When my sons were little we signed them up for soccer. They ended up giving the ball to the other team every time it was in their possession. When we asked one of our sons why he just gives the ball away he said, “isn’t it good to share.” Needless to say there are no trophies or medals for sports hanging in their room.

What they do have are dozens of wrinkled paper certificates for academics and service that were sent home in backpacks with no fanfare. My friends talk about these amazing sports banquets where parents cheer as their athlete is individually recognized on stage.

Fast forward to 2023 and 2024 when my sons were individually on a stage with the Carsons and a list of their academic and service achievements were highlighted at a banquet. They wore the Carson Scholar medals with pride. Both my sons are Carson Scholars. They are Boy Scouts working on their Eagle Projects. They have dedicated themselves to community service. Both have over a 4.0 GPA and make good choices to achieve that daily.

They finally have a trophy. It sits at their school prominent in the office where name plates list past Carson Scholars. It is proof of how it is good to share. Thank you to everyone who has donated so students like my sons feel seen for their goods choices and encouraged to achieve.
