Review for Therapy Center Inc dba Challenge Center, La Mesa, CA, USA
I am a 71 year old male who had a stroke due to a brain aneurysm in March 2020. It affected my left side, limiting movement/use of my leg, arm and hand, rendering me to use a wheelchair as my primary and sole means of getting around. Challenge Center is the third physical therapy center I have attended since I ended in-home therapy after I returned home from my stroke in August 2020.
I have been attending Physical Therapy sessions at the Challenge Center since July 2022. One of the great advantages is that my wife, who is my home care giver, can closely observe my Challenge Center therapy sessions and get pointers on how to work with me at home where all the practice and application of the techniques I learn occurs.
Since attending the Challenge Center my assisted walking sessions have progressed from using a forearm crutch to using a hiking stick for balance support. At recent therapy sessions at the Challenge Center my assisted walking and drills with the therapists have eliminated the use of any balance pole or hiking stick during therapy.
The therapists provide a very positive and supportive environment empowering my mental process to visualize and work towards my desired end results. They help me take the steps to get back to my normal pre-stroke life style. I’ve learned to notice and embrace my achievements and how to use them to build foundations for further improvement. The therapists recently worked with me on techniques to get up and sit on a high bar stool from a standing position. So far, in everyday life away from therapy, I’ve achieved 7 successful transfers onto a high bar stool out of 7 attempts on the first try.
The Challenge Center physical therapists have been very cognitive of and attentive to my personal physical history and state of mind/attitude in implementing my therapy sessions. I feel that each exercise or drill has been planned and exercised with my particular needs and goals taken into consideration. As I look around at the other therapy stations, I can see this is the same for all the other people undergoing therapy too.
