I never smoked and was a gymnast as a child and throughout high school, always exercised and was very healthy. At age 63, I had just retired, I developed a sharp pain in my left shoulder. I went to the Dr. had an MRI and a tumor was found in my rt lung!. I was diagnosed with Stage I Non Small lung cancer! I was horrified! I had to have my lung partially removed. It was painful and horrible.
After the surgery, it was found the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes, now Stage 3. I endured horrible chemo therapy that made me sick. lost 40 lbs and lost all my hair. I had Medicaid at the time, but once my husband started working again after being laid off as a computer contractor, my co-pays were huge as I needed frequent scans, and a targeted med to keep the cancer away.
We were soon was over $25,000in debt and afraid of losing everything! Thank goodness for my medical Case worker who told me about the PAN foundation. They've been helping me pay for my expensive targeted therapy and after several years of sacrifice and budgeting, were now doing better financially, I'm so grateful to the PAN foundation!! They're a lifesaver!
