Tickets for Kids is an incredible program! I have been lucky to work at a partner agency for many years and have experienced the magic of this program time and time again. Of course, the kids and families have a blast at all the super cool events and experiences they would likely not otherwise be able to attend, but the really cool part is everything that happens behind the scenes. Attending these activities often requires advance planning, organization, time management, and budgeting for things like parking, snacks, or souvenirs. Sometimes even just figuring out transportation to an event is a major undertaking, but families find ways to figure it out because the payoff is so high. And once they realize they can tackle these things for something fun, they realize they can utilize those same skills for everyday tasks too. The memories created and shared between parents and kids or classmates last long after the excursion is over and can be just as meaningful to the adults as the kids they bring to the events. Tickets for Kids provides a wide assortment of opportunities and there is truly something for everyone. It’s always extra special to see someone be exposed to a new experience/culture/artform for the first time and watch them be mesmerized. Many of the kids served by our program have spent time in foster care, experienced homelessness, or survived other challenges that leave them feeling “othered.” It’s amazing how something as simple as attending a play or a sporting event can bring them out of their shell and help them feel like they fit in with their peers. Tickets for Kids really is so much more than just a ticket!
