Volunteering with Sister Corp has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. After retiring, I found purpose, strength, and connection through this incredible organization. Over the past year and a half, I’ve traveled to North Carolina, San Diego, and Florida, helping families rebuild after devastating floods and hurricanes. I even purchased a camper van to travel to sites across the country. The work is meaningful, and the impact is real. Sister Corp, led by a dedicated team of leaders, organizes everything so we have the accommodations, materials, tools, and support we need to do the work of an Army. The camaraderie is just as compelling as the impact we are making. The women I’ve met are genuinely inspiring—talented, selfless, and full of heart. I’ve made lifelong friends and unforgettable memories. I can’t wait for our next trip to Black Mountain, NC!

I had the opportunity to join Sister Corps on the Morgan City, LA, project. It was life changing for me and I can honestly say, I receive more out of working to serve others than maybe our clients we assist do! I have worked on an additional five projects, most recently Steinhatchee, FL. Each project is different, but bottom line is we are serving others. I have learned a variety of skills. There will come a day when I can no longer physically do this kind of work, but today is not the day! The camaraderie of our groups of women is unbelievable. A bond like no other. Every individual I have worked with is so dedicated to others in need and to each other. I am forever grateful to Sister-Corps for so many reasons. I now serve on the Sister-Corps Advisory Panel.

There is so much I want to say about this Sister Corps. First and foremost is that we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those affected by disasters. I’ve made close friends with women from all over the U.S. We have come together with the same goals; to help others, develop friendships, and learn new skills. This is life changing program for the victims of disasters, and for the sisters of Sister Corps. I am now confident in using power tools, hanging and taping drywall, building door frames, mounting doors, installing cabinetry, baseboard and trim. I am looking forward to furthering my knowledge of construction, and helping families move back into their homes.

I was lucky enough to be able to assist on a project with this fabulous group of women. Giving their time, traveling at their own expense (some from long distances), learning new skills so that they can help on projects and always so caring and supportive. I can’t say enough about this organization. This is the best non-profit I have ever worked with.

I was honored to join this group in Port Aransas after Hurricane Harvey.
It was sun up to sun down with these talented women. I saw the care and dedication. There were jobs to do, and they got done with total respect for those affected by the storm. Even with all the devastation, they brought their smiles and determination to make things better. Amazing!

This group of women is extraordinary. I've been lucky enough to volunteer on a project with them and see first hand the dedication and passion they have helping people affected by disasters. All on their own time and also on their own dime getting to the projects. They fly and drive from all over the country to assist. The skill, determination, and genuine caring is unparalleled.

I don't have a story to tell about Sister-Corp as I've not yet volunteered. I will say that I've been a member for a time now and do assist in donations and the wish list they have on Amazon. I love reading the Facebook post and finding out what they have done for communities all over. The outpouring of love, talent and time they spend helping others that would not of had the means to repair or replace their homes. The clean ups they have done after a disaster is amazing. These women are angels to those they help. They have my deepest respect and love for who they are and what they do.

I had the opportunity to join Sister corp, and we went to Port Aransas and cleaned the beach, painted a fence and concrete boats. Additionally, we went to Kentucky and cleaned up after a tornado. The camaraderie is wonderful and even though I am a bit older than the average, they treated me as an equal. The women are dedicated to helping others.

I have had the honor of volunteering with Sister-Corps twice in 2024. This is an amazing non-profit that brings women together to help communities in need. My first project was helping repair a home in Shawnee, OK that was damaged by a tornado and the 2nd was helping a family in Spokane, WA who lost everything in the wildfires. It is a wonderful thing to be able to help others and Sister-Corps finds those in need after natural disasters and works with organizations in the affected communities to make sure we are providing the needed support.

I volunteered with Sister Corps for the first time just a couple of months ago. I was awed by the caliber of women who led the effort and the level of organization that went into it. SC provided tools, instruction, and guidance the entire time. Costs were kept low by staying in a campground and by networking with donors. I have some carpentry skills which came in handy but I learned how to do flooring. Not only do I want to volunteer again, I also donate to Sister Corps. I just believe in its mission that strongly!

To say that volunteering with Sister Corps is life changing is an understatement.

I spent a week in Oklahoma working on homes damaged in tornadoes a year earlier. We worked hard but one of the most amazing things was seeing how our lifetimes of experience came together to do very big things for people who had been waiting so long to get their lives back to normal.

We built decks and stairs and ramps - but the best thing we built were the friendships with each other and the homeowners. The thrill of watching Linda walk into the front door of her house that had been inaccessible to her for over a year is something I will never forget . Her smile and her son's satisfaction in seeing something big happen for them is something I will always treasure. This week also taught me that I can do things - big things.

Sister Corps volunteers work hard to give the homeowners a great experience. They are organized and ready to pitch in however they are needed.

We did work hard. We supported each other. We made friendships that we will cherish. We had the time of our lives. I can't wait to do it again.

My job in the “real world” was School Counselor. With Sister Corps I have been given the opportunity to touch lives after actual storms. We help to physically repair homes. I can operate any power tool in our trailer. My skill list grows with each project.
The real reason I keep working on projects is the relationships. We make a difference in the life of the family we work for. Our teams develop strong relationships as we work together.
Rebuilding homes and enriching lives.

I participated in my first Sister Corps project in Aberdeen Mississippi this spring and have more projects on my radar. It’s incredible what this group of women can accomplish in a week, but even more impressive to see how much work goes on behind the scenes to make everything come together. It’s a pleasure and honor to be associated with like minded women that all serve with the same goal in mind. Keep on keeping on ladies❤️

Sister Corps has done great work across the US. Last year they organized a donation drive to help people in the Texas Panhandle who were affected by devastating wild fires. In a short period of time donations made it straight to desperate people who lost homes, crops, machinery, and basic supplies. I’m proud of Sister Corps.

In Eugene, Oregon, we are working with Sleep In Heavenly Peace, that makes beds for children that do not have beds to sleep on. We supply bunk beds, mattress, linen and bedspreads for the beds we deliver. The excitement on the children’s faces speaks enthusiastically how much it means to them to get their own bed! Wonderful to watch them jump into a bed of their own. I assist volunteers at one of the many assembly centers. Our next build will be with the University of Oregons football team this summer.

Port Aransas Hurricane Harvey Relief, Cards for Hospitalized Kids, Round Up Your Recipes for CA Fires, Firefighter Bundle of Thanks for CA Fires and Western Kentucky Tornado Relief are all Sister-Corps events that I have volunteered to participate in. Different circumstances, different needs, different parts of the country….one thing that is the consistent is Sister-Corps arrives with heavy tools and tough yet empathetic women to make a difference in those whose lives are affected. As a volunteer, I am a changed person. I leave each event with a full heart knowing that I received more than what I gave. If you want to make a tremendous impact, Sister-Corps is the non-profit to get involved in!

SISTER CORP EXPERIENCE

You might say Sister Corps is sacrificing for others who are in need but it’s much more than that. It’s participation in an organization that gives you much more than what you give.
I’ve taken part in 2 Sister Corps events, the inaugural one in Port Aransas, Texas and another in Kentucky, both have been exceptionally rewarding experiences.
The sweat equity, the Sister Corps friendships accrued , the personal growth from giving to and consoling those in need has been priceless. I strongly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to support Sister Corps through donations or other means to do so.

I saw a post on the Sister-Corps site about the need for volunteers in Western Kentucky for tornado help.
I was ready to go.
My life changed in those few days there in April 2022 and I found what had been missing in my retirement. Two Eastern Kentucky flood projects in 2022, 2023 brought more of the same. Helping and giving back to others is what matters to us by feeding people or painting, picking up debris or filling food banks. Being with the Sister-Corps makes it so easy to do whatever needs to be done with good nature and grace, and I'm hoping to still be able to join in the relief projects for years to come. Seeing the residents coping with the damage and loss of life and community from the flooding and tornado but still showing kindness to us and others still makes me tear up.
All the women involved provide their own transportation either driving or flying in, tools, equipment and housing while there. Please support this talented,, outstanding ,kind group!

My first project I worked on was painting a home for a needy couple. The husband fell and broke his hip the day before we started. We had the front done when he returned from the hospital. They sat in the car crying. Overwhelmed by the progress we made in such a short time.
The second project I participated in was Luggage followed. We had lunch and brought many items for the women's shelter. It filled my whole trunk. The shelter was so thrilled by the volume of donations.
My 3rd project I worked on was painting a shelter for a county park. Not having funds or hours to put on the project, we contacted the park ranger we got the approval al to stain the old shelter. 5 women showed up and we got the job done. The ranger came when we were done. He was overwhelmed by such a nice job and how we helped the county.
My 4th project was beach clean up on the Gulf by Port Aransas, Tx. We cleaned up many, many pounds of garbage from the city beach.
My next project is building beds for kids in need of a bed. This will include 14 women building 12 beds in one day.

I had recently retired early when I learned about Sister Corps, and was able to go to Louisiana to work Ida recovery with this organization (3/2022). I worked debris removal, which was hard work in the heat and humidity, but WOW, the all women crew I worked with were incredibly hard workers and fun. We worked to help families who were in need of help, and they were so appreciative and kind, and so resilient. I have since gone on to a few other projects with Sister Corps, and will continue to do so as long as I am able. Such a strong, supportive, kind and capable group of women. It is wonderful to be able to help others as well as learn new skills such as drywall installation and carpentry work. I loved being able to work hard, tow off a load of debris, get it to the dump and come back for more to help others, all while having fun and laughing and while I am also being taken care of by others in this women’s group that gets things done!

I first came to Sister Corps in 2021 in Louisiana this experience sits on my heart!
I was a part of a team that came into a wonderful man’s home and completed a Sheetrock job. The other woman and I were responsible for completing a kitchen and living area. After meeting the owner we all worked diligently and completed all 4 rooms and hallway before our days were through. This organization was not just responsible for what we had completed in this home it is responsible for all the love and friendships I have acquired along the way.!

In November 2017 I joined the first Sister Corps project to do relief work and clean up in Port Aransas, Texas. This was my first volunteer of this sort. The weather was not being our friend, but for five days we were out with the rakes and shovels, and oversize trash bags, clearing muddy debris, from the homes and streets in the Port Aransas.
I remember painting the interior of an entire house of a woman whose place has been ruined by hurricane Harvey. The gratitude and camaraderie of both those who gave, and those who received was heartwarming.
Being a retired nurse, I was also on the medical care team, making certain all of our team members were cared for in case of an injury.
Five years later, the members of that first Sister Corps project reunited in Port Aransas. Driving down those streets, we remembered the way it had been. It was wonderful to see how Port Aransas came back from Hurricane Harvey and it’s a thriving little town.
And of course, when we went back in 2022 we didn’t leave it as we found it. A group of Sisters hand painted a 50 foot section of fence at a local daycare center. And after that, we all hit the beach for a cleanup of debris there.
The camaraderie , passion and love that the Sister Corps projects bring not only to the communities they serve, but in the group members themselves ,is a testament to the heart of this organization.

From Sister-Corps inception in 2017 (due to Hurricane Harvey) I knew this was my chance to help others beyond my own community. Myself being affected by several natural disasters, I knew what the needs and the broken hearts felt like. The fact that this was being led by all women was even more enticing-I knew I could comfortably “fit in” and not be questioned as to my “strength” when compared to a man.
After the first project in Port Aransas, the fire was blazing within me and I knew I would never question why I joined this amazing volunteer disaster-relief group! ALL volunteers pay their way (food, lodging & travel) ALL donations go to those affected by disasters! Whether the woman is 21 or 81-all heart and energy is given to each project! The work could be debris removal, sheetrock, flooring, painting etc. or just a sympathetic listening ear-if a volunteer isn’t at a project site, they are back at Base Camp making the behind-the-scenes run smoothly, there is something for EVERY volunteer to do! Health and Safety are a top priority as well, with a medical team always available. Training opportunities abound-skills and self-esteem are found within each woman that she may not even know she had! Sister-Corps is growing by leaps and bounds-communities are left with physical progress and all hearts are fulfilled!
Joining Sister-Corps is one decision in my life I will never question! I have learned and gained more than I ever imagined and have become a better, more-well rounded woman than I ever thought possible! Sister-Corps is truly an organization that you can say “who helped who”?!!!

I have volunteered with this group and have been touched to tears by the kindness, generosity, love and willingness to help by so many women. I helped several years ago paint a house for a fellow sister whose husband was very ill. He had been feeling terrible that he wasn't able to do what was needed anymore and his wife, a SOTF member was working full time at work and caring for him at home. One of the sisters heard about this and took charge and planned the work event. The number of women that showed up with supplies and paint clothes was remarkable. There was one lady in her 20's but the rest of us were in our 60's to mid 70's. Through rain, scaffolding issues to get to the peaks, we got that whole house painted, a large picnic table stained and a smaller building painted in two days. Tired but joyful we all were. What a blessing to be able to work hard for someone that needed the help and were relieved the job was done. Sister-Corps funded the majority of the project, what a blessing that was. We all brought food and had pot lucks and ate well. There was so much laughter and fun while we worked. We all met new friends at that event and still stay in touch. I will remember this project the rest of my life, sore muscles and all.
Another project that I helped with was the Luggage of Love Luncheon. We had a lunch and at least 12 women showed up with their cars full of necessities to be donated to a domestic abuse shelter. Most of us didn't even know each other (but we do now!) I was quite shocked at the amount of items that were donated that day, it took two car loads to deliver them. The generosity of the women in Sister-corps is totally unbelievable. You ask and it will get done.

When I first learned about the Sister-Corps Hurricane Harvey project at Port Aransas in 2017, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. Actually getting there and seeing the devastation was heartbreaking. Our team worked at removing debris, so very much of it! Everyday we worked side by side toward our goal. Lifetime friendships were formed. I love the accomplishments and comradery of Sister-Corps!

"Many volunteer groups had worked with me and 'Did what they could,' and I am grateful for them, however they saw the limit in my progress. When Sister-Corps first visited me I was in a very dark space in my life, giving up hope for recovery after the devestation of Hurricane Ian... My home is my RV, and an old one at that, covered in mold inside and out. My Hippie Houseboat on Wheels wasn't winning any beauty awards nor any faith with any one... Sister-Corps never spoke of doom, nor never. All I heard was that they DO and CAN and they LOVE. And I began to smile a little. Sister-Corps lifted my life up physically and emotionally and kept on lifting and built a stable, practical, safe area for me to live while I repair my roof-- comfortably! They stayed longer than planned in order to get the job done. Away from their families, away from the comforts of their own homes, using their own vehicles, their own time, their own gas, other expenses... It goes on, and so did they- above and beyond what any thing could be asked of any person. Two months later and there's STILL tears of gratitude in my eyes as I write this testimony to the effectiveness and competency of Sister-Corps Call of Duty. If this were a plea for coworkers I'd be petitioning for a raise for each one of these Ladies.
The weather across the country has obviously changed, given way to more frequent, stronger, more devastating disasters. Please bare this in mind when considering your donation to this more than worthy team of volunteers who absolutely make a HUGE difference in those whose lives they touch- You can feel the power Sister-Corps holds

I have had the honor to work with this amazing group of women on a number of projects. Depending on the need of the family we might be laying flooring, installing sheetrock, tape and mud, removing debris or general cleanup of grounds. But we don't stop there we also support local women's shelters, food banks and blood drives. All volunteer expenses, food, lodging and travel are paid by the volunteers allowing every dollar donated to go toward materials need to perform our work.
