The Longears Safehouse is a wonderful resource for our New Mexico community. I had adopted a mother and daughter burro who lived with me and my horses for about three years. The mama burro was very shy and cautious around people and she needed to learn to trust so she could be handled by the vet, the farrier and others needing to work around her. Dorothea agreed to work on her rehabilitation at the Safehouse and had made progress, but the proper process was slow and time consuming. During that period, I got a health condition that limited my physical capabilities, and sadly I had to give up the idea of bringing mama and baby back to my home. However, I know they are happy being among the other burros. They are getting lots of loving, excellent care and attention to their needs. I am truly grateful to the Safehouse for being there when I really needed assistance, for agreeing to take them in, for giving them a new home where they can flourish and where I can visit them as I can.
