I participated in a few volunteer days this year and was overwhelmed with the amount of change we could bring to someone's life in one day. We assisted an 84-year-old veteran who needed a ramp for easy access in and out of his home. The joy our assistance brought to this gentleman was overwhelming. Another build involved assisting a community garden to spread mulch and make it safer for the elderly crew that worked in these gardens on a daily basis. As we were assisting, a 99-year-old lady from the neighborhood spent the entire day gardening. The fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs are used in the community's everyday cooking. Some community members have seen a reduction in maintenance medications since working and eating healthier from their own garden. This time I spent volunteering benefited me as much as the community.
