Review for Friends Of The Troops, Chattanooga, TN, USA
I joined Friends Of The Troops in November of 2020, and it changed my life, and in many ways has saved me.
My friend Missy and I went to a card signing event for Veterans and Service Members, and we joined Friends to send cards and letters all over the US and the world.
I am a disabled person with many health problems, and I quite honestly miss working. I have severe anxiety and depression because of the medical problems I have.
Joining Friends of the Troops has given me a purpose and a mission. To send as many cards and letters as I possibly can to Veterans and Service members. In the last three years, the amount of cards that are being sent out has increased considerably.
In 2023, Missy and I sent 144,820 cards and letters. Our goal to let the vets and service members know that they are honored, appreciated and cared about by complete strangers. We never expected to get letters back from Veterans and Service Members.
The very first letter I received from a Veteran that received a card from us in his final "mail call" packet during his honor flight trip brought me to tears, humbled me and whipped me into a frenzy to sent as many cards and letters as I possibly can.
Why you ask, well the veteran explained that he was a Vietnam Veteran, and for a very long time he regretted his service for many reasons. Some of which were, the horrors he encountered in Vietnam, wanting desperately to return home to safety and comfort, and when he finally made it home he was met with animosity, violence and loathing. He explained that the letters of gratitude he received in his final mail call packet finally restored his pride in his service to our country.
As you can imagine I cried for what that man had to go through, and it reinforced just how important it is to be part of such an amazing organization. Since that very first letter, I have received many more thank you letters, and each and every one humbles me.
I have made it my mission to touch the lives of as many Veterans and service members as I can to let them know they are appreciated. In adopting that mission, Friends of the Troops has given me a purpose, a goal to continue, and faith that there are people that honestly do appreciated gratitude.
I have gained many wonderful friends because of this organization. Many Veterans and service members that I continue to keep in contact with.
Friends of the troops saved me, by allowing me to spread gratitude, respect and support to service members and veterans.
