Review for Defenders of Freedom, Coppell, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Top-notch organization! I did not have to prove my illness or injury and I never felt judged. Ms. Donna & Resiliency Brain Health went right into helping me with getting my brain to start firing in more areas & strengthening other areas. Dr. G & her team perform computer tests and gaming assessments then immediately go into coming up with a plan they can work with you on in the clinic. It helped me realize my TBI was possibly not from 1 direct blow, but from multiple indirect blows (frequency & proximity). I was an Army Medic on the Evac team in Iraq in 2009. Under Defenders of Freedom, Dr. G and her team are amazing. The energy in their clinic never triggered me. I felt safe! The best part was Dr. G would perform different tests & gently educate me on so many different techniques (breathing, stretches, being conscious of light, and pacing myself). It took me a minute to buy into it all until my family mentioned noticing a difference in my mood, stamina, and speech.

Also a part of the program was their other partner (Ms. Susan Harris) who did a complete blood workup on me, and saw that my meds, prescribed by the V.A., were bottoming out my potassium. Who would have known that my memory fog & loss on top of my mental confusion also connected to my diet? I didn't! I only thought it was my seizures. The V.A. did nothing when I told them, so Susan gave me different tips & Dr. G gave me a book for "Eat Right for your (blood) Type". It bought me some time before I was hospitalized for hypoalkemia. It took being in the hospital before the V.A. listened & helped. Compared to Dr. G & Susan Harris jumping into action right away. All my mental confusion and memory-loss from Feb. 2024 - July 2024 could have been avoided. If only someone cared like Ms. Donna.

Thank you to Ms. Donna for the information and network connections. I was blessed to have been referred to Defenders of Freedom. I am still in touch with them. They are family now. They still check-in and care almost 10mths later. Unfortunately, the V.A. does not take time to educate. In 3yrs they have only medicated me. As my seizures continue to be more frequent, I go back to Dr. G's videos & emails. I can even text the clinic whenever I need something, have new info about myself, or could use more tips. It's cool having people that understand without me having to place more burden on my family. The V.A. tries to make me feel like my illness is not real, but I am the one living with it 24hrs a day. Also important to know-- before my sister passed away, she kept telling me to embrace being a Veteran. In the last 2yrs, I have tried so many organizations "in support of veterans". Defenders of Freedom is the only one who specializes in my biggest struggle (my mind) & is actually good at what they do.
