I learned about Orangutan Outreach in 2015, when I was planning a trip to Indonesia. Rich referred me to RAW Wildlife Encounters at the time, and that is who I chose to travel with. What a great decision. I was able to visit the SOCP "baby house" and see semi-wild orangutans in Gunung Leuser National Park and was awestruck. It solidified my love of orangutans, and propelled me to take several more trips on my own between 2016-2017. I volunteered at the BOS Samboja Sanctuary in Borneo in 2017. I mostly volunteered with the sun bears because there was a need at the time for a 2-month volunteer. But I also had the chance to see the orangutans on their "islands" each day, and make enrichment for them as well as the sun bears. I can't wait to go back; it's been far too long. I have supported Orangutan Outreach whenever I can, and will continue to do so. Rich Zimmerman is the REAL deal, and his lifelong mission to save this incredible and highly endangered species is a noble one. I recommend them highly as a non-profit to donate to! A dear friend who has since passed donated to OO for my Christmas present a few years ago. The attached pic is the first time I saw an orangutan (a baby, no less!) in the protected wild in Sumatra, where they should be!!!
