Review for Angels of Hope - A Family Cancer Foundation, Shelby Township, MI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

In August 2021, I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma Stage 3. I had my kidney removed in November and then did 12 months of Keytruda (chemo and radiation do not work for my cancer). I worked until May 2022 - I had to stop working because of the side effects from the treatment I finished my last treatment in November 2022.

Janaury 2023 my 20 year old son was having problems with his knee. We had a MRI and it was misread as a fractured tibia. We were going to an orthopedic doctor up until May 2023 when we had a 2nd MRI and it was discovered that my son has Osteosarcoma - bone cancer. Nick started chemo right away and then had limb salvage surgery and started back at chemo again. I have still not gone back to work because my son doesn't drive. I have been at every appointment, test and chemo appt. When he gets his chemo, he is admitted in to the hospital for 3-5 days at a time.

We have been able to keep up with our bills with my husbands paycheck and our savings. Things were beginning to get more difficult. My son's cancer is a childhood cancer and we are being seen by a Pediatric Oncologist. This office has been very helpful giving us different resources to reach out to. One day the social worker was talking to me and suggested that we apply to Angels of Hope. I never heard of this organization and didn't really expect to get approved for assistance. Not only did we hear back right away - they were able to help us financially. I cried when I received the email stating that we were approved. These last two years have been very difficult for our family emotionally, mentally, physically and financially. Angels of Hope is a true blessing to our family.
