I wouldn’t have my “twins” without almost home foundation. Back in 2020, I fostered a bonded pair of shepherds that quickly became my fur babies and we eventually adopted. Even after the adoption was finalized, I wanted to continue to contribute my efforts to ahf. Since then, I have greatly enjoyed volunteering as a handler and eventually an adoption coordinator. I am proud to be a part of a wonderful organization that saves countless dogs every year!
I've adopted 3 dogs from Almost Home and have been a volunteer since late 2013. This organization does amazing work.
We found out about the Almost Home Foundation back in 2019, while having dinner at Firehouse Hotdogs. We saw a gentleman walking a dog and he told us about AHF. At the time we already had a cat and were not in the position to adopt another, but we always knew that when the time came, we'd adopt through AHF. We lost our cat Lima in 2023 and knew that we'd adopt another cat when we were ready. Two years later, we saw Pearl on their FB page and immediately knew she was the one. The AHF staff were very helpful during the process. Pearl was rescued from the streets and stayed with a foster family. As it is with most rescues, she had a hard life. When we met her, she was extremely shy and nervous, but we still wanted her. AHF Sheila recommended we foster to adopt to make sure we were a good fit for Pearl and she for our family (due to the limited interaction during the meeting). Pearl came home and hid for about a week. During this time, Sheila kept in contact checking in on Pearl and to see if we needed anything. After a week, Pearl came out and started to trust us and our home little by little. When we finally adopted her officially, Sheila had all the documents ready, provided a goodie bag for Pearl, and a knitted blanket that was donated by a volunteer. Our interactions with Sheila were always positive and nice. We could tell that she really cared about Pearl and wanted to make sure she was going to a loving home. They all do amazing work in trying to get foster and furever homes for rescues. We love this foundation and hope to adopt another cat again in the future!
Almost Home Foundation and the people that volunteer there are some of the best in the world - I am sure of it! They were so helpful to us in finding a companion for our dog - we are now a happy family of four and have the best two dogs in the world. The process was long and not easy, but AHF did not give up on us!
We have adopted several animals from almost home throughout the years. They did a great job of trying to match the right animal to our lifestyle. They also did a great job of answering any follow-up questions we had after the adoptions were completed. We have enjoyed our experience with them enough that we have occasionally fostered dogs with them. The support we received while fostering dogs was exceptional.
I have adopted all 3 of my dogs from
AHF. My experience was great. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable and supportive. I have also volunteered. I was a foster and I was a handler at the adoption events.
I met Florence, now Gracie at an adoption event at PetSmart. She was with her foster mom Kelly and I was drawn to her immediately. She was so sweet and just the dog I was looking for. Her foster mom Kelly was so nice and explained everything to me. We talked a few times and Kelly brought her for a home visit and I adopted her the next weekend at the adoption event. This is a great organization and I really appreciate the care they take in placing these pets and the whole fostering process. I am so happy I met Gracie and Kelly that day. I give them a 5 star review.
Kristy has been wonderful in helping support our journey with adopting a dog! Would recommend anyone using AHF!
Almost Home Foundation is a selfless organization run by passionate volunteers.
It is 100% about serving animals in need, and it takes an army of volunteers to do it!
I have been lucky enough to have been on both ends of the organization from receiving such amazing help finding our own dog, to paying it forward to help others find theirs!
They stretch what limited resources they have to a tremendous degree and the volunteers are strictly that, labor of love
My wife and I adopted Rosie (Formerly Trudy) from AHF. The process was very easy and, after a brief fostering, we adopted Rosie. She's a great cat and is adapting well to our home and our existing cat Ginger. Almost Home made the process very easy and their representative Sheila was very patient and answered all our questions. The AHF website was also easy to use and navigate. Try Almost Home for your cat adoption today.
We adopted two kittens through AHF. We were new to the adoption process and thought it would be a hassle. After hearing about AHF from a friend and looking on their website, we started the adoption process with Gerald (now Queso) and Cashew. From the very beginning the process was so easy and it was clear that AHF has wonderful volunteers who care so much and invest lots of time to make sure the right home is found. It was a great experience and a special shout out to Sheila and Erika. I have never met such dedicated and loving people to the cats and kitties they foster and care for. We are so thankful to have our new additions and they are perfect for our family. When we finally got to bring them home, everything was taken care of (neutering, previous vet visits, chip registration etc) so it was super easy and allowed us to focus on the transition. Thank you so much for a pleasant experience from start to finish. Would definitely use again and highly recommended. Thank you!
We just adopted this sweet girl through this wonderful foundation. The process was thorough yet simple. You can truly feel their care and love for all the animals. Will definitely be continuing a relationship with them, as a donor and volunteer. Fantastic experience.
Almost Home Foundation provides the highest quality care from the time an animal is rescued until they are adopted - their medical needs are taken care of above and beyond basic needs, and the people who foster them are dedicated to getting pets ready for their forever home. It is so helpful that they all do the best they can to temperament test them so that adopters can choose a potential pet that will be the ideal fit for their family. The volunteers and fosters are so dedicated and thoroughly committed to the care necessary to help pets and adopters adjust to the introduction of a new ‘family’ member. We have adopted two dogs through AMH foundation - and if the time is right to adopt again, we will choose them.
This is a picture of Winston and Mattie, adopted about 6 years apart. They are clearly best friends.
We recently adopted our little girl after ours went over the rainbow bridge. The experience was wonderful. Yvonne - her foster mom constantly communicated with us and sent pictures. We fell in love with "Pixie" the moment we saw her. She is the most lovable cuddly baby ever. Her and our other dog "Junior" love each other and play all the time. I am still sending her foster mom pictures. What a wonderful organization!
This is our 3 dog from almosthome. We love the eork they do for these pets to find there forever home.
After losing my last kitty, Woman, of 18 years, I began feeling like it was time to find my next fur baby. I took my time looking and the multitudes of profiles of the sweet little faces was often difficult to see because as a animal lover you want to take them all, give them all a loving home and ease their pain and anxiety. But I can have only one! So it had to be a purrfect fit! Not just for me but for my parrot , Chico, as well. When I came across Pixie's profile, something in her eyes spoke to me. I sent my request to meet her and began preparing my home for my new fur baby. Someone contacted me and connected me with Pixie's foster, Val. Val was very gracious in answering all my questions, sending me photos and working with me to arrange a meet and greet. As a senior who does not drive, Val was very understanding, patient and flexible and very welcoming for my brother and I to make the ride out to meet her and sweet Pixie. Upon meeting Pixie, I knew from the second her little nose touched my hand that I had found my new fur baby. Having a bird to consider, this was not my first meet and greet. I expressed my needs to Val and she allowed me to spend some time getting to know Pixie and we discussed the potential for a mutual fit. Val made the meet and greet and the adoption process so smooth and effortless. She communicated the steps AHF takes in their adoption process to make sure there is a good match and made herself available for any questions I had. Pixie came home with me on June 15th, and is now Priya, the Sanskrit word for "Beloved". Val has welcomed updates as to Priya's progress and provided prompt feedback if I had any concerns or questions after the adoption. One of the most important things to know as an adopter or a foster or a foundation, is that the welfare of the animal is of utmost importance. Finding a good fit requires a lot of time and effort on the parts of many, and in the long run is worth all the rewards you get in snuggles, head bumps purrs and fluff. Priya is settling in and adjusting well to me, Chico and her new home. It is amazing to me, to watch her blossom, discovering what makes her comfortable and irritated and giving her the freedom, and time, to realize that she is home! She is safe. She is loved. We make new discoveries about each other every day and the joy I feel the more she warms up to me is incredible! Thank you, Val. Thank you Almost Home Foundation for doing all you do to help lost animals become "beloved" pets.
Almost Home Foundation and Paige Lopez helped bring us our beautiful rescue Rosie! Our daughter being an only child needed a fur sibling and Paige worked with us and helped us find our girl. The process was very straightforward with all the staff we encountered very helpful and kind. Rosie was the missing link to our family and we are so grateful to AHF and Paige for rescuing Rosie and bringing her to us!!
So this is my new best friend. I saw her online at Almost Home and went to a meet and greet. If was the most amazing experience. All of the handlers there were professional and so helpful in talking through the behaviors of each animal. Our little gal, Katalina came from a hoarding situation and was so scared of everything around her. I knew she would take time to adjust and I wanted to give her that time in a quiet and loving home. Our other dogs and large cat have helped make this transition easier. I can't say enough about this team of volunteers working at Almost Home. They have huge hearts and a level of professionalism to ensure each animal is placed in a safe environment. Thank you for the extra services you offered as well, like training or information on nutrition or questions about behavior. I value their advice and expertise. Thank you Almost Home for an amazing adoption of Katalina.
Our family had been back and forth about another dog for some time. It was always me saying “no, it doesn’t feel right”, or “maybe next year.” Late one Sunday night, my mom shared a Facebook post from AHF with Denver/Damonti’s story and when I saw his sweet face I just knew. I ran up to show my husband the post but he met me on the stairs with the same post on his phone, so we knew it was meant to be! I filled out the application that night and on Tuesday we met him and brought him home. He goes by Roland (Rolie) now and we’re still working on healing his injuries that he sustained before his rescue. AHF has been wonderful about taking care of our little guy and making sure we all have what he needs to fully recover. We are forever grateful to them for rescuing our Rolie. He is the most loving, gentle, cuddly boy ever and he wouldn’t be with us if AHF had not stepped in.
Almost home was awesome with helping us find our fur baby!! They made sure that everything went smoothly with the adoption!! We love our fur baby so much and are very happy with Almost Home for bringing him to us!!!
We lost both of our dogs last year, within a few months of each other which of course left a giant hole in our hearts.
Then we met Briella (now Elsa) through a good friend of ours who was fostering her for the holidays to give her some time in a home away from the shelter.
She instantly stole our hearts and filled them back up again. We have had her since the new year and couldn't be happier! She is the sweetest dog whose heart is as big as her ears- which always attract attention and comments:)
We can't recommend AHF enough! We love their thorough vetting process to ensure these wonderful pups wind up in the best forever homes possible!
And we are especially grateful that they rescued her from a kill shelter in Alabama, so now she can be a blessing in our whole family's lives and we can smother her with all the love she deserves!
Thank you, AHF! ❤️
Rafael and Jill
We had the best experience with Almost Home Foundation! They are amazing at what they do! We had lost our dog 3 years ago and we were finally ready to adopt and it was our first time adopting. We had an amazing opportunity to Foster to Adopt Douglas and boy was it an experience but Kristy and Almost Home Foundation made our experience so amazing. Kirsty was there for everything we ever needed day or night! They really have it down and really care for their animals they bring in. We now have our forever furbaby and we couldn't be happier! He has brought so much love into our lives and how we missed having four paws in our family! Almost Home Foundation is the best!!! Thank you for all that you do!
We love the Almost Home Foundation! When we had to say goodbye to our 17 year old dog last year, our family was utterly heartbroken. After reaching out to AHF, we were able to adopt Murphy, who has been an absolute joy. The adoption and transition process was great, and we are ecstatic to provide a forever home for a dog in need.
Almost Home is a great foundation! We found our boy, Dice here last year November. Our experience was smooth and Paige, our adoption coordinator, helped us tremendously along the way. The shelter is super clean and the animals are very well taken care of. We would, and do recommend Almost Home to anyone looking to adopt.

We adopted Dice from Almost Home in November of this year. The experience was fantastic from the moment I filled out an application. They answered in a timely manner and helped us with all the questions we had. Paige, one of the volunteers, and Jennette, a trainer, were amazing. We are so thankful we found Almost Home and Dice!
Paige with AHF helped bring my dog Dolly and I together and it has been the best thing to ever happen to me! She has such an huge spot in her heart for all dogs and it truly brings her joy to see each dog find their forever home. Everyone at Almost Home is so knowledgeable about the dogs and cats in their care and strives their hardest to make sure they can save as many at once as possible while also giving them the best care and working to find welcoming foster homes! I know once Dolly and I are ready to bring another dog into our home, we will come right back to almost home!
Almost home was amazing to work with. The staff is amazing with great communication, ease of scheduling appointments/visits, and any information needed. We adopted our dog in March 2023, and it was a great experience from the start. Gianna contacted us to do the initial meet and greet and she was very responsive to any questions we had. She continued to follow up every so often to check on our dog. It was a great experience and I will not hesitate to get another dog from them. Penny has adjust great. She was very timid and shy to now becoming a therapy dog at a special education school. Picture on her first visit is attached.
Cove was a late Christmas present for my fiancé and I. When meeting Cove he was initially very timid and scared of the world. We worked closely with Paige to ensure Cove had a smooth transition into our home. Paige and the Almost Home Foundation helped to provide anything we needed during our foster to adopt period. After a week of getting to know each other a little better we officially adopted Cove. On Tuesday Cove, who is now becoming more confident and less timid, will graduate basic training! The trainer we have been working with is amazing! She was recommended by Paige. We very much appreciate all the support from Paige and the Almost Home Foundation. This was my first experience adopting a rescue and having Paige as a resource for any questions and needs was invaluable. I would highly recommend the Almost Home Foundation to anyone considering adding a new fur baby to their home. Big shout out to Paige! Our home is more complete now that Cove is here. ❤️
We adopted Mark 10 month old, Great Pyrenees/Lab from Almost Home. He was only 59lbs. He is now a healthy 110lbs and thriving. We are so thankful to Paige & Kristi helping us throughout the entire process. They were so supportive, patient, and understanding. They truly took the time to make sure everything was right. They love Mark and wanted the best for him. One day we were walking through Petsmart on an adoption day when my daughter noticed him. We weren’t looking for another dog as we already had a one year old Black Lab Mix Mickey. We fostered to adopt to see if he would fit in with them in our home. Mark has had his challenges, but he has come a long way since then. He is the sweetest boy and has our hearts as we would have it any other way. Mark completes our family. The boys are the best brothers to each other and it’s all because of Paige and Kristi. We are still in contact with them, friends, and I’m so thankful to have them in our lives. Thank you! We love you!!
THE BEST FURRGURL.
When I was initially introduced to Almost Home Foundation I fell in love online with a specific dog. Kristy and Jenn suggested I meet this beautiful angel Bria cause they thought she’d make a better fit so my girlfriend and I agreed to come out and meet her. The actual second we went on a walk with her and other dog Cosmo we immediately fell in love (Cosmo being at the top of that list!)
We did a home visit shortly after and Bria was an immediate match! We immediately went forward with adopting and I cannot describe how perfectly she fits in here it’s like she’s been here her whole life.
I’d also like to give a hugeeee shoutout to Kristy, Jenn, and Stephanie for taking SUCH good care of this girl and pouring so much love into her along the way!
I’ve been volunteering with AHF for a few years and have adopted 3 dogs from this organization. One of these dogs, named Star Lord, holds an extra special place in my heart because he proved himself to be hard to place due to having some special behavioral needs. We started out fostering him and quickly began providing him with the structure, training and guidance that he desperately needed. After about 4 months of fostering Star Lord, we saw tremendous progress but knew in our hearts that he needed a very unique home and that home was ours. We officially adopted him a little over 1 year ago and we are so proud of how far he’s come. Thank you to AHF for not giving up on our boy and for bringing him into our lives!
We adopted our boy in April 2023. He was a nervous Nelly but Almost Home provided the help and support we needed to help him gain confidence! I definitely would recommend adopting from here, I know I will again!
I had a great experience with Almost Home. Both Andrea and Kim were patient and very helpful when we adopted our puppy, Schazti. I would highly recommend them! We are so happy with our new addition.
Almost Home Foundation is a great Rescue group! Very caring and supportive group of volunteers! New pup is now living the dream!
I volunteer and have adopted one of the beautiful reacues at Almost Home foundation. We lost our almost 16 year old labradoodle last summer. Devastating to
All of us as he was with my children when they were toddlers and wa by their as their bff taking care and loving all of us unconditionally. This is what brought me to AHF. I needed a way to grieve and give back to the animals. From my very first day of training, it was a rewarding and magical experience. I could go on and on about how much this organization does to rescue, transport, provide for their.needs. Love and cuddle these babies. But the list would be never ending. After being part of this wonderful group of volunteers, our family decided to adopt beautiful Irving. This guy came in barely able to walk cause of being caged for the first three years of his life. He was skinny and frail. The loving volunteers transformed this beautiful boy and helped him find a fur-ever home. Our home. Irving is so happy with our other dogs and our family. Thank you Almost Home Foundation for opening my eyes to the world of rescue.
I follow AHF Facebook page and I saw they were transporting 6 Great Danes in. They were looking for fosters for these big babies. I wasn’t looking for another dog since I have a 9 yr old lab at home but I grew up with Danes so I said why not. I submitted an app. The dogs arrives via shuttle on Saturday and Norby and I went on Sunday to see who could be a good fit. Fell in love with George (aka as Denzel) so I took him as a FTA (foster to adopt) to make sure Norby will be good with the addition. Obviously Norby approved too so we are again a family of 3.
I was actually looking for a dog when I started the process with Almost Home foundation and quickly realized it wasn’t going to be a fit with our current fur babies. I then looked at their cats when I fell in love with George and Peach. From start to finish the process was easy and we were able to meet the cats at the fosters location and learn more about them. I knew then that they were going to be a perfect fit for our family. Our current cats get along with the new additions and we couldn’t be happier.
Our family fell in love with Bonnie and Clyde just over the internet, but once we met them in person, there was no chance we weren't adding them to our family! We were lucky enough to meet them at their foster home and learn all about them from their foster parents. Almost Home Foundation made the adoption process very easy and quick. Bonnie and Clyde have settled in so wonderfully and even love their new, big sister, our 90 pound Golden Retriever. We are so lucky to have found these two and are so thankful to Almost Home Foundation for saving them!
We love Almost Home and their amazing staff/volunteers! Not only have we adopted Finn (the great pyrenees) and Fiona (the black border collie), but my parents, cousin and friends all found their fur babies with Almost Home. I am amazed at the love and dedication of their staff, and will always be grateful for our pups!!
We lost our wonderful dog, Doc, in July 2021. Then, in Sept, we had an electrical fire at our home (just 9 days after dropping our daughter off at college). We definitely had no intention of adopting a dog, now or in the future. We lived in a hotel for 7 weeks before being placed in temporary housing. One night while scrolling on Facebook, a friend's post caught my attention. She posted about a beagle needing to be adopted, and anyone interested should contact Almost Home Foundation. We had never heard of them, but I reached out after about a week. The beagle had been adopted. We decided it definitely was not meant to be. I wanted to learn more about Almost Home Foundation so I started reading their website. Of course I wanted to just "look" at the dogs, and immediately saw Archie. I showed my husband, and read his bio. We were drawn to him. We've had him in our family for almost two months now, and we are so thankful. He brings us so much joy, and we love him to pieces!!
Almost Home Foundation is the only place to find your forever friend. After our beloved dog passed, we went to a shelter to adopt a dog. They told us he was car friendly,as we had two cats, one elderly. This dog did not like cats and spent a week terrorizing them before we made the heartbreaking decision to return him to the shelter. When we started looking again, we turned to Almost Home Foundation and their foster system.
We were interested in a dog but they chose another family. We were disappointed at first but understood that that family was a better fit for that dog. Then we met Caesar, now Eddie at a meet and greet event. He was being fostered in a home with cats. We fell in love immediately After a home visit, we were able to adopt him the following week. He was so worth waiting for and is a fabulous addition to our family. I have recommended Almost Home Foundation to everyone. They will help you find your forever friend.
We were looking for another cat to join our family as our current cat, Sardo, needed a companion and playmate. We found Captain Midnight at AHF and his description matched exactly what we were looking for and what we knew would be a perfect fit for us and Sardo. AHF truly cares about placing cats in their forever home and worked everything through with us from sending us additional pictures and information to meeting with us at the next adoption event. After meeting him, he was purrfect and we adopted him and brought him home the next day. Sardo (on the left) and Midnight (on the right) are best buddies and he is a welcome addition to our family!
My boyfriend and I started looking for a dog a couple months ago when we spotted little Charity on the Almost Home Foundation website.
The site was very well clear and easy to find information on where we could come meet her at an adoption event, so we headed to the next event she was at.
We had a great time meeting her at PetSmart and getting to talk to her foster mom, who answered all our questions about Charity and the adoption process.
After applying we had our home visit where both foster parents came over with Charity to make sure it was a great fit. They were very understanding about our limitations with my boyfriend's allergies and gave us time for him to spend enough time with her to make sure they wouldn't be a problem (and they weren't! )
We were able to go to the next adoption event and pick her up and bring her home.
Overall we had a great experience and found the perfect dog for us all thanks to this great organization. I would recommend them to anyone I know looking to adopt a pet. I appreciate how they take the time to do the home visit and really make sure that this will be the right pet for you, and right human for them. They really care about all the animals they care about and you can see that in how they operate.
AHF was a wonderful organization to work with when searching for bonded kittens to adopt. The experience was professional, organized, and the visit to the foster home to meet the kittens was great. My partner and I were able to take our time asking questions, getting to know the kittens, and felt no pressure in determining if we'd be a good fit for Oscar and Angela, and if they were a good fit for us. We are so happy with our decision to be the forever home for Oscar and Angela, they have brought us so much joy and we are grateful for the foster parents and Sheila (AHF Volunteer). I highly recommend working with AHF if you are considering adding a pet to your family.
Ten years ago, we adopted our first rescue pup from Almost Home Foundation. We recently adopted the latest member of our family from Almost Home Foundation and could t imagine going anywhere else. They are an amazing group of caring people who are doing great work in our community.
In May of 2022 we had to put our sweet 12 1/2 year old golden retriever down. It was one of the saddest days of our lives. My husband and I had recently started discussing getting another golden retriever puppy. I saw a post on Facebook in early February showcasing “Mitzi” from the Almost Home Foundation and after discussing with the hubs, decided to complete an application. Her story broke my heart. Three days later “Mitzi” aka Mia was ours! We absolutely love her. She is the sweetest! I’m so happy we went the rescue route. The volunteers at AHF were wonderful to work with and very responsive to anything we needed regarding “Mitzi”. Please meet Mia!
My family and I adopted Willow (formerly Megan) from Almost Home Foundation. It was a positive experience from the beginning. We were able to foster her for a week, which was plenty of time for us to realize she was meant for our family. The process was smooth and AHF was available to answer all our questions.
My family and I decided to foster a dog for the first time ever through Almost Home Foundation. They were very helpful and supportive with the fostering process. I could tell immediately they care so much for the animals they take in! We fell in love with Elsa and decided to adopt her and make her a permanent part of our family. We will definitely keep supporting this wonderful and needed organization.
You can tell that Almost Home truly cares about their animals, they go out of their way to make sure it's a good fit for the adoptee and the adopters. They offer great advise and go the extra mile to be sure home placement is smooth and pleasant. I love that they try to foster the animals! I got to meet my dog's foster mom, Grace, and it showed what wonderful people they chose!
After seeing Neptune’s picture and reading about him I knew he was the one for me. I also saw a dog named Pluto and wondered if he and Neptune were friends due to their names. I connected with Neptune’s foster mom and planned to meet him on a Saturday morning. I got to the meeting place 45 minutes early and tried to be patient. A miracle happened and the foster mom walked in with Neptune AND Pluto. I explained to her that my plan was to eventually adopt two dogs that could be best friends. I asked about the possibility of adopting them both. It turns out they came to Almost Home Foundation together and were already friends. They came to my house for a visit a couple of days later and we had so much fun. Four days later I adopted them both. It is very evident that AHF really cares about the animals and people they work with. Nancy, the foster mom was wonderful. She happily answered my many questions and was with me every step of the way. This was such a good experience and a dream come true for me.
Back in August, I put an application for a particular dog. After meeting with the Adoption Coordinator Paige, we concluded that the dog was probably not the right fit for me. Paige helped match me with a suitable dog and passed my information to another coordinator, Jenna. Jenna was terrific to work with answering any questions and checking up on me with the foster to adopt process. I have made a new best friend with my boy Brady. I cannot thank the group enough. They really care for the animals and vet the potential adopters appropriately.
I have been working with AHF for about 5+ years. They have been wonderful. From the dogs they bring in, to what they provide the foster family and helping everyone be successful. Without AHF I wouldn't have found my forever pup!
I lost my Yorkie a few years ago and didn’t think I could ever get another pet. I then found my tiny miracle LUlu.
She is the most amazing little girl in the whole world. She took away my depression, she’s so loving.
I don’t know what she went through, but she is my miracle angel.
We adopted our 2 cats, Luke and Leia, from Almost Home in November 2020. They have been one of the best things to happen to our home besides our marriage and children. Our kids would always ask for a dog, but with our lifestyle and allergies in the family it wasn’t possible. Surprisingly cat allergies weren’t a problem, so we turned to Almost Home to find our family’s first fur babies. It was a great experience from the moment we looked on their website to the time we got to bring them home. Our kids are just as in love with them as the day we brought them home. Thanks, Almost Home, for making our home even that much more perfect!

We went to Almost Home Foundation because we decided that the time was right for us to adopt 2 kittens. My sister had previously adopted from them as well. After going on their website, we fell in love with our now 2 kitties, Luke and Leia. We were initially told they were adopted by another family but that there were other kitties at the same foster home with Rosemary, their foster mom. We scheduled an appointment to see the other kitties, and when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that Luke and Leia were available after all. Rosemary was wonderful about having our entire family to her home (even during Covid), and gave us as much time as we needed to meet all of the available kittens and answer all of our questions. After all was said and done, Luke and Leia were the ones that joined our family, and our family is so in love with our new fur babies. They are playful and loving, curious and cheeky - everything we had hoped for. We still keep in contact with Rosemary, sharing our special moments with the kitties with her!
The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that it is sometimes difficult to get in contact with someone from Almost Home. Other than that, our experience has been fantastic!
We had an amazing experience working with the Almost Home Foundation and finding the newest member of our family. The volunteers were so incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and committed. Thank you!
I've been both a volunteer and I've adopted a dog through Almost Home Foundation, and it's been nothing less than a phenomenal experience. There is ample opportunity to volunteer - I especially love walking dogs, and meeting and interacting with the sweet, precious lives that have avoided the horrible fate of kill shelters in the South. Coming to Almost Home, they are safe and well-cared for and the volunteers are dedicated to finding the dogs and cats the best forever homes and families.
Personally, I've adopted the most incredibly sweet and loving dog and I cherish every day with him. Thank you, Almost Home for enhancing my life and delivering joy in so many ways. I am forever indebted!
I had an amazing experience. You can really see how much the people at AHF care about the animals under their care. I was given all the information I could possibly need and somebody was always available to answer questions if needed. I would always recommend this place.
I used Almost Home Foundation to find these two beautiful cats. The adoption process was very thorough and easy! The foster families and volunteers at almost home care for these animals so much. The work they are doing for these animals is truly a blessing. They care for these pets, get them medical help, and love them like their own. I feel very lucky to have found this foundation and so are Hazel and Ginger (pictures).
My wonderful experience begins with the dedication of the volunteers, foster parents, the managing & fund raisers offered to AHF. I was impressed with the application procedure, & Meet & Greet leading to adoption day for my Daisy, the sweetest little gal. Thanks to Kelly & Peggy for helpful tips making a happy, smooth transition. I can’t praise AHF enough for all they do. Thanks
We adopted our dog Pebbles through Almost Home. They were pleasant to work with and made the process very easy. The kennel is clean and the volunteers take very good care of the dogs. Great place!
We found a wonderful pet. His personality is blooming. We adored him. This is the place if you are thinking about adoption. Sheila was great and foster mom Bonnie was so nice. You can tell that they both love what they do! I’ve attached a couple of photos of Tucker.
We had a wonderful experience with Almost Home Foundation! The personalized description of Izzie (who we’ve renamed Trudy) on the website made me fall in love with her immediately. The online application was thorough and relatively quick to complete, and Sheila responded quickly to emails with any questions I had. She then put us in touch with the foster family (Rosemary, president of the foundation). Once we met in person and knew we were a good fit for each other it was simple to set up an adoption date and bring her home! Everyone was so kind, considerate, and helpful - I would recommend Almost Home Foundation to anyone who is seriously considering adopting an animal into their lives! We feel so lucky to have Trudy as part of our little family and couldn’t be happier.
We had a great experience adopting from Almost Home Foundation. Kathy met us and was knowledgeable and patiently let us get to know Mouse a cat whom we wanted to adopt. We were able to adopt him after a few days. We had a follow up meeting for a vaccine Mouse needed and that was a pleasant experience as well. We absolutely love Mouse, who we renamed Max and he is doing well and getting along great with our other cat. We would highly recommend Almost Home Foundation!
We had a wonderful experience with Almost Home Foundation! After the first meeting of our 2 girls at an adoption event we were in love and started the adoption process soon after. We found out that AHF does a thorough check of their potential adoptive families, which is a really good thing. Our new family members, Kiki and Vivi are just a wonderful addition to our house. They were bonded sisters and therefore spend lots of time playing together and grooming each other. I can't imagine one being without the other so it is great that they encouraged us to adopt both of them. The whole process went smoothly and I was really impressed with all of the information, food and toys that we were given for them at the time of adoption. We were set for a little while which was nice. I'd highly recommend Almost Home Foundation.
I have adopted 2 cats and a puppy from Almost Home Foundation. We were able to meet the kittens prior to adopting and the foster mom even dropped them off to us when we were ready to adopt. The foster mom still loves these guys so we try to keep in touch. About 5 months later, we decided it was time to add a dog to the family. Almost Home worked with us and we even had the dogs come to our home to see how they would fit in with our household. I am very happy with how all 3 adoptions went and am truly grateful for Almost Home Foundation. I will continue to support them and am hoping to find some time to volunteer for them soon!
After going through a horrible experience with a different shelter, I was surprised to have been met by an amazing crew who doesn't turn imperfect animals away. They do what they need to do to protect their babies while remaining very easy to work with. Very thankful for my Polly!
We are what is known as a foster fail. We set out to foster our sweet girl Bailey and she became a part of a dog people family. We had never had a cat before and with the pandemic upon us decided to look into fostering a cat at the pleading of our youngest daughter. We contacted Almost Home and were placed with a few cats before our Bailey came into our lives. When she arrived she was under weight and very sick with an upper respiratory infection. She vomited her food, struggled with taking her meds, couldn’t meow (and still doesn’t) but through it all was a sweet, gentle cuddle girl who just wanted some love and attention. It took many vet visits, endless tests and medications to stabilize her but Almost Home was with me every step of the way and would not let us adopt her until she was healthy enough to be released. Our Bailey is a special needs kitty with feline asthma and a very sensitive stomach but we fell in love with her and were finally able to make her a permanent member of our family and she is thriving!
My experience adopting two kitties with AHF was wonderful! The adoption counselor, Kathy, was great. She was quick to respond to emails, was knowledgeable on questions I had, and was overall very kind and easy to work with. The foster mom, Rosemary, (as well as other members of her family) were great as well. Always there to answer questions about the kittens and made you feel welcome in her home. You can tell Kathy and Rosemary really care about these animals and want nothing but the best for them. Bringing our two kittens home a little over a month ago was a very exciting day and we love them very much. I would absolutely recommend Almost Home to anyone looking to adopt.
My boyfriend and I recently adopted our new furry friend, Indi! He is such a sweet cat and we love him dearly already. Working with the Almost Home Foundation was such an easy process and we have nothing but good things to say about them and the fosters parents. We highly recommend AHF to others who are considering adopting a pet! Thank you for making this such a simple and agreeable adoption process for us! We love our new baby!
After losing our sweet girl Rose far too early from renal failure her sister Josie and her parents were seriously depressed. Josie had never been an only kitty so we began the search for her new sibling(s). Our on line search led us to Almost Home and Greyson and lillie, a bonded brother and sister who were 7 months old. We submitted our application and heard back from Sheila within 24 hours. Sheila arranged for us to meet G&L and their foster Mom Emily at a local shelter. G&L seemed rather shy during our introduction but considering the environment (barking dogs, new people and a strange room) that wasn't surprising . Emily assured us they were very sweet, affectionate and playful kitties. We went home and talked it over and decided that they would be a good fit in our household. They have been part of our family now for 6 weeks and we couldn't be happier. We now have a pack of 3 cats who eat, sleep and play together. Josie is a VERY happy big sister and we are constantly entertained by their antics. G&L were obviously brought up very well by their foster Mom as they have been a total joy from day one. Thank you Almost Home for all you do!!
Our family is now complete.... we have adopted the most loving kitten sibling from AHF. They were so well taken care of during their time with the foundation that bringing them home was a breeze. Our vet was very impressed with their shots and treatment records, she had commented they were perfect! Thank you AHF.
My mom lost her cat, and she and her dog Daisy missed him terribly. She needed a cat that likes dogs to be a companion for Daisy. Almost Home helped us find the perfect fit for Mom and Daisy. Sandy, now Alex Trebek, plays non-stop and loves Daisy. The volunteers at AHF went out of their way to help my mom with the adoption paperwork (she's not a computer person!) and they were very patient and cheerful. She is very happy with the results!

Our newest additions could not be more precious! Our kitties were so well cared for in foster and Almost Home Foundation was incredibly helpful and timely in responding and getting us arranged for a meet and greet! They followed up repeatedly after and truly care about their rescues! What a great group to work with!
We adopted our dog Kona from Almost Home Foundation in 2016. They were great to work with and made the process of finding a dog for our household (allergies and another dog) very easy. The volunteers at AHF were extremely helpful in our visits and helped us find the perfect dog for our household and made it a smooth transition throughout the entire process.
AHF will be the first place we go to again when we are ready to add another dog to our household.
I reached out to a volunteer (Kathy) and put in an application to meet a male cat (Ben). His foster mom, Rosemary, welcomed me into her home and introduced me to Ben. However, her other foster cat, Belle, interrupted this meet-and-greet. Belle’s liveliness and refusal to be ignored stole my heart. I loved her immediately! I felt guilty that I didn’t spark like this with Ben. Rosemary assured me Ben would find a good home. She told me the cat picks the owner and that Belle picked me. She informed me Ben was scheduled for another meet-and-greet that afternoon. A day later I brought my kitty crate to officially bring Belle home. Rosemary told me Ben was leaving that day too. I’ll be furrever grateful to Kathy and Rosemary for helping me find the perfect kitty for me! Or rather, introducing me to Belle, allowing her to pick me!
I adopted 2 bonded kittens, Arigato and Merci, from Almost Home Foundation and the experience was overwhelmingly positive. The AHF medical coordinator facilitated the initial meet and greet and the adoption and was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the process including coordinating vet appointments at locations that were most convenient for me. Their foster mom was welcoming and very invested in finding good homes for all of the kittens in the litter. The kittens are so well-socialized, playful and affectionate, which I believe is a direct result of having been fostered and cared for so well in a home setting, something that Almost Home Foundation seems committed to providing for all of the animals in their care. I couldn't be happier with these two little wild munchkins and I credit Almost Home Foundation (and their foster mom) for the kittens positive growth and development. Almost Home Foundation partnered so well with me as a new adopter to ensure that the kittens had an easy transition to their new home and I recommend them without reservation to anyone seeking to add a new animal to the family.
I have always adopted from Almost Home and they were always so great. I recently lost my 2 older dogs that were from Almost Home. When we decided to adopt another dog we knew we had to go with Almost Home. Kelly was great and made the adoption process so easy and care free. She was amazing and Eddie couldn't have had a better foster.
The volunteers were very understanding and professional. Especially Kelly the foster mom she was amazing!! She Introduced me to the dog and answered all my questions. The adoption process was very smooth and I now have a new best pal !!
Almost Home Foundation connected us with our sweet doggie, Ginger! We were able to meet with the foster parent, Kelly, before adopting Ginger. Kelly was incredibly helpful with the adoption process and gave us a chance to spend time with Ginger before welcoming her into our home. Both Kelly and members from Almost Home were in touch even after we brought Ginger home. We feel so lucky to have found Almost Home! We love our new family member!
We had an older dog that died suddenly and left his even older brother dog, who was very sick, quite depressed. We Riggs on the AHF site and fell in love with him on the first visit. The staff was very cautious because of our old Buddy. They actually brought Riggs to the house to see how they would interact. He was remarkably gentle. The next day he was ours. A couple months later, we lost our old guy. A rough year. Riggs said he needed a little brother. We called AHF and they had this little furball that just came in. Riggs took one look and showed him to the car. They bonded immediately.
We have been very impressed with the screening process of AHF. They are diligent in finding the right pup for the right home. We have even had a family member adopt two pups from. AHF since then.
We strongly recommend AHF for prospective dog parents.
Almost Home Foundation is a wonderful rescue organization that truly cares about the well being of each and every animal that comes through it's doors. Last fall I adopted two shepherds that are brothers and don't know what I would do without them! They have been the greatest addition to our family and we are extremely lucky to have found them. We began by first fostering and then decided to adopt when we realized they were already home and couldn't imagine our lives without them. I am forever grateful for Kim's assistance with the fostering process and still enjoy volunteering at the weekly Dog Adoption Show to this day! I have shifted from an adopter to a volunteer and absolutely love it! I highly recommend not only adopting from this great organization, but volunteering as well!
Almost Home Foundation is committed to rescuing as many animals as possible and finding each one the perfect home. I was lucky enough to experience this firsthand! They are passionate, professional, and extremely helpful. They made the adoption process feel very personal and they were very thorough. This was very important to me especially since this was my first adoption. I would highly recommend Almost Home Foundation to others! Thank you so much!
Over the years our family has in total adopted 6 animals, both dogs and cats, which should sum up our love and loyalty for Almost Home Foundation. We love this rescue so much because they CARE. So many rescues adopt out so many animals without question- which I understand, they want to be able to rescue as many as possible. AHF rescues and adopts out animals by the dozens weekly, but they take the time to make sure the animal will be a good fit- which is very appreciated and shows that the rescue wants the best for each animal they rescue.
One of our cats recently passed away in December and we were absolutely devastated. This was my first big "loss". While she was sick, we made a trip to PetSmart to get her more of her food that she liked and I noticed all of the cats at the adoption show. Most were kittens, and 1 adult cat. There were so many people giving attention to the kittens, but none to this adult cat, so of course I had to. I fell in love with this cat and knew when the time was right, if he was still available, I wanted to take him home.
When I felt ready to bring home another cat, Morris was still available. We went to the adoption show and they were SO informative about him. The volunteers were very informative about all of the cats. They answered all of our questions and let us know the next steps in the process.
There were others who were interested in Morris, but we ultimately were the lucky ones to be able to take him home- which we are SO grateful for. He is such a bundle of joy. Without AHF we wouldn't have all of our babies with us. We are so appreciative of everything they have done for us, for Morris, and for all of the animals they continue to rescue. The world needs more good people like them.
We adopted for the first time with Almost Home Foundation and the adoption process went well! Britt, our labrador/retriever mix has been with us since December of 2020 and she is a delight! We want to thank Gianna, Ursula and Jenna for working with us and and seeing that we were a good fit for Britt. We were impressed at the process that included a first time observation of our interaction with Britt, the follow-up home inspection, and their availability in answering any of our questions (which we did have many). We had been looking for a rescue dog since March 2020 and are glad we came upon Almost Home Foundation in our search. Thank you Almost Home Foundation-Britt has found her home!
We have adopted from Almost Home 2 times and both times everything went great. All of the volunteers are great compassionate people. The fosters are amazing too. It's so nice to adopt a dog and know something about their likes and dislikes. The adoption process went smoothly and I would recommend Almost Home to anyone who is considering adoption. I believe adoption is the only way to get a pet since there are so many pets in need. My sister also adopted from Almost Home and had the same experience.
It has taken a year to decide on adopting a puppy. We truly can’t tell you how wonderful the experience was- from the foster mom to the adoption process! Thank you almost home for our completely home!
Thank You SO Much Almost Home! Very Excited to Have Adopted a Cat through this Foundation! Great Experience and a Wonderful team to help find the Perfect Pet! I definitely Recommend this Foundation to anyone looking to adopt an animal. Great communication and very helpful in finding exactly what I was looking for. Very Impressive and so many caring people that take care of these of Animals. Such an Amazing Organization! Thanks Again!
For the longest time we couldn’t decide if we should adopt a dog or buy a specific puppy breed. Today I can tell you that the best decision will always be “adopt”..... giving these little ones a second chance of a forever home is so satisfactory and brings more joy than any bought puppy no matter how cute they might be . Almost home foundation care so much for every pet they look after. Carol who was our first contact answered my email very quickly and let us know our puppy was available. She was very thorough in making sure we were the best fit for the dog we wanted. Once she was convinced the process was very quick. Kim did our paperwork in no time and we were on our way home. My family is happy to have a “pay it forward puppy” which means that our payment for the puppy will help others in the organization. Every person we met was so dedicated to the cause of rehoming and having safe and healthy pets. It’s a wonderful foundation! We thank you for our new family member! We are in love with him and thankful that you saved him from a bad situation! Also, we are thankful that the foundation provides him with his necessary shots and neutering. Keep up the excellent work!
Everyone at Almost Home was knowledgeable and kind. We started out wanting to be a foster family for kittens. We waited almost a month before we finally got the call about a young female cat. We took her in and fell in love with her. She was so friendly and confident in our home. After only 4 days we decided to adopt her. Which is called "foster fail" sounds bad, but we had a wonderful experience with Almost Home. They are really great people over there doing wonderful things for animals. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
We had been looking for a cat to bring into our home. We had lost our 18 year old tabby a few months prior. We weren't looking for a kitten and wanted a cat that was at least a few years old. We had started looking on line and didn't see any cat that just "jumped out" at us. We arrived to the PetSmart in Bloomingdale, IL minutes after their adoption event had ended. The volunteer (Kathy) was nice enough to let us come and view the cats that were still available. We met Clark first and that was it! He was in one of the upper cages and when we opened the door he trusted me right from the start to allow me to take him from the cage and put him on the floor. He wanted to play with the wand toys and we just took to him and he took to us right away! He is 3 years old which gives him plenty of energy and loves his play time. He has taken to me as I am still currently working at home full time (and work a lot at home in regular times) so he is my little assistant during my work hours. He is so sweet and also loves to cuddle. The adoption process was very easy and we were on our way within an hour or so of arriving to the store. It's a Match!
We have been thoroughly satisfied with our experience with Almost Home Foundation adopting our new pet. We were able to make a timely appointment which was handled by wonderful caretakers. The followthrough at the hospital was efficient and caring. We even received a call at 9:30 the first night to see how our new dog was faring! All involved with our new pet were caring and responsible. We have been very favorably impressed with this rescue organization!!
I’ve been impressed with this organization from the start of our adoption search. Board members, handlers, fosters and other volunteers demonstrate absolute care and a genuine interest in the rescued animals’ well-being. The individual that fostered our newly adopted family member had a heart of gold and is a true advocate for making a difference in these animals’ lives. The dog adoption experience and depth of information provided to us was great.
I LOVE AHF! I’ve been volunteering with them for over 10 years and they are amazing. They care deeply about each and every one of their rescues. One thing they do is home visits before adoptions. This is the key to a great rescue story! Making sure the animal is going to a safe, warm, loving family is the best feeling ever. That’s why I volunteer and foster for this amazing group.
My wife and I just adopted a dog through the Almost Home Foundation. We had been fostering it for a few weeks now. Since our first contact with the Foundation, which took place through the volunteers Gianna and Lynn, all attention and help has been provided to us. They provided all the information and fully supported us throughout the fostering period, as did the volunteer Cindy. After we brought the puppy home we had doubts about situations we faced with it and they were at our disposal all the time, responding to emails and making phone calls. They have shown a high level of accountability for the dog's well-being and responsiveness. The Almost Home Foundation is very serious about its work and all the interactions we had with its volunteers showed this behavior.
We had an excellent experience adopting a dog through Almost Home. His foster parents couldn't have been more helpful and supportive. The adoption coordinator was well organized and provided lots of useful information. We were very happy with the process throughout, including lots of communication. We highly recommend adopting from and supporting Almost Home, they do a great job.
I became aware of AHF thru a friend. Over 10 years ago I adopted my cat Ares (then Stevie) from. I went to "look at" a main coon cat that was arriving and needed a home. When I got to the adoption show I was shown Ares and told he was sent in the other cats place. Being a flame point Siamese mix he was the complete opposite of the mane coon I was expecting to meet. The picture here is from the day I met and adopted Ares. When he was handed to me and he jumped out of my hands to drape himself over my shoulder, well... it was a done deal. Ares had ear mites and had (still has) a heart murmur. He is also now on medicated food due to reoccurring crystals. He was just in for his yearly where they said he was GREAT. Heart murmur will always be an issue, but his blood work and urine tests shows he is in perfect health. Never had a dental but that didn't stop the vet from re-checking his age on the chart stating based on how white and perfect his teeth look she would have guessed 5-6 years old. Anyhow. since becoming aware of AHF, thanks to Ares, I started volunteering as a dog walker. I then was an opener at the kennel, a foster, transport and adoption coordinator. I have and continue to support AHF as best I can. They helped me add my Ares to my life, which is the best thing, but playing my part in helping other dogs and cats find their forever homes is so important to me.
My experience with Almost Home is exactly how I wished when I adopted my fur baby. Their team and foster families were responsive, knowledgeable, and SO loving and caring for the animals. Thanks to them, I have my little girl, Maisie.
I’ve wanted to get a family dog FOREVER! We waited till the perfect dog came along, which felt like forever. We searched Petfinder daily, contacted TONS of shelters both local and in other states early morning and late evenings. We received so many recommendations for local shelters but only a few had dogs that met our needs, if that. We had pretty high needs that our forever dog would be kid friendly and dog friendly, although we don’t have any other pets, we LOVE our neighborhood dogs. It seemed like all these dogs were going so fast. It wasn’t until a Wednesday night where I just glanced at Almost Home Foundation’s website to see if there were any new dogs posted. Sure enough, Cadbury (now Piper) was listed. I immediately sent an email (at 9:36pm) that Wednesday night and received a response from the foster mom at 10:18pm. The foster mom was incredibly kind and helpful. The next day, we met her and we instantly fell in love. Cadbury (now Piper) was brought home on April 24th. It was an easy process, and we are forever thankful and blessed to give Cadbury a forever home. Although we rescued her, she has rescued me (and my family). Jennifer, the amazing foster mom, will forever be in our lives. I am grateful to have been patient to be able to have rescued a sweet puppy from Almost Home Foundation. We will always recommend them to all of our family, friends and strangers. And we look forward to rescuing more animals through them in the future! Thank you AHF for being AMAZING!
We absolutely love everyone at Almost Home Foundation (AHF)! We first started fostering for AHF in April of 2020 and we never want to stop. Every single person from AHF that we have worked with has been helpful, generous, & kind. They support us by providing supplies, training, & advice whenever needed. AHF requires dogs to be fostered for at least a week before being adopted so that the foster can get to know the dog and then the foster parent(s) get to lead the process for finding the best fit home for that dog since they know the dog best. We even became foster failures and adopted one of our foster dogs. We very highly recommended AHF to anyone looking to foster or adopt a dog or cat.
We adopted a beautiful female dog Luka (Annabeth) from Almost Home Foundation.
She was taken care very well while fostered, and we had such a smooth adoption process thru them.
Everyone we met in the organization was wonderful. Thank you so much. We are so happy to be Luka's forever family.
We were looking to adopt a dog and looked into multiple adoption agencies. This foundation was the only one that got back to on multiple dogs until we found the one that was right for us. The process of waiting for a dog felt like forever but it moved very quickly once the right dog was found. Everything was straight forward and simple. I would definitely recommend this foundation for anyone looking to adopt a furry friend.
I was looking for a bonded pair with foster based rescues. Let's be honest.. i needed someone to hand me 2 dogs on a platter. We knew we wanted 2 and I couldn't walk into a shelter and only walk put with 2!!!
Our foster saw our message and debated since they were bonded.. but Symon would likely get over his goster sister Sashi (now Marcie) getting adopted that weekend.
But you see Symon was listed as special needs and had been with her for over a year. He has a rod in one leg and walks with a limp. Well
. After reading that I knew I needed him! I have hardware in my spine and walk with a limp!!
Well it was love at first sight! I had actually took a screen shot of Sashi since she was the type I was looking for.. hound mix!
We have had them for almost 3 years now and their love for each other is truly amazing.
I am so happy their foster thought she would take a chance on us.. if it meant Sy could get a home AND have his sister!! How perfect!!
Thank you Almost Home Foundation!! Our experience has been amazing and we are so grateful!
Our family was referred to Almost Home Foundation by someone who had adopted a wonderful dog from them. We started to foster dogs with Almost Home & found they have a gift to select the most amazing dogs. We successfully fostered dogs until two years ago; we became foster failures 'twice' that year with two senior German Shepherds. I'm sure the folks at Almost Home got tired of our constant texts and photos -- but we were so happy to have Shadow & Sadie as part of our family. We only had Shadow for the last 14 months of his life, but those were certainly fourteen memorable months! He had spirit and an unstoppable zest for life until his last day. We still have Sadie -- who continues to bring happiness to our entire family every day. Almost Home Foundation has a way of selecting dogs with great dispositions. Everyone at Almost Home has such genuine care & concern for each pup (& cat! -- yes . . we have 'cat' stories with them, too)! We never feel we are on our own; they are always available & helpful to assure every foster & adoption situation is the best for both the dog & the adoptive family. We've fostered for other rescue groups, but Almost Home Foundation is without a doubt the best one to work with -- they are responsible for bringing so much joy to our family over the years : )
We lost our two fur babies within 24 days of each other; old age and cancer. We were so sad and saw Benji, a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix on Pefinder and then referred to Almost Home. It was a beautiful match. Almost Home was very careful to assure that we would be a good parents for Benji and he made our tears turn to smiles.
Because we felt so confident with Benji, and the evaluation, knowledge and assurance of good health, provided by Almost Home, we decided to complete our family again and we adopted Scout, a Shih Tzu.
Our two Almost Home rescues love each other and we love them so much. So thank you Almost Home for giving us this gift of making our family whole again.
You are a great group of people who love animals so much. It shows! I hope you accomplish many adoptions and you become a favorite charity of many animal lovers. You are now a favorite of ours.
We have rescued our beautiful Paisley from almost home foundation. I know they have been around forever an hour and amazing group of volunteers and rescue dogs. I recommend them 100% to anyone. Help save a life and read them very high. They deserve it for all they do. They are amazing!!!!
I have adopted 2 animals from Almost Home Foundation. I have witnessed firsthand their commitment to rescuing as many animals as possible and their dedication to finding each animal a loving home. When you adopt from this organization you can be sure that you are supporting an organization that is truly focused on animal welfare.
I started volunteering with Almost Home Foundation about four years ago. I have fostered dogs of all ages. I have just experienced a mamma dog giving birth at my home. I fostered a 18 year old poodle. I have received such joy with every foster dog that comes into my home. I have had the pleasure of working along side of some wonderful volunteers.

I have been a foster mom with Almost Home Foundation since January 2020. The support they offer to fosters is tremendous. I was set up with a knowledgeable foster buddy who answered all of my questions so quickly. If she didn't know the answer, she included me on texts with other people so that I would get my answers as soon as they were found. If any of my foster dogs needed medical attention, the medical director made appointments right away for me and they gave me all of the information that the vets gave them. I always feel supported, acknowledged, appreciated, and heard with Almost Home Foundation and will continue to foster with them for many years to come.
this Group is great to work with. We actually became volunteers after adopting because their values really aligned with us. They do home checks to be sure a dog is a good fit. The people are very friendly and I would highly recommend Almost Home to anyone looking to adopt. We have adopted from them twice now.
I have gone back to this Rescue over and over again. These volunteers work tirelessly to raise funds, raise awareness and care for those animals who were previously let down by their humans.
All of these men and women do this out of love, they have jobs, homes, families and pets of their own. Thank you Almost Home Foundation. You rock!
Adopted 2 great dogs from almosthome foundation. Great rescue ,caring people,Also volunteer there fostering puppies that would of been put to sleep .
I love this rescue. Not only does it help the animals in need, but also the people that need assistance to keep their animals. I have fostered for over 5 years now. We take the time to learn about the animals and their unique traits. Love them like our own and find the perfect family. No matter how long it takes they stay with us. I love to watch them come out of their shell and be a real dog. Many have had major trauma in their lives. We work thru it. Build their trust and earn their love. I have seen so many sad cases turn into fantastic happy endings.
We are here for the animals completely heart and sole.
My first experience with almost home was 4 years ago when I adopted my sweet baby, Crystal. Then almost a year later, my mother adopted another one of their cats, Mikhail. I have never in my life had such sweet and absolutely amazing cats, so I felt the need to help other cats get adopted. Almost 2 years ago my boyfriend adopted 2 cats from them, Sammie and Shadow. So, now we have 3 cats living living together and another that visits
this organization is amazing!! i volunteer with them and it’s obvious that they care deeply about making sure every animal has a loving home to go to. i highly recommend checking them out!

We have fostered and adopted from Almost Home. They are a wonderful organization that cares about their animals!
I adopted my first cat from Almost Home foundation back in 2011 and now have three!. They knew exactly what cats would be best for me and the other cat(s).
Great organization with caring people.
I have had the pleasure of meeting many felines through Almost Home. A really wonderful group of people.
This charity helps adopt dogs and cats find their forever home. They work with all breeds and ages. They are an all volunteer workforce and are well respected in the community.
Both of our absolutely fabulous and fun felines and one of our dogs were adopted from Almost Home Foundation! Couldn’t imagine our lives without them!
I have been fostering dogs for them for six years. I have seen them pay for many medical treatments to save a dog. Even cancer treatments. I have never seen them give up on an animal. They are really great people and a fantastic organization.
My family and I adopted 3 kitties from Almost Home in April 2008 and love our babies. We then started volunteering as a foster family in August for bottle feed kittens and abandoned kittens. A few years later, we approached the board about doing a hot dog stand as a fund raiser, which turned into a big hit. They are open to ideas on how to help more animals. I love the big hearts that everyone has in this group. And it is like joining a giant family.
Almost home celebrated their 10 year anniversary and says they have rehomed over 10,000 animals in that timeframe. i've been acquainted with this organization for about nine of those years and watch them grow over that timeframe. It's quite amazing that this place is 100% volunteer operated. That means all the donations to go to welfare and treating medical needs of the animals.
It's quite remarkable that the founders and board members can still be found almost every week at the adoption shows. One of the founders comes to the kennel every day to take care of the animals. The level of involvement here is quite amazing.
They also have many people that donate a lot of time in coordinating the Foster network, medical needs, and care of the animals. This is a very worthy charity to donate to in my opinion.
Review from Guidestar
I have been a volunteer for 5 years now. Not only do myself and husband foster dogs, we also have adopted two of our very own AHF dogs! We couldn't imagine our lives without our 2 AHF pups Oliver & Wrigley. Wrigley was rescued from Hurricane Katrina too and AHF saved 40 Hurricane Katrina animal victims.Oliver's was rescued from Southern, IL. I also participate in fundraisers which i enjoy raising money for the homeless animals. AHF is truly in it to save the dogs & cats who desperately need rescue and give them a second chance at life!
My wife and I have volunteered with Almost Home Foundation for the past 9 years. We have been involved with fostering, walking kennel dogs, participating in fundraisers, and the system that maintains our animal data base. We have seen the organization grow over these years from a handful of volunteers and dogs and cats to well over 100 dogs and cats and over 100 volunteers.
Almost Home is a foster based rescue. We foster dogs until they are adopted. Over the years we have fostered over 120 dogs. And over the years we have adopted 4 of these fosters. I spend between 20 and 30 hours per week on activities related to Almost Home. I am a member of the technology team of the organization.
