Review for The Wellness Community - Greater Washington, DC, Bethesda, MD, USA
We discovered The Wellness Community when we picked up a brochure at our oncologist’s office. What a find! My husband was in the midst of chemotherapy and radiation treatments for colon cancer when we dropped in for a Gentle Yoga class for those with cancer and their caregivers. The instructor was and is terrific, the warmth of all the workers at TWC incredible, and the atmosphere beautiful and soothing. It was a source of excellent information and comfort. We have participated in a number of the programs offered, which have included, exercise, support, informational talks on nutrition and treatment, and fun gatherings of music and food. We can’t say enough about how special it is. And, it is all offered free of charge! Several years earlier, I had endured two separate episodes and surgeries for breast cancers and I truly had felt the need for support from a place like TWC, but was unable to find that. TWC fills a need that, I feel, every cancer patient and caregiver should have the opportunity to experience. We are so grateful for the presence of this wonderful organization.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
not only the benefits to ourselves, but to those we have met particpating at TWC.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
feel very proud of the care and services which are offered and would strive to maintain that level of service.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the caring, knowledgeable, and empathetic staff.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
program director, receptionist, group facilitators, and counselors, all of whom have been exceptionally caring and capable people in their fields.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
expand in other locations in the D.C. area and thereby offer much needed support to countless others undergoing cancer treatment.
Ways to make it better...
this facility had been open several years sooner when I had breast cancer, but it has been most beneficial for my husband at this time.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
obtaining funds to continue offering free services to patients and caregivers.
One thing I'd also say is that...
TWC covers an important and often under-served need of cancer patients who are in treatment and recovery and their caregivers who often feel a great deal of stress. Addressing this is an important aspect of recovery.
