open terrain overlooking the reservation.
Tipi Raisers has created a volunteer experience that enables participants to work with their minds and hands to experience a deep cultural exchange with the Lakota Native Americans. Tipi Raisers was very flexible and accommodating in working with our volunteer group to maximize our experience. We met a handful of community leaders both young and old, built a few significantly impactful things for a family, had some traditional Native food, and experienced several unique cultural experiences. When you leave this volunteer experience, you'll have built stronger relationships and created a lifetime memory.
There are few times in life when a single place or group of people will positively change who you are in the short course of a week. Pine Ridge changed my perspective on the world, and Tipi Raisers provided the means to spend time at Pine Ridge, the space for meaningful reflection, and the opportunity for action.
Society has a tendency to filter history into its most digestible and anecdotal form. Even within the progressive curriculum of my high school, my experience of American history was grossly dominated by the eurocentric white man’s perspective. Huge historical events were often summarized into less shocking forms that made them seem like fairy tales, with each obstacle or tragedy portrayed as a hump in the road on the way to more power. Although I will never fully understand what the Lakota people have been through, and continue to go through, nor the strength it takes to overcome the adversity they face, I left Pine Ridge knowing that American history is not a determined narrative made to fit in the thousand pages of a text book. Our history is a web of stories and tragedies that come together to create the human experience, the Native American experience, the American experience. There is no one history.
After hearing stories of the Lakota people first hand, it was easy to resort to an instinctual feeling of guilt for what the American government has done, and continues to do to Native American people. But as I continued to build relationships, listen to the elders, and hear stories from the Lakota youth, it became apparent that Lakotas are not sharing their history for the purposes of making white Americans feel ashamed. Lakota stories need to be told because they hold the inherent truth that all humans are related, and in that realization is the intangible power to create a humane world of compassion. From Inipi on the first night, to listening to Basil Braveheart speak, to shouting into the badlands desert, the amount of compassion and love on Pine Ridge and from the people there is incredible, and I think (at least in part) it rubbed off on me. Even now that I have left Pine Ridge, what I learned there and the idea that all humans are related, is constantly on my mind. Going on a trip to Pine Ridge should be a mandatory fee of being an American citizen. It fundamentally changed how I look at the world, how I look at other people, and how I handle the responsibility of being an American. Tipi Raisers gave great context to the power of our experiences, and I would not have had the takeaways I did without the support of Dave and the organization. I plan on returning to Pine Ridge many times in the future.
Going on the trip with Tipi rasiers was one of the most helpful and educational experiences of my life. I met amazing people and had experiences that will change my life forever. I leared more about myself society and the Pine Ridge reservation then I could have ever dreamed. I also very much enjoyed the importance of my presence in Pine Ridge. Overall the best experience of my life and it was all thanks to Tipi Raisers.
The leader of Tipi Raisers, is such a kind and thoughtful person. He puts so much into the non-profit. The leader has the audacity to knock on strangers' doors and ask if they need help. These are the kinds of things that are indicative of the kind of person the leader is. In addition, Tipi Raisers really showed our group such a diverse portrait of Pine Ridge. In terms of volunteer projects, I felt like I was really helping contributing particularly when our group painted a resident's walls which were extremely filthy. By far one of the greatest week's of my life!
Tipi Raisers fell short of providing our group with a full and complete picture of the reservation becasue, for example, we did not see where the president of the reservation lives or see the casinos.
I had the most profound experience in South Dakota on a trip that was organized through the Tipi Raisers. Through their efforts we were able to meet with locals throughout the Pine Ridge Reservation to learn of the Lakota's history, culture, and present conditions. It would not have been possible if the Tipi Raisers (Dave!) were not there to help us in accessing the community. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
-Menachem
Incredible learning experience. I can honestly say that I have grown immensely because of Tipi Raisers and the program they ran. They were also incredibly flexible with our religious observances such as kosher, shabbat, etc.
We thoroughly enjoyed working with The Tipi Raisers! We went to Pine Ridge to learn, work, and interact with the Lakota community. Dave was extremely accommodating, responsive, and help and arranged a number of educational and cultural opportunities. I'd recommend The Tipi Raisers to any college group looking for a meaningful and unique Alternative Break experience.
This organization is amazing! Our trip went on without a hitch and we all saw the great work that Tipi Raisers is doing.
Tipi Raisers is accomplishing what others have failed at; to realize a vision and a venue for homes, jobs and dignity on Pine Ridge through trust and hard work with the Lakota Sioux. This non profit is generous and heartfelt and sincerely wishes to lift up and honor our Native American brothers and sisters.
One of the best experiences of my entire life, and it would not have been possible without the Tipi Raisers. Looking forward to working with them in the future! :)
Awesome non profit. The weekend we spent with Tipi Raisers on the Pine Ridge reservation was transformative for all stakeholders. As a school counselor I am afforded many opportunities to work with different non-profit organizations. Tipi Raisers is hands down the best organization I have come across in my 18 years is this field. Dave and his team know what they are doing.
Thank you so much for everything that you are doing. The past weekend experience is something I will remember though out my life. I'm happy to be part of this organization.
This is a great group, and I feel so lucky that I got to spend time with you last weekend! I learned a lot and the experience changed my life.
The Tipi Raisers is a community of Native Lakota and non-Natives who believe that the wisdom, culture and traditions of the Lakota People can inform and benefit the Modern World at the same time that the Modern World can assist and support the Lakota People in creating more prosperous and humane living conditions on the reservations. Through a variety of collaborative projects, The Tipi Raisers strive to build alliances and strengthen communities for people both on and off the reservation.
Such a wondeful organization that works with the Lakota tribe on Pine Ridge and students from Colorado. From raising money for projects to building things the Lakota people need.
I went with my church group to Pine Ridge in October, and we were there for a week. We were there to rebuild homes but, my experience was so much more than that. David, the director along with Lakota elders made sure we learned about their culture. We were part of an Inipi ceremony, we went horseback riding, and we're lucky enough to experience The Badlands. I hope I get a chance to go back to Pine Ridge in the near future and see all the wonderful people I met.
A non-profit that values and practices the integrity of hands on help along with donations to support the outreach to the Lakota people re: housing, repair, collateral help to better the life of a nation entrenched in poverty. The non-profit respects the traditions of the native American people.
Tipi Raisers is an absolutely incredible organization. Their work is so poignant and passionate. I am truly touched by the difference that this program has made in the lives of so many. This organization is well worth supporting.
I spent a week with the Tipi Raisers on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Their connectedness to the Lakota, enabled them to expose us to their traditions & spirituality in insightful and reverent ways. The information and interactions changed me. It increased my admiration for the Lakota way of life and my respect for their fight to retain and pass it on to future generations. It was definitely time well spent
After a week with the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation volunteering and learning more about their proud history and culture, I have come away with great respect for them and the intention to explain their situation and encourage others to become involved with them...come and see! It was a fantastic week!

Thank you for this kind review! Just to clarify, we are not a Christian organization. We do facilitate service trips for church groups to join as well as schools and other organizations and individuals but we place a high value on being a non-religious organization and amplifying the Indigenous Wisdom of the communities we serve.
