Adoptnow
Review for Friends Of Paws In Prison Inc, Lockhart, TX, USA
I have a somewhat unique experience with this program as I am both an adopter and a board member. My experience back in 2017 as an adopter was remarkable. From the minute my application was received until my pup was placed in my arms I felt valued and seen. I was given many personal details about my pup to help her transition more easily to our household.
I particularly cherish the handwritten letters that I received from her trainers. And I appreciated how the administrators checked in periodically to see how we were doing.
Now, serving as Adoption Coordinator, I have an even greater appreciation for this unique program that is so much more than a dog rescue group. There are many moving parts that contribute to the successful placement of a dog.
The inmate trainers are educated by our professional trainer and Executive Director. They, in turn, educate each other in how to train the dogs. Each phase is carefully monitored until the dog is deemed ready to graduate from our program. This is a cause for great celebration among our female inmates.
When a potential adopter applies, and goes through all their steps, I have the privilege of matching them with a dog. A successful adoption is a joyous thing!!
