More than 25 years ago, I joined the Board of the Starbright Children's Foundation, an offshoot of Starlight. Starbright sought to reach children in hospital using technology, including what was likely the first online social network, where hospitalized children could communicate with each other in chaperoned chats and other communications. Starbright eventually folded back into Starlight but the use of technology to reach hospitalized children persists in expanding the numbers of children who can be reached effiicently and helped. Starlight is managed with focus and efficiency, as well as vision, and has succeeded beyond all my hopes in bringing aboard extraordinary partners, such as Disney, to broaden and deepen its offerings to the more than 3 million children it has reached. My participation is one of the life achievements I am most proud of.
