To say that volunteering with Sister Corps is life changing is an understatement.

I spent a week in Oklahoma working on homes damaged in tornadoes a year earlier. We worked hard but one of the most amazing things was seeing how our lifetimes of experience came together to do very big things for people who had been waiting so long to get their lives back to normal.

We built decks and stairs and ramps - but the best thing we built were the friendships with each other and the homeowners. The thrill of watching Linda walk into the front door of her house that had been inaccessible to her for over a year is something I will never forget . Her smile and her son's satisfaction in seeing something big happen for them is something I will always treasure. This week also taught me that I can do things - big things.

Sister Corps volunteers work hard to give the homeowners a great experience. They are organized and ready to pitch in however they are needed.

We did work hard. We supported each other. We made friendships that we will cherish. We had the time of our lives. I can't wait to do it again.
