I participated in a few volunteer days this year and was overwhelmed with the amount of change we could bring to someone's life in one day. We assisted an 84-year-old veteran who needed a ramp for easy access in and out of his home. The joy our assistance brought to this gentleman was overwhelming. Another build involved assisting a community garden to spread mulch and make it safer for the elderly crew that worked in these gardens on a daily basis. As we were assisting, a 99-year-old lady from the neighborhood spent the entire day gardening. The fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs are used in the community's everyday cooking. Some community members have seen a reduction in maintenance medications since working and eating healthier from their own garden. This time I spent volunteering benefited me as much as the community. I've had the opportunity to attend 2 builds with the RTA organization this year. Both were incredibly impactful to the homeowner in need of support. The leadership of the staff ensured the volunteers had clear direction on how to make the best use of their time and resources. I am honored to serve on the RTA Board, but even if I wasn't I would still volunteer and support RTA through financial giving.
I’ve had the privilege to volunteer at two separate events earlier this year and I am profoundly proud of what our team, in conjunction with the partnering General contractor, were able to accomplish both days. I got to witness first-hand the positive impact we made on the family after we transformed their dilapidated house into a vibrant and welcoming home. As a person who is passionate about giving back to the community, it was extremely satisfying to meet a large group of like-minded individuals who strive to help revitalize our communities. RTA is a strong and well-organized nonprofit that truly understands the underlying issues that face many underserved individuals in our communities. I have volunteered with Rebuilding Together Atlanta twice now and both times were fantastic experiences. The board and the staff are very dedicated to the Atlanta Communities and homeowners they work with. Every project I have been involved with has been organized well, materials and tools were made available, and we were able to tackle the checklists with time to spare. RTA fosters a safe atmosphere of positive teamwork and fun camaraderie. I hope to volunteer with RTA again in the future because they are actually making a visible impact to individuals lives and communities as a whole. Highly recommend this organization!

According to the Federal Reserve Bank , the city of Atlanta is facing an affordable housing shortage of nearly 150,000 units and nearly half of Atlanta residents spend more than 30% of their monthly income on rent. One of the most effective ways of solving this issue is to maintain the existing housing stock within the City. Rebuilding Together Atlanta continues to do great work within the City of Atlanta combating the issues of housing affordability by providing the necessary repairs and updates that allow some of the City's most vulnerable residents maintain their homes and age in place.

RTA has been a leader across Metro Atlanta for more than 30 years. The organization's mission, to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives, is realized by making high-risk homes safe and healthy while helping low income senior and veteran homeowners age comfortably in place. As a board member, I have been involved with RTA for the last three years and we've never been in a better position to serve the Atlanta Metro. We recently added several new staff members / leaders who possess decades of experience in community revitalization and home repair. Working alongside our dedicated board members, generous donors and valued partners, the new team members bring invaluable expertise, skills, vision, and energy that allow the organization to change lives and more effectively serve members of our communities.

I came to know Rebuilding Together Atlanta (RTA) through a unique way: I was a former grants manager who provided compliance & oversight regarding their renovation & restoration projects to low- to moderate senior &/or veteran homeowners. I was impressed with their mission, compassion, integrity & ethics, & because they always 'do what is right'. After my role changed, I was humbled, as I was asked if I would consider serving as a board member & now, I am honored to serve on their board.
Having the opportunity to participate in projects & to experience first-hand the life-changing, positive, & direct impacts that contribute to the well-being, joy & improvement for some of our most precious homeowners is so very special. What I am experiencing feeds my soul & gives me so much more than I could ever give in return.

The work being done by Rebuilding Together Atlanta supersedes a lot of nonprofits. Their program Safe Home program focusing on the most vulnerable part of our community, the elderly and disabled. As a real estate broker licensed in the state of Georgia, it is refreshing to see a program that is designed specifically to increase black homeownership and work to close the wealth gap through homeownership as well as keeping legacy homeowners in their homes. I am excited to see the work that this non-profit continues to bring to Atlanta and the innovative ways to increase homeownership among those who continue to be disadvantaged.

One experience that will forever stay with me is the day we helped Ms. Jackson, an elderly widow living alone in a house needing attention. Our volunteers spent the day making critical home repairs - fixing leaky pipes, replacing broken windows, and installing grab bars in the bathroom. At the end of the day, Ms. Jackson broke down in tears of gratitude. She told me that we had given her hope and restored her dignity. At that moment, I truly understood the power of our mission. Through simple acts of service, we can change lives. We can empower folks like Ms. Jackson to live independently with pride. That day reaffirmed my commitment to bringing people together to rebuild homes and rebuild lives across Atlanta. It showed me that even small acts of kindness can make an immense difference.
