Review for Helping Honduras Kids, Woodland Park, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

How was my experience you ask? Let me put it this way, I volunteered at the Hogar de Amor for the latter six months of last year and I just got my plane ticket to fly back August 25 for a whole year. I absolutely loved every moment of volunteering for HHK. I love the people, the area is so beautiful and with the weekends off there is so much time to explore and see new things, and lastly the kids are some of the sweetest kids I have ever met. There were days that I questioned why I ever came, but those days made me stronger. I fully recommend considering volunteering for HHK. These guys know what they are doing!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

...each of the kids' faces. They go to bed each night with a full stomach and knowing someone on earth loves them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

...getting to know each of the children and their specific needs and personalities. Once I got past their little barriers they put up and they know they can trust me, I started seeing who they really are: just little people. Not orphans.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

... above and beyond what I expected. Besides the kids, the volunteers made my stay much better. We became a family.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

... build a better facility for more children and be able to spend more money on outings and field trips. Also pay for a few more full time teachers in their school.

Ways to make it better...

... I had a clearer picture what I was going to be doing while I was there.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

... the local people in Agua Caliente and money. Money is the biggest.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I cannot wait till I get to spend an entire year with these kids and organization. (I hope to see you there!!!)

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008

Role:  Volunteer & cleaned, taught, organized activities for down-time, worked one-on-one with the kids, helped manage the volunteer program, most of all fell in love with the kids.
