Review for Helping Hearts Equine Rescue, Perrineville, NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

HELPING Hearts. Equine Rescue ( HHER) is a safe haven to equine in need.
They may have been neglected, abused, taken to an auction headed to slaughter or possibly their family can no longer safely care for them.
Upon arriving at HHER each rescue will receive excellent care, a clean straw lined stall with food, hay and water. They are examined by a veterinarian and given whatever medical attention is needed. They are in a special place away from the other residents for about two weeks until it is clear they are healthy and can join the other residents safely. Each new rescue immediately starts to learn they are safe, loved and will be cared for by gentle handling. Lisa, president of HHER is highly educated about equine and knows exactly what each one needs. She oversees the carve of each horse/donkey personally in the AM and evening after dinner to give each a bedtime treat and check they are ok. If she finds a resident to be sick,… they receive immediate medical attention. Weather permitting, all residents go outside each morning after breakfast to enjoy their day in one of the beautiful fields with buddies.
Volunteers graze, groom, bathe and shower all HHER equine with love and affection.
Lisa’s philosophy is for all rescues to live a happy carefree life retired at HHER. All they need to do is be a horse/ donkey and enjoy retirement. When it is made clear that one of the rescues is sick or in pain and cannot get better, they are carefully, painlessly euthanized while surrounded by their loving HHER family, I have been a volunteer at HHER for several years and have witnessed the excellent care, compassion and love given to each and every animal living there.
HHER is an EXCELLENT Top Notch. A+ Rescue.
Five Stars Plus.

My neighbor had a 40 plus year old horse named Sassy Lass. She adopted, loved and cared for Sassy since she was a year old. As my neighbor reached her 80’s she had some personal health issues. This caused her to worry about the quality of care she could continue to give Sassy Lass in the coming winter months. Some mornings Sassy was laying down and could not get up by herself. Friends and neighbors would help, but my neighbor knew Sassy needed more help then she could offer to continue living a healthy happy life.
Someone told her about Helping Hearts Equine Rescue( HHER).
My neighbor contacted Lisa, the owner of HHER and they made arrangements for Sassy Lass to move there. I had been very involved in Sassy’s daily life,… so I rode along when Sassy was trailered to HHER. We were both very emotional about delivering Sassy to a rescue, but knew it was in her best interest and we had heard wonderful things about HHER. Lisa greeted us and Sassy in the most friendly manner and made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. Sassy was welcomed and we all walked down to her new home which I later named Paradise‼️ We entered a gated area full of green grass, trees, sun, shade, fresh water and a welcoming large stall covered with fresh straw‼️ Sassy met her field mate, a pony named Candy and they were off to a great start.
We were told we were welcome to visit anytime. Sassy thrived at HHER for close to four healthy and happy years. She had special senior food, shelter, veterinary care, whatever she needed to stay well and love. Volunteers came and groomed her and showered her with love and attention as they did for ALL of the rescues at HHER. Sassy’s owner and I visited Sassy often to continue to share our love for her to continue to spoil her. We were always welcomed by the HHER staff and volunteers. Part of Lisa’s philosophy at HHER is that all animals enter her rescue should enter with one thing to do,… relax, retire and just be carefree‼️ Working days were over, time to chill in the field, graze, roll, be with buddies, get groomed, showered with love and enjoy life. Animals at HHER are to live out their life with no cares or worries. Once they are no longer healthy and the veterinarian examines them and explains they would start to suffer, they are humanely euthanized so they do not suffer. At this time, they are surrounded by those who love them and the animals feel safe. HHER offers excellent care and living conditions with the important addition of experience, knowledge and love. I would recommend HHER as an EXCELLENT RESCUE.

Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is an amazing rescue, a safe haven for equine to live in a caring and loving environment. I have been volunteering there for over 4 years and am constantly amazed witnessing countless acts of kindness and the top quality care given to the e rescued animals. HHER is owned and run by Lisa Post, an intelligent, experienced and knowledgable person who knows all that there is to offer about equine care. Her vision and mission at HHER is to take in equine that have been abused or neglected. HHER also welcome horses whose owner is no longer capable of taking proper care of them. HHER takes in equine of all ages but looks to help the seniors who may otherwise have a tragic ending. If a horse or donkey can be rehabilitated, it is possible arrangements may be made for them to be adopted out to a loving and responsible home. Most animals rescued stay in the safe care at HHER to enjoy the safety and love they constantly receive.

My personal experience at HHER started 4 years ago when my 80 + year neighbor became worried she could no longer take the best care of her 42 year old horse, Sassy Lass. Winter was coming and she had some health issues of her own and was worried about Sassy's care. Through a friend, she learned about HHER and contacted them. Arrangements were made and Sassy became a rescue at HHER. Her owner was welcome to visit Sassy any time she pleased. Since I had been helping with Sassy's care at home, so I was welcomed as well. We both visited Sassy often and were thrilled to see how happy she was, enjoying the company of other horses and excellent care. She actually flourished in her new environment! Sassy lived in what I call Paradise at HHER for 3 1/2 years enjoying her retirement. She passed on with no pain surrounded by people who love her after living an amazing life of 46 years. For the love of Sassy and animals I have now become a weekly volunteer at HHER so I know firsthand how it exceeds expectations.

When a horse is rescued into HHER, they are examined and evaluated by a veterinarian right away. Next the veterinarian and Lisa and set up an individual plan to ensure it will become healthy and happy. A new rescue is kept in detox away from the other animals area until all test results are back. This is done to protect all of the other animals at the rescue. Once all test results come back, and all is clear, the horse can join others and find friends.

Lisa's philosophy goes something like this. The horses she rescues have had a tough time or a long life of hard work. Now rescued all they should have to do is be a horse, relax and enjoy life in a safe and healthy atmosphere. They are turned out every morning to beautiful fields to enjoy the day with other horses or donkeys and come into their barn for dinner and the shelter of their clean stall prepared daily with fresh straw, food and water. Lisa conducts what she calls Night Check every evening where she visits each rescue and offers them each a treat. This way she can see each one and make sure they are ok for the night. If they do not want that treat, something could be wrong and the veterinarian is called. All rescues at HHER are respected and cared for with the utmost responsible and experienced hands by the staff who work hard to make sure the facility is kept clean and animals are safe. There are many volunteers who add their extra love and experience by grooming, bathing and spending time with all of the horses and donkeys. All of the rescues are given whatever is necessary so they may enjoy their well earned retirement. If and when a rescued animal becomes sick and cannot be cured or is suffering, plans are made for it to be euthanized painlessly while surrounded by those who love and care for them. HHER is an amazing rescue where many horses and donkeys have been taken in from bad situations and given a new chance in a home where they are safe, cared for and loved. It is an exceptional rescue!

I wish I had the technical skills to send you pictures, I have a million! Lisa is a technological wizard. You could ask her to send you pictures, I am sure she would be happy to do that.
