I became involved with the i-5 Freedom Network nine years ago when I discovered the work they were doing in our community to build awareness and support survivors of human trafficking. This is truly a unique nonprofit in their unwavering vision and commitment to their cause. Discovering that building a community is one of the most important ways survivors feel valued, supported and motivated, the i-5 has addressed this need specifically with a unique, survivor created and lead, program with an immense amount of support for all the concerns of a survivor: confidence building, speaking skills, affirmations, step-by-step self-care lessons and so much more. This course would benefit anyone but is geared specifically to the needs of someone who, through human trafficking, was denied the ability to build her/his own skills. They have also helped to create and push for laws to deter traffickers, trained hotel staff to recognize trafficking, and held fundraisers, meetings, and groups to spread the word. I will continue to support this dedicated and hardworking organization whenever I can.
