It is rare to find an organization that truly “walks the talk.” Hand in Hand has been promoting key humane strategies to deepen our connections with each other and ourselves. As an immigrant parent of two children in the U.S., I have faced challenging times in parenting: domestic violence, divorce, parental alienation, and near bankruptcy. With Hand in Hand encouraging me to keep reaching out to my children, seek support from others, and tap into my own creativity, compassion, and critical thinking, I have navigated life’s treacherous events and arrived at a joyful, fulfilling place. Now, I can experience what I once wished for as a child growing up in Asia: connection, unconditional love, firm boundaries, play, and laughter with my now-grown children. It feels like a miracle, yet it’s not. Their tools are simple, universally applicable, and powerful.
I am writing as a professional educator in the field of early childhood education, and my experience stems from my time as a parent with Hand in Hand. The strategies and training I received from Hand in Hand translate well to my work as an educator.
