Review for Almost Home Foundation, Elkgrove Village, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

After losing my last kitty, Woman, of 18 years, I began feeling like it was time to find my next fur baby. I took my time looking and the multitudes of profiles of the sweet little faces was often difficult to see because as a animal lover you want to take them all, give them all a loving home and ease their pain and anxiety. But I can have only one! So it had to be a purrfect fit! Not just for me but for my parrot , Chico, as well. When I came across Pixie's profile, something in her eyes spoke to me. I sent my request to meet her and began preparing my home for my new fur baby. Someone contacted me and connected me with Pixie's foster, Val. Val was very gracious in answering all my questions, sending me photos and working with me to arrange a meet and greet. As a senior who does not drive, Val was very understanding, patient and flexible and very welcoming for my brother and I to make the ride out to meet her and sweet Pixie. Upon meeting Pixie, I knew from the second her little nose touched my hand that I had found my new fur baby. Having a bird to consider, this was not my first meet and greet. I expressed my needs to Val and she allowed me to spend some time getting to know Pixie and we discussed the potential for a mutual fit. Val made the meet and greet and the adoption process so smooth and effortless. She communicated the steps AHF takes in their adoption process to make sure there is a good match and made herself available for any questions I had. Pixie came home with me on June 15th, and is now Priya, the Sanskrit word for "Beloved". Val has welcomed updates as to Priya's progress and provided prompt feedback if I had any concerns or questions after the adoption. One of the most important things to know as an adopter or a foster or a foundation, is that the welfare of the animal is of utmost importance. Finding a good fit requires a lot of time and effort on the parts of many, and in the long run is worth all the rewards you get in snuggles, head bumps purrs and fluff. Priya is settling in and adjusting well to me, Chico and her new home. It is amazing to me, to watch her blossom, discovering what makes her comfortable and irritated and giving her the freedom, and time, to realize that she is home! She is safe. She is loved. We make new discoveries about each other every day and the joy I feel the more she warms up to me is incredible! Thank you, Val. Thank you Almost Home Foundation for doing all you do to help lost animals become "beloved" pets.
